I have a feeling that this lady that sent this to you probably thought the same thing you did about kindred spirit… And just like the majority of comments here I agree that this went to the right person…. It’s an amazing piece of history, and a great story that still being wrote.
What an incredible treasure trove. The poster is the art from issue 2 of the POTA Marvel mag and Aussie Newton comics reprint. I grew up in Australia as an Apes obsessed kid and don’t recall ever seeing that awesome smock. Such cool art!
Can we take a minute and say a personal prayer for this person? He was a brother and shared the passion for this stuff as we all do. If I’d known him as kids I’m sure we would’ve been best friends. RIP, brother.
the new films have a charm to them but part of what I lament in the transition from classic apes to the modern apes franchise is exactly this. the old school fandom and the heart that came with it is completely absent. thank you for making this video it brought me a smile.
@@BrickMantooth it happened to trek as well I think. when you suck the earnest goofiness out of these franchises you suck the heart out with it. regardless atleast we can always appreciate little time capsules like this.
I'm glad you got this your the perfect person to be the Curator.. so so interesting and cool back then it was more special and something to get into more Creativity not like nowi love stuff like this...🐵🐒🐎 oh the tv show is till really cool to watch because we dont get stuff like this no more it's very refreshing to watch now.
That really is amazing. For the Halloween costume, I think it probably would have come with a cheap plastic mask originally; back in the 60's and 70's that's mainly what we wore in terms of a store-bought suit. That poster wasn't on the cover of the Marvel 70's magazine, but it's unmistakably the work of their artists. The style is right on-point. I would love to see that in person!
This is the best thing I've watched on RUclips in a long time. The POTA TV Show was a big part of my childhood and I, too, have a ton of memorabilia from it. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you for this. I was then and am still now a huge Ape fan. In the mid 1970s, I drew pictures, wrote and typed stories, compiled a timeline, etc. and I collected what few Ape coloring books, novel, and toys I could afford. I saw myself in the charming collection of assorted cherished items that you can literally sense were so important to the collector from down under. Such a great video made clearly with reverence for such collections which are left behind when older collectors suddenly leave their bodies behind. I found myself quite misty when at 12:24 you so eloquently stated, "I'm going to be the caretaker of this until... someone else is a caretaker of my stuff." Thanks again!
Yes the kindred spirit vibe. It was meant to be. Karma! I salute you and thank you to the original collector. RIP fellow Planet of the Apes fan, we salute you!
A time capsule indeed! I can practically smell the polyester and shag carpeting of the mid-1970s! Quite the find! And quite the story of it's journey to get to you! Thank you very much for sharing, Brian! Hopefully, these monkeys aren't cursed or anything! Lol!
That's so awesome. Congratulations. I started fanzines for Star Wars and Willow but I never drummed up many interested fans. Willow only went one issue back in '88 as the film premiered.
Marvellous score, Brian! Really delightful stuff. Does that smock have any tags at all on the inside? There were a bunch of 'play costume' type things sold outside of the show bag stuff that it looks like to me. Haha, it looks too nicely made to be a show bag piece.
Pre star wars we were POTA crazy, my grandparents owned a Newsagents and every time they visited my parents we got loads of the Topps trading card packs
Yes that is from the planet of the apes magazine. I have all of them and that's one of the covers. I'm not exactly sure which issue but that is definitely one
Well there you go, people have been campaigning for cancelled shows a long time before Firefly heh. Did some fandom magazine collage style custom pieces here and there growing up but nothing this elaborate. Not a big card collector either but have a full set of '89 Batman. For me what stands out most is the costume piece because that stuff perishes more than anything else, maybe because Halloween is more of a NA holiday it didn't get used up idk?

i'm hoping for closure on that smock.

Oh man, I can't think of a better person to be the curator of a collection such as this, just you Brian.
thank you!

You have an interesting point, some of the fun got boiled out when they tried to take it seriously.

Great collection to have. What are the odds of you taking the pota inserts in your magazine and doing an all exclusive pota only issue ?
I'd like to honour it in some way.
I remember Galen and when he teamed up with Starsky and Hutch 😂 but where was Huggy 🐻 😂?
I hope that is chronologically wrong 😂😃😅😄😁🤣
The trading cards are so boring and ugly.
