Jamal's basketball knowledge is undeniable. We come away from this interview with the feeling of having really learned fundamental things about basketball. Thanks to Mash for showing us his basketball IQ and jj is always good at his job
I saw Mash at ORD airport and had a short conversation with him. I pretended like I didn’t know who he was. We just engaged in small talk. He said he was traveling for business. He talked about his restaurants and some other businesses. Really, really nice and down to earth guy. Didn’t bring up basketball at all. Then he stood up and I pretended like he was just 6’8 for no reason and we parted ways 😂
As a Bulls and Warriors fan, I met Bron, AD and Quinn Cook outside of Pabu in SF on my way home from work. Acted like I was just chilling with some giants for no reason, and you see past the noise. Quality human beings.
Definitely have Jamal back on sometime. I don't think anyone I've listened to analytically and take-wise has had a better mix of old school and modern basketball. Loved hearing him talk about the game in his day and how it has changed.
Amazing interview. Mashburn is so much smarter and more interesting than 80% of the NBA podcasters. He doesn't need to be but I'd love to see him more involved in NBA discussions. Also, i have to say that JJ once again proves that he's leagues ahead in the NBA podcast space. The questions and directions he goes off to after hearing Mashburn talk is so interesting and informative. Sure not many laughs or comedy but it's smart basketball talk and as a basketball nerd. I love it.
Brilliant interview - what a chilled, interesting guy. Loved the stories and technical info he shared. Only been mad into the NBA for a few years so bar a my team card, I didn’t know lots about mash, cheers for the great content JJ and pleasure to listen to/learnt about Jamal’s career 👌🏽
Jamal Mashburn was him! But his basketball IQ is so high. He is a great interview. Very captivating in his analysis and stories. Great job whoever booked this man.
Holy crap, 5 minutes in to his interview and Jamal's already one of my favorite listens in your pod. High IQ, no ego. Let's goooooo THANK YOU JASON. You won the draft just for your no talking in the theatre answer.
Wow, this is one of the most cerebral conversations about the NBA I've ever heard, especially the evolution of the styles and how teams and individuals went through it. I love that Jamal was one of the first two implement the modern style of bigs being able to pass, dribble, shoot, play the "point", etc.
Great interview. Always liked Jamal when he played but back then you never really got a chance to hear them talk and express themselves like you do with players these days. So its really nice to hear from him now, very articulate and interesting guy to listen to. Seems like a really nice person.
@@AngeloBxThat was a great team too! I would take the Heat, but hey, I don't root for teams because that's just not my kind of fandom. I root for good basketball, period. Cheers sir!
The best Old Man and the Three draft moment remains the time when Tommy called Victoria’s Secret undeniable in the mall draft, but Josh Hart leading us off with the ethics of cousin marriage is a close second.
As someone who is in the stage of learning more about the nuances of the game, this was such a delight to watch. I rarely get to hear from players of that time period since I was born in the early 2000’s. This was such an insightful and nuanced discussion. I love that the exchange is coming from a place of wanting to inform. Thanks for creating content for my late night snacking JJ!
JJ This is probably one of the most Exciting Interviews I have seen in a minute! The stories, the Information. Jamal Mashburn!!! More collabs with him...and other Legends. We want to hear these Jewels from the Gr8s. That Big Cat Interview is still a favorite lol.
JJ u are one of e best pods in e game.U gave Jamal Mashburn time to speak.U didn't rush, interrupt or cut him off.Wen u got legends,u listen then they talk.I fw Jamal's Basketball IQ,analytics & speaking tech.Pls bring him back JJ.I loved e episode.
This episode was a 💎 JJ!!!... excellent b-ball talk...im still pissed to this day about the 3Js not working out...i remember crying myself to sleep when Laetner hit that shot 😆...i would've love it you brought more players from the 90s era on..have you had Alan Houston on pod yet?
I love the pod, I loved the convo and storytelling portion with Jamal. But, what I the world was that draft portion of the episode!!?? 😮😮😮what in the world JJ. Lol 😂
Wasn't too familiar with Mr. Mashburn Sr as he was before my time. As a fan of the NBA and basketball as a whole this is one of the best basketball related talks I have come across in my years.
DONT forget about the full-court press. One of the first to really utilize that during the 90's. He had the best conditioning---and had deep plug-play benches that could wear down a lot of the teams they played.
good episode, one thing though JJ is that poor driving isn't the root cause of traffic. It's the fact that in most cases people have no alternative but to use the roads. Tokyo has perhaps the greatest rail system in the world, which is why they are able to have roads with no traffic.
Hey, I am a uconn fan and grew up hating duke, but i must say JJ is awesome on this and first take. He is the only person who has nba experience, makes valid points and says the right things. I do think stephan A and mad dog are good as well because they have been around a while, but JJ keep doing First take if you want you are the most credible on these shows!
By far one of the best guests on this pod. Gotta get more legends on here
Not sure I'd call Jamal Mashburn an NBA legend but agreed on having more old school players

shoulda said “goodbye Mr. Monster Mash” and then he would’ve known that u knew who he was the whole time 😂

Now finishing this interviewing…. This was by far the best guest I have ever seen on jj’s pod. Totally enjoyed every second of it
Every second. Every word.
Definitely have Jamal back on sometime. I don't think anyone I've listened to analytically and take-wise has had a better mix of old school and modern basketball. Loved hearing him talk about the game in his day and how it has changed.
Mash is that GUY! Always keeps it a stack. Much love to you all.
Great guest would love to have mash back at some point seems like he has endless stories
So refreshing to hear a 90’s era great be able to respect this era while still holding on to their own era.
This is one of the best conversations about the game I’ve heard in a while. Shout to Mash, Harlem legend.
This was such a great interview. I have always been a fan of Jamal Mashburn going back to his Kentucky days.

Aside from Tim Legler, I think Mash might be the most eloquent NBA player guest on JJ's pod so far.
fire interview. jamal is slept on
Yo you should give Mash an hour a month JJ, very succinct and great points!
Watched Monster Mash drop his career high 50 against the Grizzlies in OT back in 04. A scoring stud that people often forget.
Maaaan Timmy, Majerle, Mashburn, PJ, Zo in those red Heat unis. Underrated squad.
Voshon, Danilovic, Ike. That whole 97 squad was so good for shooting and defense.
Houston, Oakley, Johnson, Starks and Ewing >>>

They should've won that chip when they lost to NY
Mashburn was one of my favorite players growing up. Awesome convo with him
I've watched every single interview you have done on this channel. That might be in the argument for best you have ever done! Great job!
All about the guests. These older gen x dudes are more articulate and cultured. Like Legler
I used to model his post up turn around fadeaway when I was 12 or 13...what a legend, always used him in Courtside '98 for N64 too!
Mash hasn’t hashed a day lol this is a legendary interview
jamal was a great guest and the draft was hilarious

That was a truly great and enjoyable interview!
Mash is one of the most realistic OGs from that era in basketball which is much appreciated these days
Tremendous conversation. First saw Jamal play at Cardinal Hayes and rooted for him ever since.
Great to see Jamal Mashburn! Up Hayes!

I remember grant hill sharing similar sentiments. He thought the nba was easy when he first got there.
I was sleep on this interview. Mashburn out here giving it up 🔥🔥
Balloons being illegal is a wild take
Jamal being a Heat season ticket holder breaks my Mavs' heart.
Has Mash aged a day wtf? I could listen to him forever. More please.
Kinda funny to hear Mash explain to JJ how a Duke mega star was looked at/treated. Lol. If anybody would know that feeling it would be JJ.

The best podcast I've ever listened to on the nuances of the NBA. First class, very intelligent conversation.
This was one of the best episodes. Jamal was an amazing guest. And I'm a Knicks fan that hated the guy!
Most underrated interview on this pod
MONSTER MASH! 🙌🏾💯
love this interview, well done
Great interview. People gotta stop playing cause Mash had some of the best footwork in da game and had a very high basketball IQ.
MOST UNDERRATED INTERVIEW ON THIS POD!!! 🧠🧠🧠
Jamal should do commentary or some sort of basketball show. It's a joy to hear his analysis.
Monster Mash. As a Miami kid we loved him and that team
This dude was a beast!
DONT forget about the full-court press. One of the first to really utilize that during the 90's. He had the best conditioning---and had deep plug-play benches that could wear down a lot of the teams they played.
One of the most insightful player you had on the pod fosho. Loved Jamal!
