As someone who's never sewn anything in years and has never looked up content on sewing, idk why this video was recommended to me... but I had to click to point out how genius of a name sew&tell is.
Just finished! I'm absolutely a beginner at sewing, but here's some tips (some not necessary) for anyone who wants to make this: • When using the template to cut his outline out, make sure to make his arms more pronounced! Add a bigger curve to his arms, or he'll look a little nubby. Same with feet, but be careful. I know Totoro's stubby but my finished product looks limbless, lol. I wish I cut out his arms bigger 😭 •Optional: add a backing to this insides. My grandma helped a lot with this project, and INSISTED it must have a lining. I bought 4 yards of cheap white muslin to line it (the body, belly, and ears). It'll make him less lumpy when you fill it, and more secure. • Don't add a zipper unless you make the ears and body one unit. I actually bought a zipper with the intention of sewing it on, but I realized I can't wash the plush anyways because I sewed the ears on stuffed separate. You can't submerge the stuffing at all, so I ended up not sewing a zipper because I couldnt wash it anyways. But if you think you'll refill it, it may still be worth it. • For fun! Put pipe cleaner in the whiskers instead of stuffing. It makes the whiskers less limp and more flexible. • I highly recommend leaving the hole for stuffing him between the ears on the head. It makes hand sewing on the whiskers 10 times easier because you can reach in through the head. • I found that 15 lbs of Polyfill was the perfect amount. I wanted a super squishy Totoro, but if you want more or less it's up to you. (Also double the quantity of black felt, I ran out of space for the whiskers). Super fun project! I love my new Totoro 😊 Beats paying hundreds of dollars for one.
I made this! Just finished today actually 😁 it's the smaller version, about three feet tall. I hand embroidered his face details (it was too small to sew on with felt) and added a zipper to the back! I love how he turned out, he's so big and soft and cuddly 🤗 cost me about $25 in materials, which was great, considering these retail for like $200
This idea was so cute. I wanted to make it right away and when my goddaughter said she wanted a Totoro room I decided to make it as her Christmas gift. It’s bigger than she is and she loves it. Thank you so much.

Well, technically you should, you can put an invisible zipper on the 5" gap she mentioned, and when you flip it around you will have the hole to fill it with the beans, I believe it should be the same process

Hi no worries!! first download the template sellfy.com/p/PWk6/ and then i open it in adobe reader, when you click "print" there will be an option for "tile" or "poster" this will give you the actual size and print on multiple sheets
