sorry took me a while to reply-- straight bottom boats dont dig into the sand. when you are on a sand-bar and the tied goes out, you have to back out the boat, and the steps dig in...and stop the boat from sliding off the sand. When they dig in deeper, the engine has to overrev and work real hard to pull the boat in reverse, and can cause a lot of damage to hull- maybe even suck sand into the engine intakes.. ALL BAD!
