No, she wasn't! Shanice and Janet were on the same label in the 80s, and due to some similarities, people accused her of copying Janet. But if you listen to her debut and subsequent albums, you will see she was totally different.

@@Saysonow no She was called the Minnie version of Janet. The only thing Janet copy from her was the hairdo if you go back and look at the story on what happened. At the end of Shanice song I love your smile you can hear Janet laughing at the end of it.

@@maxday1000 I did see a recent interview in which Shanice addressed the issue. She said she was only 14 at the time and simply sang what the producer gave her to sing. So that was the doing of A&M. But other singers were also making music like Janet because that was the popular sound at the time. But her 90s albums did not sound like Janet's. Also, Shanice said some years ago that Janet didn't laugh on her song.
