Most hard point here is to actually realise that WEALTH IS NOT A ZERO SUM GAME. Both you and your competitor can work and gain money. I know it is the most obvious thing to say but to actually bring this in practice in your mind is tough.

From a personal experience, being a student who used to envy my class topper as he was celebrated more than me in my house, I can tell that having a close mutual friendship helps a lot as he trusts in you, you trust in him, both root for each other and that envity inside you slowly eradicates.
But yes having such friends is much rare. I consider myself lucky here that I have one in school currently
