FYI - Layne and Geoff are childhood friends and often pull stunts with each other. Watch VoicePlay's Little Mermaid Medley (You'll have a seizure over Geoff's run - D5 to D2 and drop to subharmonic D1 in seconds). Layne painted Geoff blue as Ursula and the two (they are both tall) are seated (as usual) and Layne is trying to crack Geoff up. Layne sings the short song of the crazy cook in the movie, and it's hysterical. Eli doubles as Flounder and the seagull (another humor moment). J None (now in the US Navy), did Oscar-winning Under the Sea part of the medley with a slight reggae twist.

Like somebody posted under the original video:
Layne: "Hey Geoff, I have an idea for the bass line. How long could you hold a subharmonic F1?"
    Geoff: "Yes."
They are all very creative and wild. You really don't know what to expect next!
And those harmonies, it's so awesome!
Names! Names! as shown @ 5:45 from left to right: Geoff, Eli, Jose Rosario (x1 collab), J None (just left to join Navy Band) and Layne Stein (not Zero, lol).
VP just hired Cesar de la Rosa to cover J None's spot. Wanna know about him? Watch "If I Were a Rich Man / Girl" or "Butter" or "We're Good".
See you next VP or HF time!

The Gjallarhorn (Old Norse “Resounding Horn”) is one of the most prized treasures of the gods. Heimdall, the gods’ ever-vigilant sentry, keeps watch over their celestial stronghold Asgard day and night with the Gjallarhorn in his hand. During Ragnarok, the final battle in which the cosmos will be destroyed, the giants will march upon Asgard.
    Geoff is a human Gjallarhorn.

We call it 'Dragon Breath" The best thing about this video is that they keep you on the edge of your seat while singing the same words for each verse, but presenting every possible harmonic, tempo, and technique variation for each repeat of the verse. 10 backward hats indeed!! Great reaction. Every thing they do is the complete package. They, along with Home Free and Pentatonix take a cappella to the mountain top with their various unique styles.

  • @dalebuck7168

The big guy is Jose Rosario (the guest singer) who was on broadway in Hamilton. The black guy is J-none, and Zero is Layne, who is the fantastic beatboxer and the arranger of most of Voiceplay's stuff. J-none is a baritone with a 4+ octave range. Eli is the tenor and also can sing baritone....Hell they can all sing anything except maybe Geoff's sub-harmonic crap.

  • @TheRealSchmom
    @TheRealSchmom 3 года назад +18

    Zero = Layne Stein 🤣
Two Quick examples to explain Geoff's low notes:
The "Carry On Wayward Son" low note is just a very deep chest Note by him (G1)
The "Oogie Boogie" end Note or the one in this Video, which you described as "Hungarian Throat Singing", is actually a Bass Singing technique called "Subharmonics". It's hard to do and needs months or years of practice. He explains how to do this on his channel (like you already said)
P.S. You should watch their "Little Mermaid Medley" and their newest Video "If I were a rich man/girl" 😉

Awesome reaction as always guys! Yes, Geoff is the human foghorn as Tim is the human dragon's breath. It's insane how these guys can drop into that lower register with seemingly no effort. I've noticed that when Geoff is about to go subharmonic he holds his hands like he's holding a basketball & when Tim does it, it's usually his right hand like he's holding something down. If I am not mistaken, I think that is one of the "visualization tricks" that Tim had helped G with. It would be AWESOME if Geoff (or Tim even) would do an interview with y'all. Geoff does them a lot. Just a thought. Pretty sure that y'all would lose yer minds. He's a pretty great guy from what I've seen.

10/10 guys. Love your stuff. And yeah, VoicePlay is just off the chart on their theatricality, and they always have a great big smile on their faces as they do it. They are happy about it all, they are enthusiastic about it all, and that sets us up to enjoy the living daylights out of their stuff.
Now, I'm going to recommend someone out of left-field. Jonathan Young is one of my favorite singers on RUclips. He does a lot of hard rock and heavy metal covers of songs, along with getting more into original work these days. His original song Land of the Living is a blast. When it comes to his covers, I think a good spot to come in would be his cover of Hellfire from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, possibly followed by his collab of The Bells of Notre Dame with Caleb Hyles. Though, I'm really impressed with his take on In the Dark of the Night from Anastasia. The original song is just... SO goofy, and he sells it pretty hard.

Can you react to Home Free Hillbilly Bone, Home Free Butts Remix or Home Free All About That Bass. I love your reactions and think these will show you a different side of Home Free. Thanks.

    From left to right:
    Geoff Castellucci (bass)
    Eli Jacobson (tenor)
    Jose Rosario Jr (guest)
    J. None (baritone/he just left to the Navy)
Layne Stein (beatboxer/baritone/Zero I guess/arranger of this song and of most of their covers)
If you check out Geoff's channel I'd start with Sixteen Tons or Misty Mountains.
My recommendations are The Little Mermaid Medley, the Moana medley, Queen in 5 minutes, Billie Eilish in 3 minutes, Butter, We're Good, the Frozen 2 medley, Phantom of the Opera, Boy Bands in 5 minutes and If I were a rich man/girl

I tried to hit an F1 the way Geoff does, and it took the emergency surgeon a while to figure out how to get my larynx out of my quadricep.

Hi guys! I was rewatching this this morning (I tend to go back a few times to really absorb the music learnin’) and what you said about dissonance got me thinking. Pentatonix has an original song called Run to You that I think (now that I know what dissonance is...) makes really interesting use of that. It’s a tearjerker, slow and intense, but the way they contrast chords and tambours is amazing. If you ever want to, I recommend checking it out!

Love your reactions and to what you were saying about the subharmonics sounding like they would hurt they actually don’t at all. I’ve been practicing subs since September now and it’s actually quite simple once you understand it. It is really hard to explain tho

Guys you have got to check out the Hu, Wolf Totem. A Mongolian heavy rock band with throat singing, playing some outrages musical instruments. One being a two string instrument that is bowed. Small armyof Mongolian bikers providing their chorus. You will be amazed.

VoicePlay's version of this is just over three and a half minutes long. The one done by The Hound and the Fox feat Adam Chance is just under 2 minutes. And of course their sound is very different.

You guys just HAVE to react to the sequel to this thing, "Valhalla Calling", just released by Voiceplay. Same characters, same costumes and make up, and Geoff goes even lower almost from the get go. And the sweet Cesar get in full Berserker Warrior mode 😁. And there's more, but I don't want to spoiler. 😉
We NEED to watch your reaction to that one. 🙂
    See you there (hopefully). 🙂

Geoff is an incredible singer. My mans can hit an A5 "without straining himself too much" and an F#1 in chest voice. His subharmonics are richer than anyone else's and they go down to at least a C#0, at least that's around where he reached when showing off in a video, which is about 1.5 octaves lower than the foghorn note he hits here. He usually tends to stop around B0 in Voiceplay videos since they often sing in Bm, but occasionally hits A0 just for shits and giggles. That is literally the lowest key on the grand piano and mans can still go left for a while. That is ridiculous. I believe a contrabass and a bass guitar go down to E1 for comparison.
