I really like this style of review! Gives an individual time to collect their thoughts and more acutely communicate the experience! Nice job on vids looks top notch! I’m sure you spent hours preparing and it shows!
I just bought a 2022 indian scout. Speechless on the amazing performance and style. I get more compliments on my bike then my friends bike and all my friends have Harley Davidson.
My dream bike is the 2023 FTR Rally. I live 10 minutes from my office and its mostly all backroads, definitely a commuter bike for me. And some cruising around Blue Ridge and the Great Smokies on the weekends. Hoo-Rah Baby!
This video has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me... Me at 1:07 - "Hey, my bike is just fine. It's fun and gets me around without any issues, no need to upgrade." Me at 16:06 - "I need this..." Me at 19:29 - "Holy smokes, that costs more than my car and my wife would sooner murder me for the insurance money and simply divorce me..." Love the video, keep up the great work Dan!
I love the educational content embedded into a motorcycle review video. Good job Dan! Very unique format. I would not say those big bikes are necessarily beginner bikes but are very beginner friendly these days. When I got my KTM 790 ADV with all those electronic rider aides, coming from a bike with half the horse power, rain mode mode it amazingly simple until I got used to the new bike's controls and increased horse power. I can not imagine getting another bike without cornering ABS and all the other safety features, despite the price tag.
I had my eye on the FTR in 2019 and held off because I felt like it needed that level of refinement mentioned, and I'm glad they lightened the bike up a bit and made the tweaks they have thus far. I think this will be my next street bike after I've finished riding my XSR900 into the dirt.
great review, you covered everything I wanted to hear about, the carbon for me, the lower seat height is a blessing for me, increased tyre choice is a really good thing, thankyou
Bought a new leftover 22 FTRs and couldn’t be happier. The suspension settings is critical to longer ride comfort. Prior to even checking where my settings were set from the factory/dealer it rode pretty good but I would start having some pain at around a constant hour of riding. Figured it was going to be a seat for the fix. Had a ride planned that should have been around 200miles coming up so I decided to go ahead and see where clickers and pre- loads were set. All were off some and the forks were actually pretty far off. After putting everything to factory settings… the ride became fantastic…. No seat replacement needed. The rear pre-load is very sensitive… a little goes a long way. Our 200mile trip turned into a 400mile day trip ride. I still cant get over the difference it made🤙🇺🇸 Still tweaking the settings a touch here and there as it gets broken in (740miles so far)😋
Almost on edge, for Carbon 2024 with Ohlins. Saw bike in person for first time. Been used to BWM electronic suspension and rider space to move or stand up on long rides. Just wondering if 400-500 miles ride possible with pro taper higher bars, a windshield, softer setting for suspension and wider rubber rider pegs....
I definitely prefer your previous review style i.e. on the bike and in the moment. Having said that it is great to hear such an in depth review of your ride, thanks Dan. So cool to see you and Block together on Blockhead's channel!
If someone puts you up in a hotel and feeds you, it's only natural if not expected to give a good review .... That being said, your reviews in general are good and fair, plus your peers seem to respect you.
Good sir, I watched this review multiple times. Thank you for doing a walk through ride. I have an Indian Scout Sixty, will trade it for the FTR. Fingers crossed.
I own a 2022 FTR R Carbon and just Love it. Am 6’ 2”, 235 lbs, seat could be a little more comfortable and a bigger gas tank. With my height, I can be totally seating and both my feet totally touching ground. Colors and sound just Love them as well as the digital display. Never been able to use the Indian ride command with my helmet, just gave up on it. Now I just connect directly from phone 📱 to helmet ⛑️. Great acceleration, brakes and exhaust. It’s a Gorgeous bike all around!
As a new rider In Australia (Queensland) we have to ride LAMS approved bikes for 2 years before we can upgrade to any bike over 600cc. I certainly want to upgrade to this bike from my Kawasaki Z400.
I love the changes, but I still think it needs a diet, about 20 more horsepower, and an optional quick shifter. It would really help it for the price point it’s in and the bikes it competes with.
It is so fun when you feel you can lean more and then on your second pass on that curve you can achieve it. In the end, practice, practice, and practice. We have to challenge ourselves, stay comfortable still and yet get a little out of the comfort zone to gain experience. I feel we need to adopt the HHGTG mindset and "Don't Panic" - use the skills and adapt. Love you channel and watch all the time to maybe pick up a situational awareness. Motor on Dude. :)
I gotta say... I thought I would swap my 2009 Yamaha FZ6 for a Triumph Street Triple RS in a few years... But the new FTR Carbon is calling me out ssssooooooo I’ll have to go check it out, because it looks awesome and you all talk great about it
I'LL BUY YOUR 2019!!! hi dan, moto newbie here. got my endorsement in december 2020. i dont' have my own bike but i've rented a few (R3, Sportster 883). a few weeks ago i went to an INDIAN demo day and tried the FTR (i'm guessing the 2019 version). i figured if it was too much for me i'll stop before i leave the parking lot or pull over. but i ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I dont know that i would recommend it for all beginners, but if you respect the bike and respect your limits, it is AMAZING. thanks for the review. definitely looking at the FTR for my own.
I like the look and seat height of the 2019 model (I’m 6’2”). I have 2 bikes with 19 inch front tires and I like the semi-custom look of a 19”front tire. It takes a bit away from handling capabilities but I’m not racing on the street anyway. I like that the taller tire is better for potholes and bumps.
Good review DDTF. I'm hanging on to my '20 Rally for a while longer, but am really happy that Indian is investing in the FTR future. It really is a great motorcycle (even with the cold start issues I have). Also, it is an American motorcycle and that is another reason I'm excited about owning an FTR. Where I live (Northwest Arkansas) the nearest Ducati/Triump/BMW dealerships are over 100 miles away. I have an Indian dealer 15 miles from where I live and that is also an important factor in buying a motorcycle for me.
Happy to see the refinement. On the earlier models, I preferred the simple dash instrumentation and blackout look on the base model but was disappointed that the suspension wasn't adjustable (in the just the back I think). I'll definitely give it another look even though it's a tick or two above my preferred spending price. Loved the review Dan and love that Indian invited some of my favorite content creators and maybe introduce me to a few more. Cheers. PS really like that luggage rack/ top case config.
Thanks! I completely agree with the refinement area. The luggage rack was a blessing. First time really having one, and now I know why people love them.
@@DanDanTheFireman Morning Dan. I'm watching Blockhead's video and see you were carting some of his camera gear. He expressed both admiration of the luggage capacity on your bike and grateful for your sharing the space. Good stuff. I so love seeing these events.
I just came around this very nice review and I fully agree with your critics on the 2019 models, especially the head dissipation. That is something I noticed also on a test ride I made about 2 years ago. It is good to hear that Indian worked on that and improved it. Anyhow, one thing I still do not like is the too small gas tank size of only 13 liters or about 3 gallons. In my opinion for a motorbike like this not enough for long cruises, meaning to stopp for gas about every 200km or 120 miles.
I like the look of my 2019 a lot more but I am 5'6 so the slightly shorter bike would probably fit me a bit better when in those awkward stops and such and as much as I love the look of the dirt track tires I think that street tires seem to be the better option in terms of ridability on the street.
@@FlyingAAuto have you seen the discount code on the Indian website “ftr50”? 50 percent off some accessories. And there are some limited offer deals that the code works with. I bought the rsd pegs and shift and brake levers. The high mount exhaust kit is on a limited deal for $750 then the code brought it down to $375. Got that too.
@@FlyingAAuto forgot to mention this is assuming you are in USA. And there were some stuff online that didn’t qualify that I went and got at the dealer that they let it go through. Probably dealer dependent but who knows.
DANDANTHEFIREMAN any chance you bought the top case? If so how to you like it? Are you willing to do review on it or give some better video of it? There is nothing online that I can find but this video and I freeze framed it @5:03 mark but trying to get better eval of its capacity beyond basic specs from Indian. No dealer in-surrounding 3 states carries them nor will order it unless I buy it and will charge restock fee of $35 if doesn't fit my needs which isn't worth it to be out $. I have Triumph Scrambler 1200 with similar FTR luggage rack but mine is made byUnit Garage 3104 Triumph Rear Rack. So fitment would be big concern. Also wondering if it can fit helmet? If it expands? If water resistant? Quality of case? Etc. For nearly $300 there are to many unknowns to waste the money if doesn't fit my needs other than I like the look. Thanks bro!
Just for the record, both your bike and the 2022 look pretty damn good. I'm glad you made this video. Im really starting to like these naked bikes. You should do a review on the New 2022 Speed Triple. That would be a sexy bike to test too.
Super fun bike - Tried it out at Bair’s Motorsports event/shop along with the Springfield (Old school V bar), both the Vintage and Chief Dark Horse felt great for a Sportster 1250 rider!
I put all my bikes in an excel sheet and compared the specs. This came 7th consider torque to weight and HP to weight. I also test rode it and it was good but didn't blow my socks off. The super duke came first, my 07 zx10r, R1200R, R9T, and speed twin 1200
I feel like Indian is the American motorcycle company Harley should be. Their product line management and figuring out what younger riders are actually excited about is far superior. You have the classic styles of the bikes of the past but with the power and electronics to lay down with any modern street bike from other manufacturers. IMO, Indian used to be “that other American motorcycle”, but now it rightfully has a place of its own as a stand out brand. Whatever they’re doing over at Indian, I hope they don’t stop anytime soon.
Hay mate Paul from Australia 🇦🇺, I’m glad the heat thing has been sorted as it can get quite hot 🥵 in Aussie in Summer. The only two issues I have with the Indian FTR the 19 and new 22 is 1. Small fuel ⛽️ range ( it’s such a shame they didn’t address this on the bike ) I had the same issue when I had a Ducati Scrambler 800 it only had about a 220km ( 110 mile ) Range . and 2. The limit of storage capacity on the bike for touring, with the left side being high pipes ! I know this adds to looks etc but a low pipe would give you the option of panniers both sides ( again my Ducati Scrambler had the same issue) I LOVE ❤️ the look 👀 of the bike but unfortunately for me so impracticable.
Hey, thanks for all your content and this review, which by the way is really well done ! I have an opportunity to get a brand new FTR S Race Replica (19' version manufactured last year) for the 2000 less than the new 22' FTRS : do you think all the changes are worth that amount ? I am tall so the 19' seat height is not an issue at all, but I am a bit worried about the cold strat isssue (I live in the French mountains and late autumn / early spring can still be fresh) and the heat coming from the engine without the cylinder deactivation.
Hi Dan, hello from México, nice Video, I want a FTR since 2 years, i Can Buy the 19 Race réplica for 1k less than FTR S 2022, do you think Is a good choice? Or the 2022 Is really a better Bike, thanks
I've ridden for a year and I said that I was going to keep my bike for at least 3 seasons, but you're really making me want to buy one of these. These updates started on the 2021 model, correct? Or is 2022 the first year for them?
the FTR is a cool bike they got it right something that about it that catches your interest I've never rode one because if I did I would want I already have more bikes then I can give attention to I love my MT-10 it maybe a basic bike but easy to ride and alot of fun
You mentioned the the front and rear tires are seventeen inches on the 2022 Indian FTR 1200 S, but you did not mention the width of the tires. What is the front and rear tires width? They appear to be more narrow on the front compared to the rear.
2022 FTR or Triumph street triple or z900... decisions ,decisions... wife says one last bike... Kawasaki is talking bout a supercharged Vulcan?? I can only ride one... maybe a Yamaha XSR... I need to stop watching RUclips and trade my bike in already..... want them all for like a month a piece
DDTF I love this bike. I'm in Australia and am currently on my Probationary Licence which limits the power a motorcycle you can have for your first 3 years of riding. It's called LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme). Once I'm off my "P" plates I intend to purchase one of these. My question to you is will it suit someone at 6'3" in height?

All my bikes have rider aids. I have raced professionally flat track and motorcross and I still want that added protection.
The added protection is called mad skillz, not as in the slogan "much helps much."

preordered a 2022 FTR Carbon !! so stoked
The only American bike I want to test ride. I’m on your mailing list Indian, let’s talk!!!
I love the changes, but I still think it needs a diet, about 20 more horsepower, and an optional quick shifter. It would really help it for the price point it’s in and the bikes it competes with.
A quick shifter would be amazing!

1. Small fuel ⛽️ range ( it’s such a shame they didn’t address this on the bike ) I had the same issue when I had a Ducati Scrambler 800 it only had about a 220km ( 110 mile ) Range . and
2. The limit of storage capacity on the bike for touring, with the left side being high pipes ! I know this adds to looks etc but a low pipe would give you the option of panniers both sides ( again my Ducati Scrambler had the same issue)
I LOVE ❤️ the look 👀 of the bike but unfortunately for me so impracticable.
Oh shit the embargo is up!! Just watched Chaseonwheels video. This is my dream bike!
Hi! What kind of windscreen do you have installed here on the FTR?
OMG - This!! This might be the one!
I love that they didn't do it every year. It takes a couple of years for anything to get a proper upgrade.
Isn't the bridge at 7:38 in GTA 5 lol
Straight fire
The top case, take a look at the Apache cases at Harbor freight. They are weather proof and short money.
I really can’t figure out if I want one of these or a speed twin
Stability control and cornering ABS and cornering ABS standard. Harley it is an option RDRS
Hey, wait a sec... at 20:15, did we just get an uncensored shot of BlockHead???
Tucson bro I use to live there haha.. hit up guero canelos or eegees :3
Love that bike...i want one
I've ridden for a year and I said that I was going to keep my bike for at least 3 seasons, but you're really making me want to buy one of these.
These updates started on the 2021 model, correct? Or is 2022 the first year for them?
the FTR is a cool bike they got it right something that about it that catches your interest I've never rode one because if I did I would want I already have more bikes then I can give attention to I love my MT-10 it maybe a basic bike but easy to ride and alot of fun
They said they made the rake a little steeper for maneuverability. But did they change it on the rally version to?
You mentioned the the front and rear tires are seventeen inches on the 2022 Indian FTR 1200 S, but you did not mention the width of the tires. What is the front and rear tires width? They appear to be more narrow on the front compared to the rear.
I subbed the moment he said that's what she said
that's a nice looking bike. maybe one day I can buy one
Hard tyres 🤦 you want the softest, stickiest for this bike! I want one 🤩💕
Here's a question when you buy a used motorcycle is it best to change oil and chain as well as sprocket?
I want this bike! Now all I need is money. ❤️👌
Is it possible to put 17 inch rims on the 2019?
Hey Dan what do you think about throwing some knobby tires on there in order to access the dirt roads too? Turn it into a little scrambler.
They have a rally version that comes with those so I can't imagine why not.
Speed does kill. FTR is not a beginner bike. Gets up to triple digits too fast. Great looking bike
Lower seat hight, sounds really nice. Really hate to drive bikes made for tall guys. :)
Were you able to notice any difference in the fuel range on the 2022? Would you be able to get 100+ per tank?
Sport bikes and nakeds offers 17 inch front/back. More tire selection with 17’s
What's your asking for '19?
How tall are you Dan ?
How did that windshield work for you ? I’ve tried 3 different ones and now I just run without one
Looks like a pretty nice bike. Do you think it would be good for a tour all the way arounf the USA?
I believe it would be a great touring bike with the necessary luggage and comfort options
I do not think it is good for touring. It is nice fun bike, but not for long trips.
It's not gonna be all that great of a tour. A small gas tank and 32 mpg at 1200cc make it quite the gas guzler.
@@Conundrummy thats my main worry for any bike that i might choose. The fuel will be my biggest expense so if possible I'd wanna keep it low as poss 😂
