Unfortunately, Adobe camera RAW is not rendering colours properly from a canon R5 or Canon 1DX Mark III. I know canon Digital Photo Professional Software is clunky, but that is the only way I could extract true Canon colours from these cameras.
I agree and I discussed this in my R5 video, etc.
I have come up with settings in ACR that get me VERY close to DPP. These are described in my R5 setup guide - www.glennbartley.com/CanonR5SetupGuide.html
If DPP works for you that is great. But I hate using it so much I had to find an alternative.
Use Canon DPP 4. Lot better for canon R series. It us clunky but it works the magic for Canon Files.

just bang on ... ACR sucks , and if one thinks he can come close to original DPP quality go for it . surprised that a Pro is accepting " lower" quality from his files . might be a time issue .
DPP is painfully slow , even more so on the M1 chips .
Mr Bartley you are hammering your files with NR ... first DPR ( which over sharpens every file ) and than followed by another AI software if needed ( for whatever reason ) .
Well we all work and think differently .... I rather prefer to use HI while editing , if you not know what I mean by that , it is human intelligence .

Thanks Glenn - another informative video. Like you, since downloading the DxO software I have been revisiting many of my old high-ISO images (with some extraordinary results). In general, I am completely impressed with the results I have been getting - enough so that I have purchased the software. A couple things I would note though: I have not found the darkening effect to be consistent - i.e. not all images are darkened to the same degree. While all images seem to suffer the darkening effect, some are ~1/3 stop, while I have had others where the effect was 2/3+ stops. A quick adjustment of the Exposure slider does generally sort it out without any ill effect. The other phenomena I have found is that the program sometimes overly (and unacceptably) softens an image (presumably in the name of noise reduction) - I have only seen the effect on noisier, low contrast images.
Yes nothing is perfect. But overall....Some nice software!!!

Great info Glenn. Love the way you use actions in PS as well. I use them too now and find the workflow so easy and time efficient.

Excellent, thank you Glenn. I use the R6, and find pure raw lightens many of my images, and also seems to over sharpen using deep prime. Your acr tip is very useful.
That's interesting that you find it lightens them. I find it darkens them!
But yes I think the key to using this software is to make up a few presents and then it speeds things along. Cheers!

Thanks and useful. I use LR Classic as my backbone (and LR Mobile on the road “when” I travel) and selectively use DxO Photolabs Elite and Tooaz as needed. I assume I’d get PhotoLabs to do the equivalent to Pure Raw. Stay well.

Hi Glenn, are you using Topaz Sharpen AI, as well? And if so, how does this fit into this expanded, multi-company workflow? I get confused a bit since Topaz DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI both incorporate both noise reduction and sharpening, and this seems to have the potential for redundancy/overprocessing.
I only use Topaz sharpen on my web presentation files. Or if I have a soft image that maybe it can help with. I have never used it as part of my regular workflow.
I do however continue to use Topaz denoise as step 1 of my basic workflow (after DXO and ACR).
Very useful info, thanks. I'm using DXO Pure Raw and no longer fear using high ISO, but I use Light Room as my editor. I know how to use the masking feature in the detail sliders, but I don't think you can add a plug in like topaz as a layer, or can you? Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and start using PS

Only issue I find with DxO Pure Raw is the color shift in image when it's done processing it into DNG file. I don't get any color shift with Topaz Denoise. Then it can be tough getting the DNG to look like original Canon file.
Finding the perfect program is difficult these days!
Doesn't DxO Pure Raw 2 zero out noise reduction settings from Lightroom or ACR before processing the RAW file? That's my impression from viewing introductory videos from DxO.
Not sure exactly how it works...but the results are fantastic!
@@GlennBartley It's worth to know. Try to add a denoise or sharpen compensation in Lightroom or ACR. Then load the output DNG from DxO into your editor and check if the settings survived. I think crop, distortion and detail will be reset by DxO (for good reasons). Other edits are passed through. You can always edit the noise or sharpness on top of the DxO amount later. I can't find the exact information from DxO where this topic was demonstrated, but I think I have relayed it correctly. Yes, DxO is an interesting tool along with Topaz Photo AI and DeNoise AI for sure - one more tool in the box.
