I quit Instagram, Snapchat, and all the other pacifiers back in 2018, one of the best decisions I took that year. One more was knowing about The Minimalists, and minimalism in general.
Joshua is on fire here. A hammer that follows you around - that really is how I feel about my phone. Also how we recognize the TV as an attention killer, but haven't yet collectively realized that about smartphones -- this explains a lot about where we're at as a culture.
The Social Dilemma was so scary to watch, a real life horror movie. We get manipulated of wanting more likes, more comments, where are opinions go and how they are formed.
Wow! I’m so new to minimalism, & so far from living it, that this topic produced some anxiety in me. I wanted to turn it off & run, but I think I’ll work towards living like that.
I use my phone as a tool as well, I still have my social media because I like to be caught up with people that I follow. I only follow intentionally- only having people I actually need on Social Media. On my home page, I only have my productivity apps that help me succeed with tasks.
I got rid of everything but RUclips and TikTok. They’ve been so valuable to me in my learning and healing process. I had no intention on having TikTok but I found great therapy advice & comedy in it. I still monitor my usage though so I understand.
I have no problem with Facebook as I cut it off for two years ( after daily logging in since 2010) I had it back for two months this year and deleted it again when I discovered that only few people- very very few- were considerate and thoughtful before commenting, not just on trivia but also on scientific and political topics.
Is RUclips social media? I am currently in my second break this year from fb and life is so great. I do miss some of the interaction though, so I do like the idea of having fb on a computer but not the phone.
Ok so your analysis about the negative impact that social media has on us is good. But the video didn't actually showed how you can use social media as a tool, which disappointed me because the title made me think that was the goal of the video.

Literally got off social media after watching the social dilemma!
Well done! 💪

Just listened to the podcast...when you said to cut social media off your phone it reminded me of Marsha Brady being told to cut her hair! LOL
I really appreciate the content!

RUclips is social media, based on videos sharing.
I see RUclips as more of a search engine.
Great video!
