La Plata Rail Days 2023 -- FAST westbound Z train at about 7 pm

- Taken during the "unofficial" La Plata (MO) Rail Days on June 22nd, this was the second train we saw roar through after driving in. Not surprisingly, it was another Z train -- highest priority intermodal -- which are common here on BNSF Railway's southern transcontinental route (Chicago to L.A.) Max speed for these trains is a mighty 70 mph, which is far faster than anything I can see back in Northeast Georgia.

I have a bucket list of things I want to do and going to la plata is definitely on it.
It's a great place to railfan. Book a room at the Depot Inn if possible; it is close to the Amtrak station and walkable to the RR Lookout platform. The hotel has a great display of RR memorabilia also.
You won't regret it, I definitely recommend it...I went last summer and I want to return this year. I have a full playlist of what I shot on a full 3 day weekend on my channel if you'd like to take a look :)

This is La Plata, Missouri. It is between Chicago and Kansas City on BNSF Railway's southern transcontinental route, which sees around 60 trains per day including Amtrak's Southwest Chief.

I wouldn't stand that close. If it derails that station and people in it are gone.
If ANY train derails at track-speed, the entire area and any citizens are gone. It wouldn't matter if we were 20 feet away or 200, really.
