  • Mitchie from SkateIQ reviewed one of my attempts at doing an ollie. One of the things he told me to test was to turn my back shoulder forward. After that I have tried to do the same for skating in general and wow, it has improved my skating! It's an instant improvement of balance, but also my confident since it allows me to better see where I'm going! Amazing!
Turning the back shoulder probably also turns the hips and but quite a bit, and that's probably one explanation for the instant improvement in balance. It probably puts more of the hips and butt over the board instead of "behind the board" (heelside). It probably also puts more of the hips and butt (and weight) towards the tail, which will make it easier to roll / pump up transitions, etc.
