I kinda agree Ironworkers are rare breed they should be paid like professional athletes...it's a job I wish I had the balls n guts to do but I just know I'm better off on the shop floor
I'm sorry but I make 50 and hour as a computer technician. You couldn't pay me enough to balance hundreds of feetin the air. Work smarter, not harder, I think that's what the younger generation has been thinking. It's unfortunate that they need people, but honestly, this job should be making 75 plus an hour, dudes are risking their lives for a paycheck.
Its because its Orlando, northeast has highest pay, NY, NJ, Chicago, Boston. I'm out of Boston's Local 7 and the full package is about $92/hr, not bad for skipping college and all the debt.

Its not that its hard to get in its that its hard to become an apprentice you have to pass certain test then you interview. I've been trying to get in as an apprentice and its extremely competitive to be an Ironworker where I live. There making it sound like that know one is trying to get in. This goes for all trades. Its really hard to get in as apprentice for most trades where I live. There will never be a storage of guys wanting to get in and learn a trade and be apart of the union brotherhood. The unions have to stop only taking 5 people in and open it up more to taking and training people up

Right I agree, in an iron worker in Houston area. I’ve looked into the ironworker unions here and they start off at less than I make. Nobody wants to take a huge pay cut just to eventually make more. Jumping through hoops just to get into a union that will pay $33 as a journeyman doesn’t sound all that great. Of course they can’t find young people to do iron work, it doesn’t pay good

My grandpa was an iron worker for Philly an im thinking of being an iron worker for the benefits an I don’t wanna go to college but I’ll go to an apprenticeship
the trades, the apprenticeships do not pay enough in comparison with todays markets. Why would anyone want to be treated like crap, looked down upon, have to work outside in the elements hot or cold. Never having actual restroom facilities onsite. Using portapottys. Few ways to wash hands and be sanitary. Being up and on the road before sunrise and not getting home til dark. The amount of driving that is often required. I can keep going. Now you can get a job in gas stations or fast food starting over $20 an hour. And you get indoor plumbing hot water nice break areas to clean up and enjoy your meals in a sanitary environment
UK steel erector here we have a similar situation with new blood coming through but i must say our money is alot better and ive noticed US ironworkers do alot more multi trades then we do eg i just put steel up no welding nothing else but you guys do steel,welding,fabricating so your pay should be $50 an hour before benefits!

I guess those Fla. IWs are OK with that low pay scale averaging 55-60K per year range. For that work those southern state IWs deserve way more and should be getting same as northern, northeast, west coast locals are getting- about twice as much or more. I retired from a west coast IW local in 2005 was making more per yr. back then than Fla. is in 2024

They won’t be able to take place in the up and coming policy incentives being given by the government to corporations who choose to keep production in the USA. Businesses love free $$$ especially when it comes with incentives like being labeled an “American Made” brand

You don't get people to show you *any* loyalty or hear you out by berating them like that. There are *a lot* of ways to make money let alone ways that actually involve on-site employers. Give young guys a reason to care about you in a way that satisfies them instead of satisfying the boss, otherwise you're objectively wasting your time.
