Due to spoilers all comments are now held for review before being approved by a channel moderator. Thank you.
Good call . I didn't think RUclips even allowed that. I hope you can continue to enjoy the show without further issues.
It's a shame you have to do this, much love to the mods
Good choice, mc! Outstanding! This story is one of my favorites. It's sad that half-wits and evil fun-haters make it necessary and all that, but it must be protected. Moderators, thank you for your work.
Excellent idea 💡
Sorry about that
Such a powerful conversation between Delenn and G’Kar … great performances.
I remember when I had a telepath villain in one of my D&D games, who at one point fed the party intel on a common enemy. When the party asked where he got his information, he of course replied with Bester's line "I'm a telepath. You work it out."
The new ISN anchor telling us that there is no war in Ba Sing Se.
Delenn trying to apologise to G'kar is one of the more upsetting scenes in B5.
Perhaps.....but not today.
"Campaign of 'Misinformation'." ("Have to STOP that 'Misinformation'.") Sound familiar? THIS is why I have been SO terrified at what the public has been ACCEPTING in the last few (up to 10+) years!
It was scary in fiction back in the 90s, it is even MORE scary now IRL.
Always a treat to see Bester! Walter Koenig did a great job as a conniving, intelligent, almost slimy ongoing antagonist.
What's Russian for MiniTrue?
That conversation between Delenn and G'Kar is always just heart breaking :( 💔😭😭😭😭 You can see Mira tearing up during and Andreas's speech changes to reflect G'kar's hurt 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The exchange between G'Kar and Delenn is one of the single best scenes I've ever watched. Two of the finest performers given great dialogue, just let them go and learn from it.
Bester was in surprisingly few episodes but has a really big presence. Pragmatic villain, happy to play the role of the badguy because of the view people have towards telepaths and the psi-cops but never really goes full baddie.
Well, there was the time he said he let the Psy Corps *vivisect* a friend of the B5 crew. I'd say that alone gets you pretty far on the "full baddie" scale.
"He who controls information, controls the world." That is exactly what is going on in Russia at the moment. There, it is forbidden to call the war a war.
It's so good to see you back. This is one of the best reminders of what an amazing show Babylon 5 was.
That scene with Delenn and G'Kar is one of may favourite of the whole show. G'Kar has grown so much since the beginning of the series. Here comes, once again, one of the main themes of the series - forgiveness.
G'Kar's quiet answer to Delenn is so full of emotion: "Perhaps one day ... but not today".
"Mr Bester" - "Yes" - "Get the hell out of my chair!" I love that part.
The reestablishment of ISN at the beginning of this episode carries with it some very strong similarities to that which is going on in the world today :(
I think all of B5 hits differently with the war in Europe.
@@The45thClown yeah I had the thought while watching this that watching the Narn-Centauri war these days would hit differently, like the Markab plague.
@@The45thClown Absolutely. I'm younger than B5 is, so cannot remember the 90s from firsthand experience. The parallels to then are things I've read. The parallels to now are - I don't know of any English word that would describe it? Delenn's speeches to me hit the hardest. When I woke up to the news on the 24th, before it all really settled in, I turned on that one with the candle (you'll know which one I mean). Hits just as hard as this one. The severed dreams one also, and some from season 4. If this show has taught me anything it is that we do not learn from history... so it repeats.
How many were hoping to see another woman popping in behind her holding a placard that reads:
"Don’t believe the propaganda. They’re lying to you." - But yeah, this episode doesn't totally mirror RL but scenes do.
6:54 yep, it's a Star Trek joke that the actor who played Bester, also played Ensign Checkov, who NEVER sat in the big seat on the Enterprise
Until Star Trek V, but we all try to forget Star Trek V.
@@sdfried4877 😆
10:42 I just realized that Dr. Franklin is playing it coy here because, as a conductor of the underground railroad, he must certainly have known what that bracelet meant. He just couldn't let Bester know that he knew.
"Never trust somebody who smiles that much" Dead on ! :D
Watching these months after you made them have reminded me how much I LOVED this show.
I didn't realize it at the time, in the 1990s, but this was preparing me for so much that was to come in America
Totally. Even from 1000 miles away, when the patriot act came out every B5 fan in Australia was like "Oh. My. God. It's happening."
Wo ho !!!!!! Babylon 5 reaction time. The most looked forward to day or two RUclips has to give me each week !!!
Bester is the best. Just the best.
Better than the best. He's Bester!
The machine says kill, to protect. The sign hurts us, we cannot hear the machine.
"We could pursue it and attempt to inquire?" Oh Lennier, never change.
And he does sound like he's prepared to do it, even though following a shadow Battle Crab is *clearly* a very bad idea.
Cracking episode this one, opens a number of doors...
I liked the initial conversation between Sheridan and Bester when Sheridan was still considering whether to blow Bester up at range or risk escorting him to B5.
After you have finished watching Babylon 5, I would suggest watching the interview with Bill Mumy on the FoundationINTERVIEWS channel.
He talks about his introduction to B5, his experience with Lennier's prosthetics and why his character doesn't show up as often as others.
The interview also talks about plotlines that appear after the point you have reached in the show, so best to come back to it later.
JMS covered so many important things in this series. The news network that pumps out pure lies for political ends has really come into it's own. You couldn't have watched that sequence at a more relevant time. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. B5 never get old.
and now for the russian news cast :)
Straight up true. They even just had a moment like that ISN moment, where the editor comes in and is trying to tell the truth during the broadcast. That Russian editor is likely to get 15 years in prison now because of some recent laws passed, assuming she doesn't just disappear under mysterious circumstances.
Or as I call it: Uncle Vladi's Fairy Tales.
@@brandonreed09 There will be a terrible accident. How did that piece of soap get to the upper end of that staircase?
Good to have you back reviewing B5 . I love Bester as a character . Walter was only supposed to have a small part in series one but was ill , so the creator wanted him in the show he promised Walter a part and given an even bigger part. ♥️
Churchill's Coventry dilemma - keep mum and accept the losses to keep your enemy in the dark that you have broken his communication.
A turning point for G'Kar when Delenn tells him the truth. It is true when G'Kar said that, if she had told him at the time of Narn's bombardment, he would have killed her right there and then. But, since then, G'Kar has gained patience, humility, and wisdom. Delenn sees those qualities in G'Kar very clearly from his reaction. It may him some time to forgive Delenn but he understands why such silence on her part was necessary.
The new Starfury Thunderbolt was introduced in "Severed Dreams" to give the audience some difference between the enemy and our forces in the ensuing battle, as Babylon 5's fighters were Starfury Auroras.
Now we get to see these new fighters in the hands of our guys.
The thing is, Bester is ultimately right. Psi Corps is responsible for a lot of shady stuff but they really ARENT to blame for Sophie's death. Susan gets this thrown in her face in one of the later books:
"Hundreds of people take the sleeper drugs. Do you think we want to poison brother and sister telepaths? Of course they're safe. But you're supposed to start taking them once your abilities develop. That's the first option. Or you join the Corps. That's the second, best option. Or you go to jail. That's the third option. But your mother decided she didn't have to play by the rules. She wanted a family - fine! - but wasn't prepared to give up her telepathic gifts to have one. So she lied, and hid, and grew more and more emotionally reliant on those gifts until when she was finally forced to make the choice between family and telepathy it was as traumatic as losing a limb or a sense and the resulting depression killed her. That's why you don't get years to make this choice, Commander, and that's why your emotions don't get a say in this today."
Part 2 is already up! Happy surprise for the evening, thanks as always & I'm sorry ppl are still spoiling it & causing trouble.
This version of ISN is CNN from 2016 on.
I'm worried about guessing something that may be true and it seeming spoilery. So I'm just going to remark that I'm enjoying the reaction.
I know we distrust Bester but I would love to see what he did to the Shadow loyalists in the Psi Corpes
Babylon 5 is just too good
The telepaths were frozen midscream so she woke up screaming.
Damn if those cryo-frozen telepaths don't give me the willies, the heebie-jeebies, and the creeps all at the same time . . .
De'lenn -> "We had to choose between the death of millions and the death of billions."
G'Kar-> "Some have to be sacrificed in order for all to be saved."
These two lines have stuck with me as NATO continues to deny Ukraine its request for a No Fly Zone and help keep their skies clear as a madman in Russia holds the power to launch over 1,500 nuclear missiles all around our planet right now. :(
I am sorry for the spoiler issues. Sorry for the idiots and thank you so much for all your hard work!
I have to ask, will you be watching the movies that take place during the show as well? Thirdspace is amazing, and will take place between seasons 4 & 5 chronologically.
For a minute I thought the ISN news anchor's nose was growing
Bugger! I was just getting into that story.
Cracking timing on the cut!
I love that Delenn met Gkar alone. If Gkar went mad with Anger at her silence and tried to kill I think Delenn would not have defended herself. She was willing to take whatever punishment Gkar might have done as penance for her choice.
I love Bester, not a hero, not a villain, but someone you have to watch very closely. Boy did he screw Mr. Garibaldi over later.
Just finished . . . ready for Part 2 . . . now! :P
Love the new hairdo!
That ISN broadcast is so timely. Russian Channel One just had a similar incident where an editor, Marina Ovsyannikova, came into the live broadcast and started protesting against the war, stating that the Russian people were being lied to. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens to that news satation as what happened to ISN.
Glad you're back with B5... It gets better!
Yeah!! It's so good to see you back reacting to B5!!
The new woman in ISN was just....I don't know how to describe it, her voice just encapsulated smugness, insincerity and as you say about the smile, it reminds me of Tony Blairs near constant smiles.
The scene with Delenn and G'kar was pretty hard to watch.
Thank you for your reactions as always.
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is BS. The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy, nothing more. The enemy of my enemy has their own agenda that has nothing to do with helping me in the long run. They might benefit of doing so short-term, but...
The enemy of my enemy is a diversion.
So many parallels to current events in this show.
Great reaction x
6:53 Maybe. Chekov had the conn in Star Trek V for a bit. But I don't think he ever made captain in canon-Trek, unlike Sulu for example.
According to TV Tropes, it's because Walter Koenig never got to sit in the big chair in Star Trek. So he made sure he got to do it in B5.
As I understand it, _Admiral_ Chekov became known as an author and historian who wrote a book or two about his experiences aboard the Enterprise and Kirk.
Please everyone, stop putting spoilers out there! She will get to episodes when she gets there.
I loved the horror movie vibe of this episode.
aaah it yust breaks up whe want mooore was in the story with you
0:55 The concept of gun ports on the Minbari ships being open as a sign of non-agression has got to be the dumbest part of this whole show. I've always loved B5, but that part never really made any sense to me. Even if the practice was a cultural thing amongst Minbari, they are smart enough to understand that it could be misinterpreted by anybody else. Of all the ideas in this wonderfully complex and engrossing story, for me, this was the weakest link.
The better question is: How did the earth force vessel knew it were gun ports?
In a way, it shows how arrogant and isolated Minbari society had become at the time, and the Grey Council in particular, so set in their rituals and traditions that they don't even pause to consider how "lesser" races might perceive them.
ISN , this Is CNN....
