Now, 20 seconds wouldn’t be the end of the world if they had just caught it and videoed then put it back in the water but when the fish’s skin isn’t shiny then it’s been out for way too long. Whenever I go fishing, I only take the fish out long enough to get a picture if it’s a good one, carefully unhook it, and then I put it back in the water which generally only takes 10-20 seconds and the fish’s skin never becomes dry like in the video. I also dunk the fish in a bucket of water to let it breathe and keep its skin dry while I remove the hook.

People in the comments hace clearly never handled a fish in their lives, fish can go quite a while outside of the water without much issue as long as he doesn't dry. This fish is completely fine, probably stressed from being handled but he isn't about to suffocate, he can "hold his breath" way longer than you.
It's not nice to stress the fish out like this, but as long as the fish was returned to the water it's fine, and it's a cool showcase of remoras sticking to stuff. Unless they did something to REALLY stress the fish out, it'd be fine. It's like taking a pufferfish out to see it puff. Maybe it'll stress the fish out for a bit, but it'll be completely fine once it returns to the water. I can see the concern from the comments, but the fish was never really in any danger of dying here.
doesn't touching fish strip them of a layer on their skin that keeps them safe from bacteria? pretty sure there have been studies on released fish survivability plummeting due to people touching them

I wish people knew that fish live significantly longer out of water than we do underwater💀
What lol
I read depending on species, minutes, hours or months. If this one is a Minute species, then he is pretty endangered, depending on how long he was out.
Regardless of whether it will live I doubt the fish wants to be there. Leave wildlife alone.
😂😂
@@Jak-it I'm saying that fish synthesize oxygen in a different way than humans and they can be out of water much longer than humans can underwater. there is a species of fish that can live out of water for two months or more. A few seconds of it stuck to this guy's face isn't gonna hurt or kill it. I'm not saying it's not uncomfortable for the fish or anything but it's gonna be fine.

@@duggeeo4147 they can die at any point out of the water like how any of us can drown in the 30 second to 2 minute time frame.

Finally a good insult in this comment section

It’s something called mutualism. That’s why they latch onto larger animals in the sea. the larger animal gets cleaned of parasites and the fish gets to eat
“Symbiosis” is the actual term. They have a “symbiotic relationship”. Shark gets parasites removed/cleaning. Remora gets food and protection.
@@justincunningham4217 both terms are correct btw
@@justincunningham4217 nah it isn‘t. It’s only called symbiosis if the two organisms can‘t live without each other. At least in german. So mutualism is right
