This was one of the most physically demanding builds we’ve ever taken on but it completely transformed the look and feel of the container home…what ya’ll think? Was all the little attention to detail steps from the Joyce guard (I’m calling it that from now on) to the hidden fastener system worth it??…ok, I’m going for a nap now 🤣
@tylerandtodd My Favorite Boys, my Dynamic Duo. Your deck looks amazing. I love the plans you have for the container home. I'm looking forward to seeing where your vision takes you. Great job Boys. And, a shout out to Dumpy 👏👏👏 Sending Love and Hugs to Tyler and Todd and their Lil Family 💙💙🐕🐕🐈⬛
@@colleensnyder8943 it seems like he brought a sense of peace and knowledge with him. Ever since Dumpy appeared on the scene, Tyler and Todd seen much more at ease under his mentorship. And that’s so important when we take on tasks that we are not well versed in.

@tylerandtodd this is a great idea but oriental Lillie’s are highly toxic to pets and they can easily accidentally ingest it if the pollen gets on their fur and they lick it off, so would give the Lillie’s a miss ❤
The deck is beautiful. You're doing a great job. Don't ever get rid of Dumphy. He's a treasure. Pat yourselves on the back and step back to admire your hard work. Slow and steady. You'll look back on this in no time enjoying the space/home with friends and family.
Picture framing the deck was genius. It looks so classy and like an indoor floor. I love how Dumpy is always giving you guys a hard time but then laughs after. He loves you guys, and we love Dumpy!
Before you guys finish the outside of the stairs tower, you should totally cut in a small hatch door off your deck there. That way you can utilize some of that under the stair space as outdoor storage for stuff like pool toys and supplies, and deck stuff like cushions and whatnot. You can enclose a little cubby area there and line it with something durable and waterproof like that industrial penny tile rubber mat or something along those lines. It wouldn't be all that hard to add and it would be super convenient to have! Just a thought.. 😊
A friend of my stepdad's built an old-fashioned salt-box house with cedar siding. He's taken very good care of it and only had to replace a handful of boards in the 50 years since he built it. Cedar will last a lifetime or longer if you take care of it. Excellent choice, fellas.
Dumpy is a great guy and builder. I love your deck. So much outdoor space. I am happy for you both. The dogs got the life. They already love the deck.❤
We have a small composite porch and it is maintenance free. BUT in the summer you could fry an egg--it burns my feet even if I'm wearing sneakers. And in the winter, it freezes before any other surface; light snow turns into a sheet of ice. It looks great after 13 years, but it's not comfortable 10 months out of the year. Cedar all the way!
I only have a 16'x6' size deck in the sun. I did use composite but I chose the Moisture Shield Cool Deck boards. Yes, expensive but it dead heat summer it's cooler than PT and almost as cool as grass. Absolutely no regrets on spending that little extra since it was a small deck and the boards came in 16' lengths.
Looks amazing!! The way you hid those screws and added the framing around the deck completely elevated the entire project! Oh, and congratulations for hitting 250K subscribers!!
Ohhh when Dumpy laugh with you guys, what a great blessing to have a mentor like him. You guys came with a ton of skills and great work ethic. It’s good to have someone show you the refined skills that Dumpy knows. That deck is *chefs kiss”!
My deck had skirting like that. I agree it looks way sharper. But the main downside was it allowed NO breeze, which meant the ground was almost never dry under there. It just was moist, and humid. It caused the joists to actually rot from the bottom. I would suggest thinking of a way to make sure under the deck is vented!
Cedar decking was the right way to go, You won't have to touch it for decades, always looks smart, under the deck you can store pool stuff, lounge chairs, lawn mowers, just make a small door and you have another storage areas.Your choice of course. Looks great!
We did a natural cedar deck (huge!!!) 12 years ago and it is rotting everywhere. Cedar is so beautiful, but as much as I wanted to avoid it, I regret we didn’t do something to protect it. We are 69 now, and just not physically able to replace it all.😢 Your deck looks really lovely with no topside screws! You fellows are doing a brilliant job. And there is ALWAYS a silver lining. I find the harder it is to find, the more rewarding. I wear every grey hair with pride. I have earned each and every one! Stay cool, guys. Onward and upward! Really look forward to your videos.
Congratulations guys. It’s good to see you have recovered from the disasters of the previous builder and have progressed so far and so well. You are SO fortunate to have Dumpy as well. Full marks to him, too!
The deck being ...well, decked, has really started to make the place look like a house. It gives it a bit of warmth and softens the severe industrial look of the containers. Great job!
Not sure if this will put your mind to rest but we just pulled up a 20 year old porch that looked rotten on top to put up a timber tech deck and the old joists and beams actually looked great still. You’ll be fine!
Dream team you all are! Dumpy's attitude is my favorite! Loved his "I hope I never build another deck" comment! And his laugh is contagious! And holy that deck is looking absolutely incredible!!!!! The screwless look is perfection!!! All the hard work put in was for sure worth it! Well done!!! The skirting with the deck board looks so good too! And the water slide coming back up means it will have to happen! My hopes are now too high for you to not have a water slide! It will also add to the indoor outdoor space! Haha!!! Another amazing video!!!!! ❤
I've probably said this before, but I am OLD so am allowed to repeat myself! I really enjoy your overhead view, where you show the forest surrounding your beautiful container abode. It reminds me of the family farm in Eastern Ontario, which included a lake, and Dad and I would walk through the forest alongside the fields to reach the lake. My biggest joy was being able to snowshoe through the forest to (and on!) the frozen lake when I was home from University for "Reading Week"!
Dumpy is the man. Just really like his willingness to help. Offer advice, always there to lend a hand. 🎉 May God continue to bless you both. Can't wait til next week.
My lads again you impressed with that upgraded deck. Love the side screw! The break at the river is a favorite place. Dumpy you're a great person, thanks for showing up and getting it done.
Dumpy really is an absolute treasure! Love the cedar! It looks fantastic! I'd say it was definitely the right choice to go with given all the complaints about composite and how well cedar wears. As others have said, putting in some storage/access space within the skirting isn't a bad idea at all. So excited to see this deck coming together!
The deck is beautiful!!! I love the way you both used the new tool to put the screws into the side of the decking boards. Between that, and the way Dumpy skillfully did the edge on the deck, this deck looks better than the inside of most homes. I was just thinking of how many skills you guys have learned and have become accomplished at during this build (not to mention your renovation of the lake house). I'd venture to say that you both are more skilled than most of the tradesmen who do this for a living. Big shout out to Dumpy for being a part of this journey now, and teaching you both (and your viewers) how to do things the correct way. What a learning experience for us all! Have a wonderful week you two! See you next Sunday... ♥
Gosh dang I love Dumpy and I’m thrilled you finally have someone who is looking out for your best interest, plus knows a thing or two about construction! ❤️❤️🙏 Give that man his own bedroom! The deck looks amazing and I can see the end result and it will be gorgeous! Please continue to capture Dumpy in your videos, he’s the best! 👍👍👏👏❤️❤️
The deck looks stunning, the cedar is beautiful and I love the smooth clean finish with no visible screw holes. Wonderful watching Charlie and Eddy playing at the river x
I love the graphic of the happy little cartoon Todd on his water slide! 😂 The deck is looking amazing (glad you decided to use the Joyce protection!). Hugs 🤗😁🤗
So happy for you guy’s the deck is gorgeous! Dumpy is the King & reminds me of my gramps who taught me everything he knew about construction & I am so grateful! Too many less than honest construction companies popping up when you have gold w/ Dumpy because he has worked for your family members 🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
I really like how well planned everything is. It would be nice if you did a video about all the planning you’ve done, the missteps you’ve had along the way, and what things you wished you had planned better and how planning ahead saved you time, money, energy, etc. Honestly guys, I admire you so much for how much you have done here on the land. And Ty, that’s got to be a bankers mind you have, for realizing that they can’t tax you for anything more than property until the house is actually finished and habitable. I’ve seen people go both extremes. Some have gotten 4 walls and moved in with an outhouse etc and finished building once they moved in. Others have had a beautiful home that was move in ready except they left installing the toilets and thermostat until the final day so it couldn’t be considered move in ready. One person I knew kept a house in that state for 6 months in order to save on taxes until his buyers settled on the house. They last day he owned it before turning over the keys, he installed all the toilets, and the thermostat then turned back on the water and gas for the house after testing everything. It saved him thousands in taxes because the house wasn’t considered livable until that last day. I’m sure one day you will enjoy the fruit of your labor and live in this beautiful home. Although, for any future buyer, when you decide to sell it, these videos will be proof how well this place was built!
The deck looks great! I've never known anyone who works as hard as the two of you. I enjoy these visits with you each week. I always find a smile on my face. Thank you
I just have to say the Dumpy was the best thing to happen for you guys considering all the hell you have been through with all those before him. He just seems like family now, that wonderful uncle everyone wishes they had. And you guys are just priceless and it has been a wonderful journey going along with you each week. Rest well and see you next time.❤❤

Tyler and Todd what an absolute LEGEND Dumpy is to have on your side helping you. He is a wonderful person. The deck looks great without the nails showing and wow what a deck it is....Great work. Keep taking time out to spend with your furry babies.
Yeah, Tyler and Todd, the deck top looks fantastic. Love to see Charlie and Eddie having so much fun. I guess Squirrel was sleeping in the geodesic dome with the AC?
THE DECK IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!! I realize you have faced many setbacks but you keep on with good attitudes. With every forward step you are that much closer to fulfilling this dream!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank the Gods for Dumpy! I love the way he just quietly points you guys to the right focus, and then gives you a gentle push. Dumpy, you're the best! The deck is coming along magnificently, and now I can visualize where you're headed with that space. It's going to be spectacular when you finally get it done! And you're right - I worked with my dad's construction company when I was a teenager, mostly roofing, painting and a little finished carpentry. Summers on the roof with 50 lbs of shingles on my back was brutal! Please take as many breaks as you need, and STAY HYDRATED! My love to you both, the boys and Squirrel! -MD
You’re so inspiring, boys! It makes my Sunday night to marvel at your determination and hard work. Nobody does it better, as someone once sang! Bravo. 🙌 P.S. you DO realise you’ll need a LOAD of food for your first house warming party when we all turn up!
We just installed a mahogany pool deck with the “invisible” screws. NO regrets even with the added cost/time for installation. Cedar is lovely! Enjoy it. ❤
The deck is already gorgeous 🥰 The sealant will really bring out the beauty of the cedar and the railings will look amazing! I am so excited for this part! ❤️🐾😺🐾❤️
The absolute JOY of each Sundays showing is watching the two of you work in total harmony with each other and get the work done. The other JOY is when you both include Eddy and Charlie for their fun time in the stream. That fun time 4-together brings PEACE to the soul.
With all the set backs you've experienced I hope you can envision the finish line. The deck is like the cherry on top. It brings the exterior almost to completion. All your hard work and of course the expert advice from Dumpy is making it move on more smoothly.❤
This is a big project. Oh, it's definitely big. 🤣Thanks for the useful explanation about the cedar boards and tools you used to install them. Would that be called toe-screwing instead of toe-nailing? Your deck looks great and will last a long time.
I could always see the vision. My dad was a builder and my brother was an architect. We did so many builds and rennovations that I’m really practised in imagining how something will look. You guys are amazing and I’m here every step of the way
Love it all, your vision is spot on. The deck is perfect. Adopt Dumpy, he’s a hero . ❤️ and scratches to the fur babies, they are so patient. Take care 🌸
The deck is amazing!! Dumpy is the best! I love his laugh! One of my favorite parts of the video is watching the dogs play in the water! 🤗🤗❤️❤️. You two never cease to amaze me with all the work you do! You definitely deserve a wine break!👍🏻👍🏻
I hope you give major kudos to Dumphy. He is a treasure. What’s the most impressive thing is his sharing his knowledge with you two. You’re like sponges soaking up his knowledge. Cheers to a good week!!
Never had a doubt about your plans and vision, dear hearts! You've been working so hard and the fruits of your labor are starting to show. Much love to you and the fury babies. Until your next video!
You're both gorgeous, without or without the gray; and your home is going to be so beautiful filled with love and hopefully one day little feet of a toddler. I can see it now.
You’ve made a gorgeous choice with the cedar and it’s really hard wearing, from what I know. Your home, your rules, your deck your choice! Looks fabulous.
Hi guys from Australia. Beautiful Winter's day here, 20C (68F). Looking forward to Spring next month. The deck is looking fantastic. Can't wait to see you walk out of your beautiful home, cross the deck and jump in the pool.
You made me laugh this evening. You guys have so much energy. I lost my dad this week and you made me smile for the first time this week. Thank you guys. Love what you're doing x
Although more aesthetically pleasing than screws through the top, remember that if you have to access anything under a specific portion of the deck, you're going to have to remove all the boards from the end to that point.
Noooo not at all! Each board is individually fastened in. All you would do is use the tool to line up to where the screws are hidden and pop them out. Super easy!
Best choice going with cedar the deck is beautiful, also the extra work using those camo gadgets was brilliant and it will be worth it in the end. And Dumpy is the man of the year, he’s the best and I look forward to seeing him every week as well. Have a great week 😊
Holy Cow you two Your dedication, drive, faith, and love in everything you do Totally blow me away, not to mention astounding perverance Lord bless you guys Much love from Colorado 🌲💕🕊️
Well yes I think all your extra steps for the deck were excellent idea's. I do especially like the wood floor look with no screws showing + the outside framing of the deck. It gives it that final "pop"! Especially loved the footage of the boys playing & swimming in the River & enjoying their very best life. I swear they were smiling as they played. Much ❤ to you all & of course Squirrel & Mr D! Have a good week & stay safe.
I don’t recall how I found your vlogs but I am so thankful I did! I’m not building a house, nor am I your age. I’m just a mom with grown kids and find the two of you just delightful. You keep up the great videos and you can bet l be watching!
Yes, Cedar should last 25 years. I just replaced mine last year, and my house is 27 years old. One thing I DIDN'T do, that I wish I had done the first time, was stain the UNDERSIDE of the deck boards before I put them down. They would have lasted longer.
This was one of the most physically demanding builds we’ve ever taken on but it completely transformed the look and feel of the container home…what ya’ll think? Was all the little attention to detail steps from the Joyce guard (I’m calling it that from now on) to the hidden fastener system worth it??…ok, I’m going for a nap now 🤣
You boys always amaze me! Your videos make this old lady’s week. God Bless You Both! JeffeysMom

Love it!!!!

As a professional landscaaper, I suggest for shrubs around the deck, things that will be HIGHLY FRAGRANT that you can enjoy while you are out there. If you have a sunny area, the sunny knockout shrub rose (pale yellow) also has a strong fragrance (It's the only one in the knockout series that does)
Maybe some herbs that keep the mosquitos away in some pots? Or mint etc, for drinks and cooking.
@tylerandtodd this is a great idea but oriental Lillie’s are highly toxic to pets and they can easily accidentally ingest it if the pollen gets on their fur and they lick it off, so would give the Lillie’s a miss ❤

Cannot imagine how amazing that moment will feel!! ❤

I’m hoping that the underlying support for the deck area is not going to be a repeat of the Tower / Stairwell.
Enjoy it. ❤
Guys wow I can’t wait to see the finished deck!!!
Surprise surprise is always fun!!!
Love the deck style!!
The deck looks great. Love the fact that you don’t see the screws in the surface.
Big hugs to the pups!!!
That decking is gorgeous and so much better not having screws showing 👏🏻👏🏻
Love the deck and looking forward to seeing the outside done. Absolutely love Dumpy! What a lovely, laid back man.
Just an idea. What about continuing the cedar boards as cladding for the tower? The deck looks amazing.
Wow you all did a wonderful job. It's beautiful!
Your patience and determination in getting it right has certainly paid off. The esthetics is beyond perfection! I admire you patience.
My goodness! You obviously really don't know these two guys if you feel that you need to throw that advice their way!
Watching Eddie and Charlie playing in the river just makes my day!
Dumpy deserves a day at the spa! What a champ he’s been for y’all-every day with no complaints!👏👏👏
Super easy!
@@tylerandtodd That's cool. It just doesn't look like there is enough room to get to them. Good job!
I don’t know what I’m talking about with decks, but I’d build some access panels in the skirting, so I could get in under there if I needed to. 😊
@@diamondstud322 I was thinking the same thing. The space under the deck could then be used for storage as well.
@@tahcobunsJust doesn't pay to assume, does it? 🙄
Best choice going with cedar the deck is beautiful, also the extra work using those camo gadgets was brilliant and it will be worth it in the end. And Dumpy is the man of the year, he’s the best and I look forward to seeing him every week as well. Have a great week 😊
Holy Cow you two Your dedication, drive, faith, and love in everything you do Totally blow me away, not to mention astounding perverance Lord bless you guys Much love from Colorado 🌲💕🕊️
the deck looks amazing!
HEY! Hello Tyler and Todd!!
Hey!!!
Todd’s optimism…a bottomless fountain. Love the love between you two. Best to you, TTCES xoxo.
Hey there Tyler & Todd. Happy Sunday from Ontario. Can't wait to see what you're building now! Take care & Thanks for sharing. ❤😊✨ Elaine
Keep on keepin’ on 👍🏽
The Cameo device is a winter gem!. Weither nails or screws, they always seem to pop up and hit the shovel when chearing off the deck.
Yes, Cedar should last 25 years. I just replaced mine last year, and my house is 27 years old. One thing I DIDN'T do, that I wish I had done the first time, was stain the UNDERSIDE of the deck boards before I put them down. They would have lasted longer.
