    just a small thing that maybe someone learning to drive a manual might get confused, DO NOT rest your foot on the clutch, you don't need to always have you foot on the clutch unless you're racing. you can rest it on the foot rest to the side of the clutch. by resting on the clutch you can accidentally be slightly engaging it giving wear to the clutch and possibly hurting your engine and transmission.

    • @JohnnyB.
      @JohnnyB.  2 года назад +28

      Yes, great tip. I forgot to mention this🙏🏼 the dead pedal next to the clutch will save your clutch life in the long run! Appreciate you Fernando!!🙌

    I learned to drive a manual with the help of a friend. We went to a vacant parking lot and let me practice using his car with pre-ground gears. I highly recommend learning the neutral to first technique somewhere with no obstacles and nobody to laugh at you when you stall. This takes a lot of pressure off and makes it easier to concentrate on the technique. Great video, gotta love that distinctive 350Z sound!

    I've driven manuals all my life, even trucks, but the 350z was the first car I had trouble with. Great car

    • @Psythik
      @Psythik 6 месяцев назад

      Try driving a Genesis Coupe sometime. The 350Z has a high bite point, but it's still one of the easier clutches I've used because of its consistency. Meanwhile the bite point of the Genesis feels like its in a different place every time. If I could make any complaint about the 350's clutch, the only thing I could say is that it has a much heavier feel than I'd prefer. But that also contributes to its ease of use since the heftiness of it makes it easier to be more precise IMO.

    • @keoni6738
      @keoni6738 4 месяца назад +1

      @@Psythikdo you know if the 350z clutch is easier then a 2014 Subaru WRX STI clutch? My dad owns a Subaru and he taught me how to drive manual transmission using that car. He told me that the Subaru wasn’t very forgiving and that it was a little difficult to learn especially if you’re a beginner manual driver. I can drive manual pretty good, but I’m not perfect and could use a little more practice. But since I was planning on buying a 350z real soon I wanted to know what I was getting myself into in a way and if the clutch was similar to my dads 2014 Subaru STI or if not a little easier

    Turning in Neutral and putting in first gear at speed puts a lot of extra stress. If I am turning and going to slow down a lot I change the gear before I approach the turn clitch out foot on brake and race my way out. If you are putting in first gear when the speed is over a few miles yeah thats a lot of trouble. First gear should be used only when the car is stopped or super slow.

    • @theripper121

    I apologize in advance! This is the car, but is not the car for a 1st timer! It can be fatal learning to drive a RWD with so much torque going to the ground especially at stop lights making 45° turns on wet surfaces. You also can't wait until the you reach the tread depth gauge on the tires. You'll be playing roulette with your Z and your life! Change your tires early!

    just got a 350 and i drove a reg 15 min drive home and stalled 5 times at green lights. my hard thing is def going from neutral to 1st and finding the right amount of gas to give it as im letting go of the clutch

  • @FallenArtemie
    @FallenArtemie Год назад +3

    I just bought a 350z and it's so different from a MX-5 and GTI. The clutch feels light but has a higher bite point and the pedal travels almost completely horizontally so I had trouble actually finding the bite at first and stalled. But with this engine I also found that I had to basically give it 1.5k revs immediately as the clutch hits the bite point or it stalls because the idle 800 revs is not enough to have the car crawl, which was so different from the other two manuals cars I've owned. I usually let the car crawl and then give it gas once I feel the clutch let off, but the Z needs gas even before and so I'm having to relearn how to drive to get that timing right. But I feel way more smoother in shifting after the car is going than in the GTI.

    • @JohnnyB.
      @JohnnyB.  Год назад

      Great point and observation you’ve made with the clutch feel in the 350z. I too have a Miata and it’s such an easier car to drive; I’ve taught most of my friends how to drive manual in it and within 5-10 minutes they are pulling away from stopped without stalling! The 350z is definitely more sensitive to the gas pedal. Even switching between my 06 and 07, they clutch master cylinder is a different design and even that little difference changes the bite point even more! Once you get a hang of it though, it feels great! Really appreciate your comment my friend🙏🏼 thanks for tuning in (:

    It isn't going to be "2nd nature" after a few days. Your probably going to struggle a bit and be uncomfortable, particularly in traffic, for the first month or two. You're going to stall a lot, your going to struggle with fast starts and be jerky on your takeoffs, your going to struggle with rev matching, your probably going to miss shifts and grind some gears, your going to be super uncomfortable on hills, your shifts are going to be clunky, you're going to have to learn how to smoothly find the right gear when traffic slows and speeds up unexpectedly, etc.
    I think it was probably 3-4k miles before I really felt comfortable with a manual to the point I'd consider it 2nd nature.
    Lets set realistic expectations for new drivers.

    • @JohnnyB.

    • @JohnnyB.
      @JohnnyB.  2 года назад +1

      The 2007 Nissan 350z has the VQ35HR engine, when 03-06 has the VQ35DE (some being the VQ35DE Rev-Up). 2007, HR motor is more reinforced and handles boost better than the DE's, but people still boost DE's lol Also, people have found the 2006 manual cars to burn a bit more oil, which was solved in 2007-2008. Small changes between them, but overall the same! :) Also, taillight and headlight facelift happened in 2006!

    Dumb question. But when I am in traffic can’t I just have the brake in instead of neutral and ebrake? Or will I still roll?

    Don’t know if you’ll see this but when u shift gears do you let go of the accelerator or can you still have your foot on it

    • @JohnnyB.
      @JohnnyB.  Год назад

      You should let off the gas in between shifts! There is a way to keep your foot in it though, it’s called flat-foot shifting, but it’s more for racing and I’m not good at it haha definitely safer to just take your foot off the pedal in between shifts (: appreciate your comment!!

    Ok so unlocking the power of the car is just changes the gears at a high revolution RPM example 2nd usually will be 3.5 RPM but I could get it up to 7. RPM is I want more power? Do I get that right?

      thats it for gears, max rpm in the highest gear is the fastest the car will go

    Do I have to gas it a little when I’m downshifting .? Or no .?

    • @Key-z2x
      @Key-z2x 6 месяцев назад

      every time, otherwise it wont be a smooth downshift. You always need to give it enough gas to match the rpms that the engine would be at the gear you wanna be relative to your speed. When downshifting when you first start driving manual rev your engine up around where you think you should be and let the clutch out slowly, (not super slow) that will help you out in case you didnt set out the rpms correctly 100%. Once you become a pro at driving a manual transmission you can set the rpms and instantly release the clutch as quick as possible. (Typically you never do this casual driving but if you''re racing other people then you do this...)
