I have a handful of crazy IBCT stories but I'll give you one for now: We had in a guy in our platoon that was 1 of 2 recyclees from a previous training cycle. This particular guy recycled due to "failure to adapt" and was looking at a potential Chapter 13, (? I think that's right. I always get that and bankruptcy mixed up 😂) which is when they kick you out of the military for failure to complete training, whether that be not being able to pass a PT test the entire time, not passing other pass/fail events, or refusal of orders and directives - which is in line with this guy I'm referring to. Dude just couldn't be broken no matter what the DSs threw at him and continued to refuse to do anything asked of him. It got to the point where the DSs basically just ignored him and held him aside at every training event so he couldn't mess it up for the entire platoon anymore (yeah, he f*ed us a couple of times with his bs). One day the platoon was sitting on some bleechers outside, waiting on the DS. During this time of no supervision, for unknown reasons, this particular person decided to slap the glasses / BCGs off of the face of the other recyclee (who was actually a nice kid. Just couldn't pass a PT test to save his life). This pissed another guy in the platoon off. As he got up to confront the guy, 2 DS, the 1SG, and the CO came around the corner. They asked what was going on and the situation was explained. The troublemaker gets aggitated at the leadership for not doing anything about the big guy who was about to body slam him, so he gets the brilliant idea to charge at the CO aggressively with an SDI standing right there. I swear it all happened in slow motion. SDI gave 2 verbal warnings to stand down. As soon as the kid started charging, the DS took one step forward and body slammed that kid so hard before he could take another step. Kid literally flipped in the air. It was absolutely EPIC! Needless to say, the MPs showed up, hauled the kid off in cuffs and we never saw him again.
This story is kind of all over the place so I'm sitting here listening, going, "huh?" Why did you shoot right and everyone else shot left? Did you think you heard "shoot right?" Or did you shoot down your buddy's lane at the wrong target? Was there a reason the DS put his hands on you, pushing your head into the dirt? Were you high crawling instead of properly low crawling? DSs USUALLY don't do anything without a reason, even if that reason doesn't make much sense to you in the moment. You said you were getting Hots / A-Meals / Field Chow w/e you wanna call it, instead of MREs? Are you sure that's not how it was supposed to be? Ideally, TRADOC doesn't want you to have an excessive amount of MREs, so they do hot field chow somewhat frequently while out in the field in IBCT. And that's not really something that can be done on accident or without someone's knowledge or approval. Supply has to put in an order count every time and all of those meals are accounted for. They knew what they were doing. And I sure as hell wouldn't be upset about getting a hot meal when I was expecting or supposed to have an MRE. I get that there needs to be accountability with these people, but sometimes I feel like Big Army needs to chill and just let these professionals do their jobs.
My storytelling isn’t the best but it’s also from memory from almost a year ago, but basically I shot at the top right target instead of top left because the ds in the next lane over told his guys top right, but my lane was top left, and I simply misunderstood. The ds who put my face in the dirt was known for being a bad dude who had recently been divorced, and he did similar things to other trainees, so I’m sure it was just cuz he wanted to. With the hot meals it was more about the portion size. Hot food is great but we barely got any calories, whereas mres might taste worse but at least they had snacks and more calories. Appreciate your concerns tho, I don’t remember a lot of it now but it’s in the past.
