  • I frequently receive this same question: what causes those black verticals stains on walls along the stud lines?
To make it short and sweet, the answer is soot, and it’s usually caused by candles and thermal bridging.

Your wrong you can't have staining in Every room from Candles !! Its more like soot from propane mix being wrong in your furnace!!! I burn only soy candles on my kitchen corner and it still does it in every room !! Come to find out it was because my furnace was burning to rich in my propane!! Quit blaming candles it doesn't and shouldn't happen in every room of the house if it does it because your furnace is burning too rich!!!

how is it caused if you don’t burn any candles and if it’s all over the apartment not just one room also, is there a way to get rid of it without actually repainting your whole wall?

I just bought a house so it was the previous owner if it was candles. It's mainly around where her pictures were so not sure if it's the same issue. I won't be burning candles and want to prime and repaint. With it go away?

Is that bad to breath ?
Does that soot get in your lungs , appliances & hands ?
My daughter is a smoker ,so we thought burning candles would be ok .
She smokes outside, sometimes the smoke comes in when the patio door is cracked open so she can smoke at the door.
    Please reply

Ghosting is bound to happen no matter what there is moisture in the air so that helps things like dust and oils from shower steam or cooking stick to walls and anything blocking air movement like a bed dresser or picture frame will show the most accumulation first around the edges because of the abrupt stop of flow this also y you shouldn't block corners with furniture because thats where mildew and mold will grow first all way try to leave an inch or 2 for air flow but no health risk at stake just some dreaded cleaning once a year

@@kimhall5357 I'm assuming its on natural gas now but to my understanding LPG puts off more carbon than natural and is also a higher pressure along with being heavier than air so i would think natural gas would be a better option and i think you would have to change some parts in order to use LPG due to the difference in operating pressures.

Can you advise on poorly functioning appliances (i.e. Williams wall furnace in tiny house...) and back-drafting? I know that my stovetop vent is so powerful that it does indeed pull the heat back down from the wall furnace vent (triggering the emergency shut-off). Good times !
