- Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is not a perfect game, and it's not the most mechanically dense game, but thankfully, it doesn't have to be. Its strengths lie in its unhinged, over-the-top on-pitch action and its delightfully silly presentation.
If you're looking for a football game that lets you focus on all the fun aspects of the sport while ignoring almost everything to do with tactics and strategy, this is the game for you.

eFootball PES is the GOAT.
After watching a review by globku then watching this you can clearly see the difference between someone's whos actually delved deep into the game enough to give it a proper review. Every 5 seconds the reviewer is saying silly or wonky this is an ANIME football game im confused about what the reviewer thinks or expects

Saying the game is superficial when its clearly a easy to play, hard to master - you have loads of skills you can add to your players, and all of them have active or passive abilites, not to mention that online you really have to play into your opponents mind in order to bypass them, the game has depth, but it seems this reviewr only played a little of the tsubasa episode for newbies and thats it. Nowadays credible reviewers are hard to find and luckly Globku did a far better job explaining everything the game has to offer, and believe me, its alot. Bandai did a good job. its not a 10/10 game, but its well crafted and the grind is there for those who seek it - far better than any Fifa in recent years LOL thats for sure.

@@mariojgcampos well said. I've only been playing for almost 2 non stop days and find this game to be a fast to pick up and play but super deep and hard to master game. Heck even when I'm getting handed in story mode I'm still having a blast and realizing that I need to learn some of the skills more.

Sloppy review! Criticizing the story telling of the game is like criticizing Batman games on the ridiculous gadgets and unrealistic skillsets that Batman has! The game is an adaptation of the Manga/Anime series and that style of story telling is in its fabric. Comparing this game with fifa or pes is the worst bias that a reviewer can get trapped in. Also, this review does not even mention the online and versus match experience and the subtle reward system that is embedded in it to improve your team...
"ignoring tactics and startegy" meanwhile you need to carefully choose the players' passives and organize the tactics formations to get the best out of your specific team online lol

This man uses the words clumsy and silly without knowing what they actually mean, he does not know what he’s talking about, BAD REVIEW and the game is amazing and so much fun and faithful to the source material

@PipeRhymes It's really fun especially when you've learned how to properly dribble and use special shots. My brother who has not watched the anime and does not even care about football is completely loving the game. I think it all boils down to how you treat the game. It's getting low reviews because people are comparing it to football similation like FIFA and PES which should not be the case.
Never heard of the series. I just found this game demo. I am blown away! I’m a sports game fanatic. Haven’t found a worthy game to play since ncaa 14. This is absolutely amazing.
americans missed out on amazing anime show, in the early 90s in colombia, it was all the rage, i learned how to draw anime style because of the show.

Same. I find real football incredibly boring, so to have a simplified version with overthetop anime action that says "screw the rules, just KICK that fucking thing!!", is a blessing.

The best part is the game doesn't have microtransactions. You play the game, unlock new cool stuff, players, moves, and more. I think is awesome. The music is dramatic, the gameplay is okay. THIS is what I wish for FIFA, build my dream team, with my self in the game plus connect to the players, and don't spend a single diamond.
I loved watching this series as a kid in Argentina. One of my all time favorites! Captain Tsubasa games have always been more about the story than the gameplay itself... I’d dare to say they’re 70% visual novel/RPG, 30% football/soccer. So yeah, don’t expect fancy passing or great AI when running with the ball... it’s not FIFA, much less PES.
As far as the rivals being douchebags and then turning around and becoming friends with the main characters, that’s what it was like in the actual anime, so again, it is what it is.
The demo i played was more enjoyable than any American sports game i have played since NCAA 14. Can’t wait to pick this up.

What the hell, a game like this exists? Sign me up. Been a fan of the anime since I've been a teenager and as a huge football fan I've actually gotten tired of the simulation-esque games for quite a while now. Don't care if this is not a game of the year contender, seems like it's totally going to be my jam.^^

I finished the Tsubasa story and I´m half way through the New Hero journey. So far the game is amazing, not perfect, but so far one of the best Tsubasa games (CT2 for the NES and Dream Team for Android are in that spot as well IMO). If you are a fan, you need to play this game, its pure nostalgia and fun (and difficult, very difficult sometimes).
The game is on sale this week if you're PS Plus subscriber, and I think it'll be my gateway into the series :-)
It surprises me the amount of gaming journalists that apparently have never heard of Captain Tsubasa...

@@PsychoMagnet people mentioning the manga... Captain Tsubasa is not known internationally because of the manga... it's the anime. Back in the days manga was kind of a black market commodity XD... but we all got the Monday to Friday 3:00 pm anime block (or similar)... it's a shame US and other "main" markets were not exposed to all of this earlier.
@@KravenVanDrakken I'm English myself but recently got into the series and I love it. I'm on the World Youth arc rn. It never aired in the US, England, etc so all these guys don't know about the series and just call this game 'anime soccer' as if the anime adaptions don't exist.
@@PsychoMagnet yeah, it's painful to find out that a lot of people never got to grow up with great anime like Captain Tsubasa, Saint Seiya, Dragon League... etc until later on. There are people, not young ones, like 30 some, that only learned about Evangelion because of Netflix... Macross... Cowboy Bebop...
Not sure about how other people feel about it, but anime is not like cartoons that are silly fun, anime (and manga as it's usual source) explore real life issues and moral dilemas on everyday life escenarios and make it cool... not been exposed to any of those things kind of makes me understand how a lot of us that were exposed to the content have a different understanding of things than those who were only exposed to super mild forms of entertainment.

2K should seriously make an NFL game this way. They have the NFL license for a “non sim” game. This would be amazing to rebuild an nfl team with more arcade gameplay and amazing storyline.

I played this game on stream. A friend of mine who loves playing Fifa games? His exact words were "Much better than FIFA".

Honestly I played fifa and this is way better than fifa. This review didn't do it justice.
While there's definetely room for a new, over the top, crazy footbal arcade game, this one has too poor actual football to be it.

I love the idea of this solely from watching "The Hurricanes" as a kid.
I feel that the score given to Tsubasa is a fair one but the review was poorly done, it feels more like someone just picked up the game and played for a bit to write a review for.
The game does a good job of easing you into it's game mechanics as the story mode continues. You can even change up your team placement and that can make a huge difference.
Everyone is getting salty that he doesn't like the game. Anime fans are so sensitive

As long as the game is consistent and allows the better player to win fair and square I’m happy. Unlike other supposed Triple A titles cough.. cough... fifa... cough.. that allows unfamiliar unskilled players to beat players that are far more knowledgeable, skilled and experienced (dynamic difficulty adjustment.....). Experienced fifa players know this all too well.
The movements remind me of the old school international super star soccer games.
Question, can we level up players in this game? In the old days, I could level up a crappy goalie to block every super shots. Kind of miss that.

It's a good fun and nostalgic game for me. But its 1) way too short 2) it needed to have the option to blow keepers out with super shots and/or smash the net to smitherins just like the manga/anime.
They expanded it big time if you havent played in awhile

Ive never wanted to play a soccer game so bad. None of the negatives you mentioned are actually not even bad.
I god this game 3 days ago after waiting 3 weeks for the late shipment. Point is...its worth the wait. I've played all naruto.u.n.s, dragonballz, borderlands, botw, dragons dogma, persona5 and skyrim just to name a few off the top of my head. Captain tsubasa although really cheezy is super action based without all the fouls and the fake falls. It has its problems but ultimately I'm hooked. I'm already thinking about making another new character to play fw and one for df. And not to mention they have branching story with branching. My gameplay is gonna be different than yours. So a whole bunch of replayability. I was a sceptic laughing it off as a shell of a game. But like breath of the wild I'm glad I picked this up. It's nice not to have to kill anything for a while.

Sorry but this is one horrible review. The game is based on the original manga/anime, and there is a lot more besides "playing football" . I can understand the reviewer may not be a fan of the series but please do some homework before "reviewing". 🤦♂️

doesnt seem as complex as the first Tsubasa game i played as a child on my NES. I had to learn Japanese as I go. I did not know English or Japanese, so I had to make my own wording as the game progressed. I am reading now, up to 15 hours of gameplay and since I couldnt save.... I could never go further than 5 hours I believe. But it was a great experience! At the time I love football, but not RPGs because they were all Japanese and I was confused. This one changed all that and I still consider it a solid RPG, football game.
I am considering getting this one too solely based on nostalgia, but it seems way too anime and it doesnt seem to have any RPG elements. I dunno...

This is the worst review. Its like reviewing pokemon and not mentioning the core mechanic of explaining the roles of abilities and evolutions 🤣. Btw u don't need to hit x to skip. Just press options and skip cutscene. Didn't even bother to figure that out. He didn't even mention cards, abilities, combos, skills, team edit. Piss poor review. No effort at all.
