I like their game style but I agree the knee and collarbones details should be toned down. Because its a stilized character with almost 2d depth, any line they add it give much more emphasis than it should if it was 3d model. A good example is If you are doing a caricature of someone smiling, if you draw all the wrinkles on eyes and nasolabial folds you will make the person look a lot older because you are highligthing these details. These details are realistic if you are looking the person but the lines you decide to show or hide give different effects in the end result. Coming back to the parafolks people, I think its a matter of toned down like 20% or 30% of opacity and our brains wont pay that much attention to these bony kness and collabones, with that we can appreciate more the overall image instead of details.
I thought the art style was really good from the jump and the outlines were a nice touch. They’ve definitely gave this game it’s own personalized aesthetic that isn’t a clone of anything.
Thing is, just because there is reasoning behind their art style, doesn't make the artstyle perfect. Every artist has his reasonings. They can always improve their art, if it helps the recipient to feel the emotions the artist tries to go for. When some people like me see the harsh red knee and shoulder lines as horrific open wounds, that wasn't the emotion the artist tried to go for, I'm sure 😅 and they promised to improve this particular issue, thankfully
But even if you feel that emotions - I don't. 😢 Many ppl don't mind, dont care and some may even find it quite appealing and unique. Am sorry if u r uncomfortable but for me it feels really weird that everyone need to suffer to accomodate minority and the reason is not even tangible. What do people mean with uncomfortable? Is it more uncomfortable than the discomfort of the artist and the team working on the project to remake it?
@@justinemot2282 improving the graphics doesn't mean "make it better for few, worse for all others". This is a false dilemma. I get that any change could make the game worse for you and is therefore a bit scary, but trust the devs. They will never publish an artstyle they don't like, they are very fierce in that
First of all: The house looks amazing! 😍 Second of all: I too think that the lines on the parafolks knees and shoulders are a bit too much. But the more I look at it on bigger screens instead of my phone, I don't mind them at all. Just like you, if Paralives draws me into their world, I'm fine with the aesthetics. At the moment, sometimes the Paras look a bit odd, but I believe it's going to feel different while playing. Thanks for coming to my TED talk :D
i just think the lines on the skin itself is abit too harsh now.. example: i dont like lines they have added on the shoulder... it looks weird to me. I dont think the skin detail lines, should be as harsh as the outer line. Also the older picture u used for sebastion, the lines looks more faded and closer to the artstyle they are trying to use (in my opinion). I dont think people commenting disslike the artstyle, but just how harsh they have chosen to make the lines now.
I feel like a lot of people forgets that they can’t copy the same art style like the sims The sims 4 did something correct with the kinda cartoon/realistic art style making it more satisfying and super improved. But I feel like when it comes to this type of games, the sims 4 are the only ones who managed to do that kind of art perfectly (it’s like one if a kind). So when other people are trying to make simulator games like the sims, it’s kinda hard to code something similar to it (since I’m sure EA copyright it) but also so they don’t copy them etc etc (they need to come up with different arts now) and tbh when it comes to simulator arts, the rest that is left that isn’t like the sims (4 ones to be specific) are well- Basic. Plain. Not very high quality/perfect or aesthetically pleasing in the realistic way like the sims did. So basically it’s hard and people shouldn’t be that harsh. Like yes they can do better but no reason to be mean etc etc I’m sure they’re trying their best (especially with that income they have) so
Honestly, I do not mind the lines on the knees at all, what bothers me about them is the redness (haven't seen healthy knees be that red), but the odd line on the shoulders is well.. really odd, I don't even know what that was supposed to emphasise, but It just looks out of place. Otherwise I really like the visuals and art style and have don't have any complaints about the collarbones or any other parts really.
If you have issues with the extra lines, let's just say you will be pleased. I'm just glad that, even making a few adjustments, they didn't cave in and completely changed their graphics to look "more realistic" or whatever. Paralives is Paralives, and Its good they're sticking with their identity, and not just looking like another unity store asset game. Btw. to answer you last question. Windwakerfor sure. When it first came out, everyone crapped on the graphics. and now it's easily one of the most beloved Zelda games. And my hot take is, it aged better than Twilight Princess.
The knees are fucking gorgeous, I would definitely prefer them to stay that way, and the general look of the paras. I recently learned of 'Life by You' and holy damn, and I am so SO sorry for saying this, but it looks like textures used in IMVU and I just- it's so, damn, hideous, I really don't like the realistic style, so I will leave others to enjoy that life sim. But Paralives? Those knees? Damn, I don't wear shorts but I might make my personal para wear shorts just to see the knees!
i feel like they are just way too saturated and dont have many shadows. it looks like 2d art placed on a 3d model and the art style just reminds me of twitter, it just looks kinda low quality and like the team doesnt have much experience on video game design. the bright bright saturated colours remind me of roblox
At first I was a bit weirded out by the art style but then remembered that the sims 4 is not the end all be all and soon I quickly fell in love with the style
First of all the art style of Paralives is fine and appealing to me. It may not be "realistic", but it makes sense or believable overall to fit their style. I sometimes think some people just complain because the art style doesn't fit their standard of beauty or what they think is aesthetic..
I wish those people would just ignore the game. One single game cannot please everyone or fit everyone's preferences and that's okay. I was disappointed when Sims 4 came out cause I thought it looked too cartoony. But it doesn't make the game objectively bad, it's just my preference.
I love the art style. I think the whole world looks like a 3d painting and im actually into that sort of charm. There's new life simulators coming out with more realistic aesthetics for those who want it.
I honestly haven’t noticed anything problematic in actual animation. Like when the characters are in movement they always look fluid and good. I like the commitment to art style, honestly people reshade their sims 4 to death so that it doesn’t even look like the same game. So if the game is GOOD, the players who really can’t stand the way the Parafolk look will alter it with mods anyway. I don’t think that is a reason for the team to alter the art style to look like everyone else. I think once there is a game to actually play, if it’s actually good, no one will not-buy because of the art style.
That’s what I thought. I doubt there are many who would avoid the game because of the art style alone. But it’s interesting to see people would rather the game fit their aesthetics instead of having a cohesive theme that’s unique.
I build a lot in TS4. I mainly just build and listen to music but I do it so much I thought might as well put the finished houses in some of my video. The hours I take building these houses have some sort of purpose 😂
I use a lot of outdated cc 😅 And so much from so many different creators. I have not shared it but maybe in the future when I can properly credit the cc creators
I agree with all of the comments about the art style being weird & not matching and unappealing. I only realized just it the other day though. It's why I never watch any vids about the game, it doesn't interest me cause the art style is icky. The decor, housing etc... looks GREAT. The non-sims, are the turnoff for me. They don't match. They look like they belong in two difft games.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the build 💜 Yeah, Paralives art style is very unique and I can see it’s not for everyone. I saw someone say the knees look like open wounds 😂
I hate the art style. I know many that do but most just keep their mouth shut as do I (except for now) because of how toxic the fanbase is if you say anything negative about the game. You are a great example of this. The comments you showed were constructive. They weren't rude AT ALL, and you even said "what's their logic I this, I don't get it, everyone has to have my viewpoint, or else they are dumb". Ya'll want to criticize the Sims so bad so they can improve but when it comes to Paralives ya'll are the opposite which makes you hypocrites. The game looks good too but graphics are a HUGE part of a game and anyone who disagrees is being dishonest.Ya'll are so anti-EA that everything Paralives does is the best even when it's not necessarily good. The graphics have improved thankfully but the characters look cheap to me. It's why a lot of people hate mixing alpha cc with Maxis's art style because it's out of place. Some don't mind which is fine as well but the majority don't like when art styles don't fully match. Honestly, it's mostly the toxic community why I don't like this game as much because there is a lot of disingenuous people and toxic positivity. It's annoying in Ts4 too. People can't be honest, or criticize this game ever. Peope are allowed to not like this game, or the art style or whatever else. My point will be proven cause I KNOW I'll get attacked for my opinion or it'll just be deleted cause everyone is so weak and sensitive that they cannot for the life of them handle even the slightest of differing opinions. It's honestly pathetic. It's their game, they don't have to change the art style, but they also don't get to complain if they don't get as many sales due to it. I think the biggest reason the art style is the way it is because they don't have the budget for it and as many employees. They kinda had to go for a basic character style. The environment isn't bad but the resources for assets is a lot less than character creations. If they don't want to change the character model, fine, but it would look better if they changed the environment to match the characters.
no but you're so right here. I was thinking just this. for me, I don't care about their artstyle being "cartoon", I like it when it's not realistic. a lot. the thing is... I think their artstyle is ugly. It FEELS like the characters are... low res? I don't know how to explain. the worst part for me is that the characters feel out of place in the scenarios. "the goal is to make the game look like it is a painting" okay... but the rest of the game IS NOT "cartoonish" at all. whenever I see a screenshot, it feels like the scenario is from one game and someone edited Paras in there. It pisses me off. Everyone has black borders, painted shadows and light but the furniture is... normal. they don't have it. that's my problem.
These people from the paralives community possibly never playtested a game yet? It's so important for devs to hear what works great, what works bad, and why. Just "everything is awesome" would not good feedback, neither would be "everything is awful" And it's completely fine to have players with different opinions and different experiences. We're all different, from different cultures, with different (gaming) histories, of course all of us have completely different perceptions of this game. I hope we can grow into a plural paralives community, not into a community where only 1 opinion is correct and must be defended.
I love your content! Its always great to see a Paralives defender! 😊😅 Obs: by the way i just wanted to add that the fact they care about people who have more simple PCs still wanting to play a good lifesim is great. Im always amazed by the fact they were able to create such a nice artstyle that's still very optimized and easy on the PCs. And so far, Paralives has the best art style in my opinion out of all life sims with semi realistic looks.
Ngl I hated the art style when I first started following development because the character outlines stood out too much. Now after coming back to see their progress I love the new look. It does make them unique and they toned down the heavy outlines so much. I don’t like the extra details on the knees and shoulders but that wouldn’t stop me from playing the game since I like how every other aspect looks. I do hope they find a good balance of their intended art style and adjust it to be a bit more pleasing to the eyes for players.
