HeirofCarthage increased the number of men from 120 to 150 - makes it easier for pikes to push in one direction theres a variable in the mod files that essentially allow pikes to push more, make them more aggressive, i've made it so pikes do exactly that. pikes have a 2 bonus vs infantry, allowing them to kill a bit quicker, and finally pikes drop quicker and turn more, so there's a bit less derping around.
+WOLFTotalWar Sounds nice. Need to try it. I am still trying to get some time carved out to do a live event on this mod. I will work with you if I figure out a time.
I still enjoyed the battle! I love watching the "standard" factions instead of the same barbarians over and over again.Even though some things might be a bit broken.
12:33 According to Polybios, Philipp V. of Macedon and Hannibal did ally in 215BC. After the Romans' terrible defeat at Cannae one year earlier against Hannibal, Philipp V. contacted Hannibal since he wanted to occupy the southern Illyrian coast, held by Roman forts (which would from Philipps point of view make a good brigdehead for an invasion into the western territories of Macedon) after their conquests against the pirates there. Though Carthaginian and Macedonian troops never actually fought side by side, Philipp V. of Macedon and Hannibal did agree on fighting the romans in an coordinated effort, which gave the romans -of course- another good reason to go to war with the Macedonians after the successful 2nd Punic War.
If these guys are new the only explanation I can see that would make sense why the Macedonian was unresponsive to what was going on is because he was watching the fights close up.
hi heir, just wanted to say i really enjoyed this battle. it was really fun to watch and was very funny. i appreciate you posting replays of other players since i enjoy playing rome 2 but don't play it that often. thanks.
I played my first match online today. I played as Rome, my opponent as Macedon. I was feeling relatively confident for a first-timer. So, match starts and I discover that my opponent has Pike boxed. Being a noob at multiplayer, I had no idea how to beat this. I ended up winning (Quite decisively too) As I just sat back and destroyed a couple of his pike units with my skirmishes. Once that was done, I pinned his other pikes down and flooded through the gap, thus, destroying him.
+yip yip he has a specific email address, im not sure what it is heirofcarthage@totalwar or heirofcarthagetotalwar or something like that sorry not sure
Holy hell! Thank Zeus for BladeBalance which makes pikes somewhat effective, and aspis ridiculously good, really nice to see Macedon a competitive faction. This replay highlights how craptacular they are in vanilla. Alexander is probably rolling in his grave. ;) jk
im the paddiles guy yeah the game was un expected i though he would bring thorax swords and thessalins i actually had rome 2 since 2014 summer time i got 800 Hours but im more of a napoleon guy and shogun 2
+heir of Carthage when you played shogun 2 i decided to buy it. I bought it and installed it but when I tryed to run it, it keeps saying update adobe so i do that and the game starts then after it starts it sits at the waiting screen and that's it and I can't find anything about it help pls. Anyone or from heir.
+Mikawatobomba 001 I do not understand what you are asking... Himyar is on the Arabian Peninsula. If you are asking why you never see them, they are a playable faction in Atilla, not Rome.
+True Luiz totally agreed but be patient with heir he got a family,a work and so many other things to do . The prob is this:Too many people are sending their replays to heir and 80% of them are just newbie replays.
Heir, Carthage and Macedon actually became allies after Hannibal smashed the Romans several times in Italy. Though it wasn't of much effect because the Macedonians fucked up in the Balkans.
+Josh Lohner It's more harder to commentate and focus at the same time. He can also give advice or say what should have been differently more effectively because he doesn't need to focus on what he is doing.
Maybe if pikes were deployed in actual ranks? Like, historically, or like phalanxes in rome 1? Maybe they just need attack orders, i remember how Medieval II's pikes were considered useless because you had to use their Guard mode and give attack orders a specific way for them to work right.
+R3GARnator In Rome 1 pikes had 50% more men than normal units. If you go with deep formations in Rome 2 you are too easily outflanked. And even with attack orders they perform badly. They are just not viable as main killing force.
+Hannibal Barkas I think Blade Balance mod fixed them quite a bit. The pike got a substantial bonus vs infantry. I wonder when Heir is going to use that mod..
To the Iceni player: if you see elephants, focus your precursor fire and kill them quickly. Don't waste them on Carthaginian infantry, even if it's high quality infantry. To the Arevaci player: bring skirmishers to protect your army and just outmaneuver pikes to quickly get rid of them. There's no reason to engage them frontally. To the Carthaginian player: make Iceni waste all their javelins if at all possible before you bring in your elephants to harass their line from the rear. Kite away with your Numidians and clean up what's left of the Carthaginian cavalry with your melee cavalry. To Macedon: If you must bring Macedon, don't bring pikes. They're terrible. Otherwise, just choose a different faction. Macedon is very bad.
I really disagree with your opinion on the offensive capabilities of pikes. A block of pikes yes, but complemented with other units, you can very easily lure and trick enemies into offensive pike lines
+jamreal18 they have always been composed of spaghetti lines. even with penalties, the advantage of taking up much space with one unit is too strategic an advantage to let up. coming in to TW mp with any expectations more than a tiny bit of historical accuracy will leave you disappointed.
Lol, until you face someone who favors heavy cavalry backed up by melee. You can easily crush a spaghetti on the charge and then cut them down with any crap sword no matter if you're doing it on a legionary or a squishy infantry
Total War can be fun but I've found myself not playing it for a couple weeks now. I'm sure that when Warhammer comes out I'll be playing a lot of it again but it just doesn't have the same impact on me that it used to. Unless I'm high as fuck
1001themaster Got some great memories on Medieval 2 but I've essentially worn that game out more than any other. Online battles on Medieval 2 are unique
Phalangitai need more men in their units. I would seriously recommend using a mod like 256 phalanx or smth. The lines of them are too thin to be effective. And one should be able to use a phalanx offensively. But it shouldn't be overpowered cause a phalanx is more of a combined arms thing. Sad to see them so shitty in vanilla
I kind of think people are desperate to get online because they know they'll get shown by Heir even if they are kinda poor battles. With all of the new people in the game, I think Heir should be more conservative with who's replays he shows. Still enjoy the commentary though. Why do you not organise a battle with some good players, I know you're busy, so it need'nt be too often, but it would definitely add some diversity to the channel.
I can't organize matches because there is no real consistent day and time when I can record. Depends on day of the week, when my son goes to sleep, what housework needs done, ect. :) When I can I do live streams or something.
+HeirofCarthage got some nice replays of Diplomatts Flash tourney hosted today if you want i can send for example the 3rd place match to you if you want?
+HeirofCarthage Yeah, I appreciate that, just glad you manage to bring out some really great videos everyday. Not quite sure how you manage it, but keep it up if you can :D
Well, Arievaci can kill pikes, Iberian Swordsmen = Javelinmen + Crappy Swords, So pikes are not the be all end all (And now to unpause and watch the battle!)
"The Carthaginian player has elephants hidden in reserve... But the Iceni have Levy Freemen..." ~~ Competitive Total War in a sentence.
But levy freeman have precursor javelins.
You're underestimating cheap troops.
Yes, I know... I was joking about how underpaid levy freemen are, considering they can take out elephants quite easily.
But that would actually be humorous.
You're underestimating my reliance on cheap one-liners.
+Omar Omokhodion You win, gg. xD
Those bare hairy Levy Freemen chests drive Elephants crazy more than any jav throws could!
"It's kinda like a high school dance" Patchy deja vu right there? ;) ;) ayyyy
Kekekkkekek
+WOLFTotalWar Maybe if the Macedon player had Blade Balance mod he would have actually crushed Arevacii?
What is it your mod did to pikes? I would think buffing their stats while in phalanx might do it.
HeirofCarthage increased the number of men from 120 to 150 - makes it easier for pikes to push in one direction
theres a variable in the mod files that essentially allow pikes to push more, make them more aggressive, i've made it so pikes do exactly that.

Possibly :)
when you are new you just want to watch the fights close up because it is interesting lol
+Deathcap Rabadon (Deathcap9087) I think he just needed to poo and told his dog to take over.
Sometimes I think I am bad at Rome 2. Then I see players like this
Same
Love the replays! Keep them coming!
I never thought I would hear such a great analogy from heir between a total war game and middle school dances :)
hi heir, just wanted to say i really enjoyed this battle. it was really fun to watch and was very funny. i appreciate you posting replays of other players since i enjoy playing rome 2 but don't play it that often. thanks.
Hey heir i got a little request for ya: could you bring more... competetive games because i got kinda tired to see so many newbie replays :(
he's not that kind of channel
Watch maximus or blademaster for that
+Bobi Tw Heir show more of blade's replays
+crazymonkey19071907 people get mad if he show blade's replays.People just have to stop sending a crap load of newbie replays.
+Bobi Tw Competetive games get kinda repetitive
Heir, how do I share replays? I had a really good battle with Rome v. Carthage, it came down to the wire.
nice game keep up the good work
Damn, the worst display of TW I have ever seen.
+CatnamedMittens “Michael Bialas” Heir show more of Blade's or Maximus's replays! There're always entertaining to watch
+CatnamedMittens “Michael Bialas” ITS KYUBEY HE WANTS OUR SOULS. 人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
Does pike phalanx tire in Rome II?
It should.
Sarissa are heavy.
How do you turn the red, blue, and green lines on. I accidentally turned them off or something and don't know how to turn them back on.
nice battle, thanks heir!

Can u make a vid on how to use pikes effectively In a battle
Where do you guys send these replays to? I have some good replays (not newbie)
+yip yip at he's email
you mean sending him a message on youtube or a specific email adress?
+yip yip he has a specific email address, im not sure what it is
heirofcarthage@totalwar or heirofcarthagetotalwar or something like that sorry not sure
Did the players all drop halfway through? Because it sure looks like the AI playing towards the end, Rome 2 launch AI no less.
+luis padilla Were you the same one in the last replay.
+JEM GamingHD yeah thought this is my first time playing in a long time
+heir of Carthage when you played shogun 2 i decided to buy it. I bought it and installed it but when I tryed to run it, it keeps saying update adobe so i do that and the game starts then after it starts it sits at the waiting screen and that's it and I can't find anything about it help pls. Did you try turning on and off the computer?
+Seto Kaiba yes I did, as well as a refund from steam.
I cannot actually believe what I am seeing. Hahahahah. The mistakes ...THE MISTAKES!
By Jupiter this is PAINful... xD
Heir, where is Himyar?!
where is it huh?
+Mikawatobomba 001 I do not understand what you are asking...
Himyar is on the Arabian Peninsula. If you are asking why you never see them, they are a playable faction in Atilla, not Rome.
hey heir how do we send replays in to you?
YOUR. REPLAYS. PLEASE.
***** Are you telling me you actually enjoyed this replay? Pikes depin' Carthage going kapoot, elephants just predictable. Nope. Not Satisfied
+Sarangerel ??????? I understand that but he is casting only newbie replays and i am forced to watch Blade's vids altho i love heir's cast the most.
+Bobi Tw wow m8 u forced to watch me i h8 u
***** Check TW:R2 OL:310. That Derpy Roman. It isn't worthy to be posted on Heir's channel
Can we send replays? :O
heir, will u do live battles, i prfer those
+Josh Lohner It's more harder to commentate and focus at the same time. He can also give advice or say what should have been differently more effectively because he doesn't need to focus on what he is doing.
Hi Heir, how do I send you a replay?
(it's a mid-to-high level replay that came down to 2 units with non-meta factions)
Maybe if pikes were deployed in actual ranks? Like, historically, or like phalanxes in rome 1? Maybe they just need attack orders, i remember how Medieval II's pikes were considered useless because you had to use their Guard mode and give attack orders a specific way for them to work right.

+Hannibal Barkas I think Blade Balance mod fixed them quite a bit. The pike got a substantial bonus vs infantry. I wonder when Heir is going to use that mod..
What I noticed was a lot of hurry up and wait to get missiled and outflanked to death
This was such a strange battle
To the Iceni player: if you see elephants, focus your precursor fire and kill them quickly. Don't waste them on Carthaginian infantry, even if it's high quality infantry. To the Arevaci player: bring skirmishers to protect your army and just outmaneuver pikes to quickly get rid of them. There's no reason to engage them frontally. funny battle
nice

Ok crazy
dang you put up a vid at 11:00
lol aww macedon what happened too much blobbing ^_^
Entertaining to watch, even its "low skill total war".
Carthage could have full title wreched the Iceni if he had been just a little more patient fuck that woulda been great.
how can i battle u heir
all mp battles now are composed of spaghetti lines because it has no penalty...
+jamreal18 they have always been composed of spaghetti lines. even with penalties, the advantage of taking up much space with one unit is too strategic an advantage to let up. coming in to TW mp with any expectations more than a tiny bit of historical accuracy will leave you disappointed.
+WOLFTotalWar Rarely see spaghetti in Med 2
Lol, until you face someone who favors heavy cavalry backed up by melee. You can easily crush a spaghetti on the charge and then cut them down with any crap sword no matter if you're doing it on a legionary or a squishy infantry
Heir. History. Macedon and Carthage were allied versus Rome in the second punic war.
Total War can be fun but I've found myself not playing it for a couple weeks now. I'm sure that when Warhammer comes out I'll be playing a lot of it again but it just doesn't have the same impact on me that it used to. Unless I'm high as fuck
Player populations are real low. It is making it difficult to get matches.
+The Joker I can sympathize. Have you tried Medieval 2, Shogun 2 recently?
+1001themaster I need to jump on those 2 again. Love online play on both.
1001themaster Got some great memories on Medieval 2 but I've essentially worn that game out more than any other. Online battles on Medieval 2 are unique

Well, Arievaci can kill pikes, Iberian Swordsmen = Javelinmen + Crappy Swords, So pikes are not the be all end all (And now to unpause and watch the battle!)
Can you make sure to review the replays you post, these low level games just aren't fun to watch.
if your bronze don't flex it ain't Adidas
The players in this game are absolutely horrible. Some of the worst play I've ever seen!
Can you do a video on how to use pikes in battle
