One of Rogue's best designs. it's funny how Rogue can play different personalities, upbeat(90's), recluse(Evolution) and in-between (movie). Honestly she is one of my favorite X-Men and I'm glad she is getting more love then ever.
I wouldn´t say movie Rogue was an in-between, more like a prototype of what evolution rogue would be in the series, a more accurate blend of goth and upbeat rogue would be wolverine and the x-men version, she was very angsty but also sassy and honestly, girl got shit done in that show, very underrated version
I agree, Rogue can be pretty malleable, and not all comic heroes can get away with that. Hallmark of a great character. Batman for example, can be played a lot of different ways too.
When I was a teen, everyone always talked about how the first girls that gave them that gothic awakening were either Sam, Sheego, or Raven. But for me? Nah. Rogue and Wanda from X-Men: Evolution were the ones that got me.
Don't forget Jinx and Blackfire from Teen Titans, Mai and June from Avatar, Gwen from TDI, Ingrid from Fillmore, and of course, the Hex Girls. Us early 2000s kids were eatin' good in the neighborhood.
Definitely. I was already into Goth girls thanks to Beetlejuice movie, Rogue was already my favorite X Men, so when Evolutions combined the two, I instantly liked Goth Rogue.
Rogue is an amazing character. They really went to town with her. Iconic moments like the whole episode with her dealing with all her absorbed memories, as well as her absorbing Juggernaut's powers and absolutely destroying him This show makes the X-Men feel like home. It's so comfy and cozy. It makes me care for all of them dearly. I love this show I can't wait for the Kitty video as she's also up there with Rogue for my favorite characters in this show.
I remember watching that one episode where Mystique was turned into stone and Nightcrawler took the emotional high ground and decided to forgive Mystique for being a selfish-dismissive mother, and then Rogue just decided to push it off a cliff out of spite. That really shocked me initially. Part of me feels like from a story perspective that Mystique should've "stayed dead" because when she came back with upgraded powers, the story lost a little luster for me. X-Men Evolution is still underrated though.
That scene really screwed me up when I first saw it because I fully expected Rogue to simply release Mystique from her stone prison, only to push her off the balcony, resulting in the statue shattering. I do agree (kinda) that Mystique probably should have remained dead as when she was brought back… she was a little underutilized, imo. Though it was cool to see her as one of Apocalypse’s horseman.
On rewatch, her coming back with an upgrade happens after the asteroid M style arc in the first season, she's turned to stone in the end of season three, and the smashing happens a few episodes into four. She stays out of it for nearly the whole fourth season until only being brought back after apocalypse in the finale. It seems justified.
This series actually presented Rogue's ability as 10x more powerful/potent than in the comics cause by the final season she displayed the ability to recall powers she had previously absorbed. At some point she would have got the flight/super strength upgrade per the vision Xavier has in the finale too!
Marvel: Let’s make a show that appeals to kids by taking popular superheroes, turning them into teenagers and putting them in high school. @@kimeraclan3135 I mean, 90s Spider-Man didn’t get an ending (like so many other good shows) so when Disney/Marvel is riding the nostalgia train, hoping for at least a 1-season revival to wrap up loose ends is only natural. Mystique actually overheard Scott and Jean talking about the simulation as they got ready for their field trip. Scott was upset about Professor X using Rogue for the simulation because he didn't like the idea of treating her like an enemy, so he didn't let that go even after going to school.
I'm no expert on comics Rogue, so i can't comment on it. My intro to her was the 90s animated version and naturally later the movies and evolution. What I would say is that I couldn't put either on a pedestal. 90s Rogue was introduced as an adult (of undetermined age) who, despite some flashbacks to her rough upbringing and power anxiety, seems fairly well adjusted to her role within the x-men. Goth Rogue, on the other hand, shows her struggle as a teenager coming to terms with it all, albeit with a more '00 skin. Both are great. I think movie Rogue suffers as she worked as an integral part of the first film, giving Logan a cub to protect and being a literal bomb. But as things got bigger, they struggled to really give her a role that let her shine.
Both are great works because Rogue's introduction in the comics is her, as a teen, *permanently* taking Captain Marvel's powers and memories. With that, she's a teenager with the mind of an adult fighting for control, and the writers love to work that angle of her personality.
@enriquejoseantequerasanche6180 so just as shown in her flashback on the 90s show? I'd honestly forgot about that until you mentioned it. Good to know, thanks 👍

I didn't know that about the dance being pulled from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That's pretty cool. And I agree, it's the smoothest animation of the entire show. Rogue started as a villain in the comics, but none of the adaptations did that, so this show starting her in a more antagonistic light really made it stand out and I loved it. They never go full heel, but just playing with her allegiances was interesting enough. The first year of the show feels mostly random and episodic (it improves greatly from S2 onward, imo), but the closest thing they had to a focused story was Rogue's arc and it was a great hook for the first season. On the point with Blob, it seemed to me the reason Rogue helped Jean was because it mattered to Scott, whom she has feelings for. We used to traditionally see Logan do this sort of thing, saving Scott because it mattered to Jean, so this love triangle is almost a substitute of The Wolverine/Cyclops/Jean love triangle, which the show couldn't do this time for obvious reasons.
Rogue with the long wild hair after absorbing Sabertooth’s powers is something I completely forgot about and now I need it again. Also I think the episode that cliched everything for me regarding Evolution Rogue was in a later season episode (I want to say season 3?) when her powers went, well, rogue and she started having a mental breakdown and Wolverine went into dad mode and talked her down, and whatever insecurities she had left she made peace with.
What they made different with Rogue is that they have her crushing on & developing feelings for X-Man leader Scott Summers who is very much in love with Jean.

Southern goth girls are built different. I live in Biloxi Mississippi and there’s this one Elder goth lady that wears Edwardian dresses in the middle of August saw her waiting for the bus on the beach one day drove past her and my passenger and I were like 🤯
I watched portions of X-men tas but didn’t take it seriously but I had more interest in X-men evolution and it was my official introduction to rogue and this version of her is my down right favorite version of her. Love it
My biggest gripe about Evolution and Rogue is that they didn't fully made her and Cyclops a thing. They've teased us in all seasons and nothing came out of it and it's a such a shame cause it hands down the best version of Cyclops to date and him Rogue being together in the series would be match made in heaven, but alas.
That was going to happen eventually before the show was cancelled. They were going to do the Dark Phoenix Saga which would end with Jean being killed off permanently. Her death would then cause the team to split up (similarly to what happened in Wolverine and the X-Men) and once they reunited in the final season, Scott and Rogue would possibly have officially gotten together. There was even an idea being kicked around by the writers to have a wedding in the series finale either between Scott and Rogue or Kurt and Amanda.
This was a great analysis on my favourite version of Rouge. I am so hyped for the next video analyzing the characters. Also unlike some of the others in this comment section I will be respectful about my attraction to rouge. I had loved her when I was younger (along with Raven from teen Titans but that’s another thing) I still love her character so much and I agree she is the definitive version for me.

I really love how they dove into her relationship with Kurt in this series--though I do wish Gambit had been featured more and Rogue/Scott was never thought of.
Why? Cyclops was so well done in this series that the coupling made sense. Makes me wonder why no one tried it in the comics instead of the Rogue/Magneto nonsense
@@ShadowSonic2 Because this is the one show where Jean/Scott wasn't toxic and felt healthy. Plus it wasn't set up well; Rogue had feelings for Scott, but it's never shown that he saw her that way.
@@OpticalSorcerer I think the idea is that Cyclops would've eventually realized his infatuation with Jean was more of an adolescent thing after she dies and as an adult he understands what he and Rogue could have together more. And Rogue herself needed to go through some growing up too
@@ShadowSonic2 Kinda disappointing. Even if this wasn't the only show where they felt healthy, Jean/Scott was a buildup of 3 seasons, and Rogue moved on from him eventually. Dragging it back to Rogue/Scott feels like a step back, especially since Rogue and Gambit started to have chemistry after "Cajun Spice" (not a lot, but something).
Man listen goth rogue and southern country rogue want to make me act unwise. However it’s good to see X-men evolution get some recognition again. They did show add the ends of season a glimpse of Phoenix force Jean and adult X-men evolution characters. X-men 97 was a success so if this show got a revamp it would be cool
Self Possesed is still one of my favorite Rogue centered episodes of this show! It’s a frighteningly good and scary look at what would happen if Rogue lost control over her powers and all the personalities and powers of those she absorbed where literally fighting for control of her
Personally, this show's writing choices continually amaze! Wolverine taking break from love triangle duty? Cylops and jean are interesting, and scott pulls rogue too?
I re watcht X-Men evolution last year, after like 10+ years, it was also the first time i probleply watcht all the episodes from start to finnish, and thoug this watch thoug Rouge became my favorite charekter, of that Series, and thank you fore talking about this show, not enough people do that nowadays, its so underrated. PS: by the way this is also my favorite X-men Series.
Rogue became my favorite X-Men from the time she was brought into the Team. She joined the Team because she was losing her mind due to her powers, and Mystique couldn't/wouldn't help her. She turned to Professor X and the X-Men, begging for help. I remember her sitting in a chair, looking so small and vulnerable. I think the Rogue from "X-Men Evolution" is the best interpretation of the character. I like the goth look, and the way her character was portrayed there. In some ways, she reminds me of Shrinking Violet (a member of The Legion of Super-Heroes), who was extremely shy that isolated her from the other members.
I'm glad evolution the original cartoon and 97 all keep that sibling like relationship between rogue and nightcrawler, because cannonly in the comics they are step siblings rogue having been adopted by mystique
Evolution Rogue is not my definitive version of her for sure, but is EASILY in my top 3 best versions of Rogue in ANY MEDIA....I actually like her more in this show that in the comics (as for any great story with Rogue there is a dozen crappy ones in the comics), Evo Rogue was amazing, I love her look and attitude and despite she never could get her Miss Marvel powers, still she was one of the strongest X-Men in this show. In case you wonder my number 1 Rogue is X-Men TAS and 97, is difficult to top that, Evo is my second and third is Rogue of Wolverine and the X-men, then comics and then last place is Movie Rogue.
This was the X-men I grew up with and this was the rouge I knew. When I found out she was southern I actually had to step back for a second as the character I thought I knew was completely different

I watched portions of X-men tas but didn’t take it seriously but I had more interest in X-men evolution and it was my official introduction to rogue and this version of her is my down right favorite version of her. Love it
"X-Men: Evolution", "Teen Titans" and "Avatar" were my absolute favourite shows as a kid.
Found this on my recommendation, I deadass read that thumbnail word as "Goth Rogue is freak" and thought: "You ain't wrong, pal"
💀💀💀
@@VenxousI really like that version of Rogue she’s one of my cartoon crushes
I like the idea of Anna Marie being Goth but had a pretty southerner Accent
Goth Rogue was one of the best.
Are you goth Rogue fan and x men evolution? Sorry for asking this question.
@@Universeknight10055 yes i used to watch xmen evolution on tv as a kid i loved it, it was like marvel version of teen titans end i liked the characters better than in the movies only wolverine i liked in the movies Thanks for asking sorry i took this long to respond 👍👍
@@MatheusB.SdeFreitas-sn3pj good evening. Thank you for answering my question. I'm fan of Goth Rogue and x men evolution series and x men the animated series 90's. You have great day and next day and week and weekend and next week and full happiness 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊.
@@MatheusB.SdeFreitas-sn3pjno worries.
I'm a simple man. I see an essay on one of my biggest childhood crushes, I click.
Hell yeah! The best female X-man getting recognition is always something I love to see
1:04 "boys her own age"
*enters Magneto*
Sigh...Gambit deserved better
Please don’t remind me of that relationship
@@Venxous haha my apologies 😂
My favorite episodes with Rogue involved her chemistry with Nightcrawler; after she learned that Mystique was his real birth mother.
Self Possesed is still one of my favorite Rogue centered episodes of this show! It’s a frighteningly good and scary look at what would happen if Rogue lost control over her powers and all the personalities and powers of those she absorbed where literally fighting for control of her
Y’all forget when rogue joined the xmen in the comics she was full punk PUNK ROGUE IS TOP TIER!
Goth Rogue in this show and the Grant Morrison New X-Men costumes should have been what was in the original live action X-Men trilogy
Rogue from Evolution and TAS(92) are the reasons why I have a thing for American women with a southern accent.
I'm glad evolution the original cartoon and 97 all keep that sibling like relationship between rogue and nightcrawler, because cannonly in the comics they are step siblings rogue having been adopted by mystique
X-Men Evolution was my introduction to the x-men world, what an amazing memories
as a 23 year old i just got flashbanged with core memories.
Hey, congrats on winning that fight against Toad, you won a prize! Kidnapping and experimentation!
PRAISE THE GREAT VENXOUS FOR PROVIDING US THIS BOUNTY
Kitty is Buffy Rogue is Faith.
finally, the voice of my generation
Ngl goth rogue awakened something in me as a kid
I grew up with this series
This was the X-men I grew up with and this was the rouge I knew. When I found out she was southern I actually had to step back for a second as the character I thought I knew was completely different
I had no idea there was more seasons! I need to watch those
Thank you for doing a video about Evolution Rogue. This show doesn't get talked about enough and I would love to see some more videos on this version of the characters.
The farmers daughter southern style rouge will always be the best.
Top tier version of Rogue for sure
Are you goth Rogue fan and x men evolution series fan? Sorry for asking this question.
I loved x men evolution its my favorite of the x men franchise. I loved this version of rogur its a shame it didnt have more seasons. New sub heading ur way.
Unrelated, really like you're editing! It's simple, yet a unique way to show scenes while avoiding copyright. GG! :)
I am a simple man I see x men evolution rouge I click instantly
GOTH ROGUE SIMPS UNITE!
bro same. rouge was always my favorite character.
Are you goth Rogue fan and x men evolution series? Sorry for asking this question.
And then all the peoples powers she absorbed all came back in season 3 and we're somewhat taking her over as she was cycling through EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
This is the only version of Rouge that felt focused except early comic Rouge
If the show continued Cyclops and Rouge would be a couple.
This is a nice evaluation of items.
This show was great. It deserved more seasons.
Yeah that first meeting with Wolverine was a less than ideal encounter lol. He comes across as a psycho.
Haven’t watched this yet but that one episode with all the women and they changed in the car off camera. Thought about that for years.
I find it funny how in evolutions there supposed to be high schoolers but Logan’s still like 400
He was born in the 1800's, so not 400. And Logan is an adult.
@@vetarlittorf1807 thanks for the correction but also I knew he was an adult I just thought it was funny
@@JacksonChadwick I dunno. I always liked the idea of Logan and Storm acting as the "parents" of the team.
@@vetarlittorf1807 yeah I like that too though I mainly like Logan as like a lone wolf butting heads with Cyclops while still being cool with everyone and kicking ass with the team
Imagine if they had been able to adapt the Dark Phoenix storyline. And they were only able to stop the Phoenix by using Rogues powers to take her out
2000s is actually now hype and making a comeback not dated
Another brilliant review 👏🏾

Good video! That's not Toads introduction to the series! He shows up in episode one where you get his whole deal right away. He's like the second mutant you meet in the series even.
I meant in this video lol but yeah you’re right
Turning the main characters into teenagers to appeal to kids works in supehero media when done correctly key example iron man armored adventures and batman beyond It does make sense to make the x-men teenagers because they already teach kids at the Xavier institute and most of the x-men started out as teenagers
4:04 She stays "I stab German(the language)." Bad language coaching for that episode.
This version of Rogue is my favorite other than the original from Original X-Men tv show.
10:24 holy fuck i never noticed rogue calls toad ‘swamp rat’ in this show. i’m offended on remy’s behalf! that’s *his* derogatory nickname from his chère 😂
Rogue is an Empath the most relatable character
