I really enjoyed this video. It inspired me to purchase the game. Thanks.
Man, great that you are doing what you like, but how I missed the Rules end Review Format. The, usually, duration of around 30 minutes was the sweet spot for me, and it was a real pleasure to hear you opinion about the games, the overall care with which you seemed to produce the video, the insightful comments. As I said before , I'm really Happy for you, it must be awesome to do what you enjoy.
All the best.
I'm sorry I'm not making that content you enjoyed so much anymore. In general though I feel like I have taught almost all of most games by the 12 minute mark of a playthrough and by that point I feel like people will likely have a better idea of how it actually plays than if I had just done a rules overview.
Great video, Jon! I love how your playthroughs have evolved over time - all of the changes you've made seem to make sense and make your vids better.
1:51:11 minor, unimportant error: it's not Gandhi whom is replaced by Lennon.
Don't worry about the final scores not being close, the game seems to suffer from a runaway leader problem a bit and has a huge fallaway loser problem - when you don't (or are unable to) get defence early on.
Personally I love the feel of the game, but it wouldn't suit my gaming group, is too luck-based for such a long game and it has a few problems.
I like the iconography on the deluxe version much more than the regular one. The regular one doesn't have the back of card reminder to scrap market cards that are 2 ages old. Also, the end of the game scoring (and especially the don't do end of game scoring) symbols are much harder to read and differentiate.
Great play through! One minor mistake @1:50:27 green player should have 2 investment bonus instead of 1, you omitted the icon on the orange card
@12:35 it the greek letter omega.
You don't get resources from icons on the card you're taking.
Another great video Jon! Unfortunately, I think you misplayed the Investment bonuses a few times. The icon on the card you are gaining does not count towards the investment bonus (pg. 13, Complete step #3)
Nathan Mott Dang, my reading of that part of the rule was that the magnifying glass itself wasn’t an icon, but that the icons down below were fine. It does say “except on this card” though, so it looks like you are right. I’ll try to get corrective subtitles in to fix this, thanks for pointing it out.
I do find that rule to be a bit confusing, especially when teaching. I wonder if the game is balanced enough if it is played as you did and just let the card count itself in both cases: investor bonus and active abilities.
I wonder the same thing. I feel like it is also a bit of a rulebook issue because they should have used a card that has a matching investor bonus and symbol in the example so that it would highlight this rule. Oh well, the text is pretty clear, I just misinterpreted it.
I initially misread this rule, too, but going back and looking at steps 3 and 4 for the Complete action (page 13) makes it clear. Step 3 says to check the icons in your nation, but it's not until Step 4 that you add the new card to your nation.
Enjoyed the video, but have a question about the final scoring. At around 1:58:00 wouldn't blue also score their government card receiving 5 more points? It doesn't change the outcome, but makes it a bit closer.
Wow yes! I feel silly having missed this entirely, they should have had 5 more points at the end. I've added a note to the video, thanks for pointing this out.
Interesting game. Somehow combines a feel from Innovation with Deus. Not keen on the art work and it concerns me that the winner was likely to be green over the last few turns, which kind of makes the end game a letdown for the other players.
There's mistake when adding points for green player - 32, not 28 (you'd called everything right, but it looks like you had not added 4 points for last wonder)
I just watched it again, it appears they have: 5vp from culture icons + 12vp from other icons + 3vp for Pyramid + 4vp for Taj Mahal + 4vp for Eiffel Tower = 28. Am I missing something?
Sorry, everything's fine, it look like I've count Taj Mahal 4vp for set instead of 2vp for set. =)
