How did we end up here?
It all began with a year of full-time travel, embracing the van life until the world shifted, and we had to adjust accordingly. With travel no longer an option but determined to stay productive, we transformed our compact mobile abode into a self-sufficient off-grid dwelling that fulfilled all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of the current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements. For the last two years we've lived in a Geodesic Dome, which has allowed us to be comfortable (expect for the winter months), while we realize our shipping container home dream. However, this will mark our 4th winter with stable electricity, running water, or a flushing toilet and time has come to come up with a new plan going forward.

This has been such a long time coming but we finally did it, the hideous 3M tape has been officially retired 🤣…I’m sure it came across in the video but we’ve been putting in some long construction days lately, who else is excited for the big reveal?! It’s going to feel unbelievable I can hardly wait!
$1 an hour for the scaffolding sounds pretty reasonable, but will add up fast. I'm excited for the big reveal...sometime in the next 2 years. 🤣

Every video you guys put out makes me so much more amazed at your partnership, your work ethic, & your ability to laugh through mistakes. Dumpy is absolutely adorable and I love that he gives as gives as he gets. Tyler, my vertigo was crying for you while you were on that scaffold and I had to close my eyes when you panned down to the ground. *hurl* I'm proud of all three of you for getting that high up on the scaffold and working in the heat. You each deserve a medal.
Tyler, You actually did all those corner pieces using honest to god real siding. I know you are afraid of heights but you seemed to have made some progress conquering that fear. I know what it is like . I was a firefighter and I always was uncomfortable working from ladder trucks.
With the completion of the faux stonework, you no longer have container house, you now have a container castle. It is stunning. Well done !

@@Trishisadish. not sure of the spelling, but starts with a “D”for sure. In one of the vlogs they explained why he had that name. I think it was one of those grandkid things that stuck.

Very impressed with the scaffolding- yeah, it’s not cheap but that is a big enough job to finishing ‘bricking’ the tower without having to worry about physical safety. Such a smart move on your part

First, that siding on the tower looks so awesome. The wood looking siding, and the black and stone siding all look so good together. I want to say congratulations to this achievement. Love for the land and the container house never left!! As Tyler and Todd have explained, contractual issues that they couldn’t discuss with us at the time meant work had to halt. Being the industrious guys they are, they put the work into their cottage until both the weather and legal issues allowed them to start work on the container house again.
Ok I’m not sure if anyone else thinks Todd’s jokes are so fricking funny, but it also kills me that Tyler just shakes his head like he’s listened to it everyday for years so isn’t phased. Actually, it is pretty darn scary how often your contractors have screwed up with errors and poor quality work and let you down. Makes me wonder about the licensing process there. You've had way more than your share of bad luck but have triumphed anyhow. Your home is on track to be stunning!
I think at some point they have to ask themselves what they aren't seeing themselves...is it always someone else's fault?

I have to tell you guys I have been on this journey with you for a couple years now. I have been through some very difficult things in my personal life and watching you two every week has been a beautiful little getaway for me. What you’re doing out in the woods has always been a dream of mine so so I feel like I’m living a little vicariously through you, and loving it!!! I hope you know how much your videos touch some of us, sometimes in profound ways. As I’m getting older, I realize it’s not all the other things we think are important in our youth. Ah, Fall. When summer officially abandons us and our weather goes from sunny 78 to sunny 74 in preparation for a frigid winter of sunny 72. I think we have a couple of indicator trees that make red leaves so we are reminded of seasons.

Not having fruit this year might be a blessing. Look at those skinny branches. My apples are so heavy that they are breaking the skinny branches. Better to wait, and taking the fruit off. Otherwise, you will need to support those branches.

It takes a year for the fruit trees to settle in so you should expect plenty of fruit next year. Give them fertilizer now to boost their growth before Winter. The house is looking great. I wrote the question about the fruit before I saw the rest of the post. lol.

As much as I know how annoying the ant-situation is for you, I do find it amazing that ants can smell their way through what must seem to them to be a mountain of foam to reach the wood ... it's as if they have a super-smell meter ... and, after all, who doesn't prefer a bit of solid wood over yucky foam! You definitely are making progress, though!

Scary up there... For your fruit trees if you want to save the fruits, there are nets available to throw over them that keep the birds and other creatures out. Any plant nursery should have them or be able to direct you. Maybe even Amazon...who knows?

Mount your Starlink on a pole on top of the shipping container house. You need to get it as high, or above the trees, as possible. We had similar issues until we mounted our Starlink on a pole.
