    Lemme see if I have this straight: Copperpot was the most trusted Nirvana tape trader, likely in part because of his efforts with matrix mixes. He had permission from private tapers/sources close to the band to post stuff online in a relatively legally safe way every now and then. RareNirvana is a different tape trader who was in the circle but didn't have permission to post some stuff of his own. He went and posted new footage of The Underground 1988 show, and that scared/pissed off the owners of the tapes, so now future tape trading is delayed, if not outright off the table with these people. Copperpot must have gotten upset enough by this to delete his channel.
    What a mess. Let me say that I've always hated private tape trading communities. I've had to contend with it in the Joy Division and Coil spheres for well over a decade, now. I think a lot of people just like to have things that others do not, like it makes them feel special. It is a selfish, elitist attitude, but I know firsthand you have to play this BS game if you want to get more stuff. You just have to navigate around sensitive, suspicious egos, and this can be very easy or incredibly difficult, depending on what material is at stake and who you're dealing with. I have several items in a handful of bands no one will ever get to see or hear and it bothers me. I would get vastly more fulfillment out of sharing more items publicly and making more people happy. But I can't do that. I can't stop playing the game, lest I never get to play again.
    When it comes to material already available publicly, I think it is silly to criticize one person uploading a copy of something someone else already did. RareNirvana doesn't rip off Copperpot by doing that. But when it comes to private material ready to be made public, I speculate that perhaps RareNirvana must have felt he had paid enough dues to make a new public post of his own, to revel in a bit of the social clout releasing new material brings the egotistical poster. Or maybe he thought he had gotten permission from the right person before doing what he did, then all Hell broke loose right after. Or maybe he just got sick of playing the game and wanted to stick it to the elitist tape traders.
    I have no idea. But this whole situation does bring into perspective what it takes to get new material of our favorite bands. Playing the game is not easy.

      Hear hear......but let's all remember it's FUCKIN MUSIC and made to be heard and enjoyed. The hoarding and private collector crybaby scene is ridiculous. Makes no sense at all. It's not your private life, it's music that the band made to share with the world. This footage rules by the way.

      Never heard of “tape trading” communities, could some explain?

    • @Viper505repiV1
      @Viper505repiV1 2 года назад +2

      @@calebhightower6676 "Tape trading is an unofficial method of distribution of musical or video content through the postal system, which was prominent in the 1980s and 1990s. Although most commonly used to distribute and publicize limited-release musical demo tapes in underground musical genres such as punk, hardcore, and extreme metal, the system has also been used to distribute bootleg recordings of live concerts, recordings of radio broadcasts, original radio-style programming by amateur broadcasters, and videotapes of underground films and pornography."

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts Год назад +1

      @@calebhightower6676 To extend on Viper505repiV1's comment, the tape (music recording) trading we're referring to is where someone has bootlegs, & won't let anyone else have or hear them. This is a stupid attitude, because if a tape's lost, it's *gone.* I've heard of it happen not with boots, but with 1930s movies, and those were in a 20th Century Fox vault in 1937 when they burned. I can't watch 4 of the oldest Charlie Chan detective movies because of this, & that was a popular series in its day with 44 movies released.
      I may have experienced some this elitist attitude once myself in the XTC (band) live boot community. One guy popped in, said he had a recording we didn't, but wasn't sharing.
      If someone cares about preserving a recording, they _really_ should let it be duplicated so it's in multiple places instead of a home or storage unit. Just having it in *one* place in the world is a very easy way for it to be lost. If they want to collect things, there are other rarities around to collect which aren't going to have their content lost. Movie posters, video games, stamps, guitars? Heck, even go find something super rare which others know about but don't have a picture of, then share the pic of it. I did it once with a rare Atari game, AtariAge didn't have a pic of the box, so it was cool.

    My embarrassing confession...I was 8yrs old in 88. My first 3 cassette tapes were Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, New Kids On The Block...2yrs later graduated right to Nirvana and have been a rock chick ever since! Bleach and Incesticide are my fave 2 albums, SLTS and I numerous were polished, but it's these early tunes that get me going. This band changed my life and I have worshipped them ever since. I was only 14 when Kurt died, I was devastated. I hope he is at peace and sees how much his fans still celebrate him all these years later. He and Dave and Krist made their mark...

Even so young at this time, he already captured the vocals, guitar & lyrics that made him SUPER GREAT ROCK STAR...FIRST REAL GRUNG BAND I WAS AWARE OF! (I wish he had hooked up with a cool girl as sweet & loving as he was.) He would still be with us if his life had not been taken from him so damn early! This is the only live version of school that I've heard where he sings the chorus like he does on the Bleach recording. I always thought this sounded so much better.

    Too bad you didn't rip the proper mix - there was a better version with the additional camera angle.and now that's not on the table anymore . And tell your buddy whoever supplied this from where you got it from that they really effed things up with the other shows that might not get released now - totally lame.

      Its crazy how you LN guys still think you own 30 year old videos of a band you weren't ever in. Have fun going to your grave with your special never seen by anyone else rare Nirvana video. You are so cool.

      @@deadmoon7510 yeah thats cool. No excuse for these dorks to be circle jerking about which one gets to upload it to youtube first though. Are you sure you guys love the music or do you love the thrill of the hunt for it?

      @@stevebarna7429 You dummy, its because when people who can't be trusted get a hold of things and release it improperly, it ends up preventing newer material to be released/seen in the future. Im happy to see this, but not happy how it turned out. Who knows whats out there that we might not be able to get. Hell for 20 years the community didn't even know this was filmed. Its not only about the music, but its also about the trust.

    Damn this is killer! (even though I was only about 13 when this happened), I'm glad to be a part of this area of the US (pnw), music history has been made so many times...too bad they're almost ALL dead now, even Ben from Gruntruck. RIP to all the legends! \m/

    Demais esse vídeo dos primórdios do NIRVANA ! Repare que a estrutura era horrível , mas , mesmo assim , a banda mostrou atitude e voracidade !
