I don't think enough folks appreciate how groundbreaking his music was. He was always outside the norm, leading the way. In my opinion, he is genius on the level of any member of the Beatles. His album "Graceland" was brilliant in its innovation and artistry.
Yes! Graceland is a perfect album, beginning to end. Remember it very well from when it came out, still have it on vinyl, is a great memory of listening to it with my dad so many times. There's just so much lyrical and rhythmic genius dumped into that album. And who can forget Paul Simon and Chevy Chase acting like fools in the video for You Can Call Me Al 🤣
I long ago reached the conclusion that Paul Simon is one of the few artists who can write a song using ANY genre of music... as he has clearly demonstrated throughout his career. This Latin beat is merely one instance.
His first couple of solo albums are replete with great songs including "Loves Me Like A Rock", "Mother And Child Reunion", "Duncan" (classic story song), "Peace Like A River", "Kodachrome", "American Tune".
Jay & Amber, you'll Love his "Loves Me Like A Rock" and "Kodachrome" !!!! Today's song almost was placed on his Grammy winning 'Still Crazy After All These Years' album, but ended up on his 'Greatest Hits, etc' album (1977).
@@sammytheface8821 - Today's song was not on the 1977 Greatest Hits album. And it was not considered for his "Still Crazy..." album. You are confusing "Late In The Evening" with "Slip Slidin Away".
Great suggestions 👍 I think Amber especially will appreciate "Loves Me Like a Rock"❤ I love the drums on "Obvious Child", and the incredible vocals from Ladysmith Black Mambaso on "Homeless " Happy New Year 😊
This song is bloody genius. Telling his story of how music hit him when he was young. He is up there with Lennon and McCartney in songwriting terms. This song makes this oldish woman feel like dancing 💃🏾 lucky to have seen him live, on the Graceland tour and a couple of years ago in Manchester England. A very hot day in July and this song hit home like never before. The man is a certified genius.
He surrounded with monstrous bass and drum players...and great musicians on all instruments, so what else to expect from the genius of Mr. Paul Simon 🤷🏻♂️...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
OMG! You picked my favorite Paul Simon song! Excellent! As a latina, I've always appreciated the latin flavor this has! (I just prefer the studio version though.)
Paul Simon is pure gold. Remember that he wrote & arranged every song from Simon & Garfunkel as well. He’s a musical genius. Check out Kodachrome, Rene & Georgia Magritte & their dig after the war, Mother & child reunion, Loves me like a rock.
This song is so special to me. My husband surprised me with tickets to see PS. He and my son took me to the concert and I will always remember the three of us dancing together to this song that night. I will treasure that memory for the rest of my life!
Kathy's Song is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It's a Simon and Garfunkel but is basically a Paul Somon solo performance. It's very simple and heart felt.
Every household back in the day had a Simon & Garfunkel or Paul Simon album in their rotation. Paul Simon is the standard in music lover essentials. I miss the day of albums and stereos. ✌🏽
If you are into classical music, Paul Simon's American Tune is a must. It is based on a song in the Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach, who was inspired by the earlier composer Hans Leo Hassler von Roseneck (early seventeenth century).
Mother and Child Reunion, Love Me Like a Rock, Still Crazy After All These Years, Slip Sliding Away. Your really cant go wrong with almost any Paul Simon song
Steve Gadd on the drums playing a Mozambique grove holding 2 drum sticks in each hand is so cool. Steves drumming in this song is so good other drummer do videos on how good it is. 👍
😎Awesome vibe here from Mr. Simon. Love it. He grew up in NYC one of the most diverse cities in the world and he absorbed it all and gave it back to us in such great ways.
The incomparable Steve Gadd on drums, Tony Levin on bass, Richard Tee on keys… Paul knows how to fill a room with top musicians who naturally lock into a groove together. All of his backing bands have been superb.
I MUST recommend "Graceland" and "Boy In The Bubble". Some of his best solo work. Love your channel and listen to quite a few of your reviews every week. Have a great New Year!
I love his ability to pull from his travelling. Whether it’s from his New Orleans trips, his African adventure or just his open ability to bring diverse musicians together. You see Paul Simon’s name on a track, you know it’s going to be amazing ❤
Paul Simon - one of the icons of contemporary music. He has been contributing his particular brand of music genius since the late 60's. As far as I'm concerned "Late in the Evening" is one of Simon's very best. If this song doesn't get you up and moving then you must have passed away without anyone noticing.
From his magnum opus, Still Crazy After All These Years, try - Gone at Last - a gospel flavored duet with Phoebe Snow. Once you hear it, you'll want to hear more of Phoebe, which you certainly should do.
What a killer session band playing with Paul on this track. Steve Gadd on drums, has played with Paul McCartney, Chuck Mangione, Chic Corea, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and Aretha Franklin. Tony Levin on bass, has played with John Lennon, Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, David Bowie, Buddy Rich, Lou Reed, Carly Simon, Pink Floyd and Ringo Starr. Eric Gale on guitar, has played with Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Joe Cocker, and Quincy Jones. There’s alot of talent on that stage with Paul Simon
Love it! Nobody reacts to this classic. Thanks. For Simon I highly recommend "The Obvious Child" Also: That bald bass player is Tony Levin - King Crimson, peter gabriel and Levin Brothers. Which is a perfect segue to do peter gabriel "In Your Eyes" from Secret World Live.
This song came from the 1980 movie "One Trick Pony" which starred Paul Simon as a washed-up folk singer named Jonah Levin. It bombed at the box office, but did feature music from The Lovin' Spoonful and The B-52s. "One Trick Pony" is worth your reaction on the movie channel.
Simon with Garfunkel and solo Simon are both worthwhile. I guess I'd take the former if I had to choose, but I'm glad we have both. For your next Paul Simon song, I'd do one of his first 2 solo singles: "Mother and Child Reunion" or "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard". Both fine songs, and the latter has a fun video with Mickey Mantle and John Madden in it.
I like this kind of music because it is smoothing and perfect to relax to. He was very discreate with his smoking a joint in his song. But today's artist are ALL OUT there in their song. They sing it so bluntly, even using bad words like it is the same as saying good morning or hello.
Reminiscing to early 1980s. I played the sax in my high school band. We played this song for our regional competition. Loved this song. Great memories!
The Entire album is probably one of my favorite Paul Simon solo albums. Brilliant and this was part of a movie soundtrack. Album is - One Trick Pony - which is the same name as the film. I saw Paul live in concert three times and this is one song he's constantly tweaking.
Another underrated song of his is "Allergies." Besides using Steve Gadd on drums he utilizes jazz guitarist Al Di Meola. A listen to this song will add Al to your guitar heroes list.
I've watched a lot of ur videos if u want a stunner try the group BLUE TEARS the song is TRUE ROMANCE. They also have one called HALFWAY TO HEAVEN both r ballads from the 90s.
I vote for “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard” or “Still Crazy After All These Years” as the next Paul Simon song to react to. But if you do Still Crazy, listen to the studio recording THEN watch the SNL performance. (Paul Simon hosted Saturday Night Live 5 times, BTW)

Great combo - Richard Tee (keyboard, vocals), Eric Gale (guitar), Steve Gadd (drum virtuoso), tight, tight horn section and Paul Simon (guitar, vocals). Many of these musicians were in the group called Stuff.
Paul Simon is an amazing artist, while the S&G album Bridge over Troubled Water album was a great disc of music and a must have at the time (and still today). Paul Simons work after S&G has been both entertaining and ground breaking, his Graceland album is also a must have. Late in the evening, great song…..Happy New Year folks, 🎉😎🍺☮️
Simon & Garfunkel was a folk duo from the 60s. By the time they split up, folk was near-death. Paul didn't give up on folk, or music from around the world, but he figured out a new sound for the current rock era. Just another aspect of his genius.

Masterful drumming by Steve Gadd who has played for MANY artists (e.g. Steely Dan) in all genres of music and has been with Paul Simon since his early years
I’m so glad you guys are reacting to this song! I’ve been requesting it on all my fave reaction channels for a couple of years or so. I’m so STOKED!! This. He doesn’t get mentioned nearly enough when people talk about the artists that really changed music.
For decades I have pondered if Simon and McCartney would very probably been even better than the two real-life pairings.
Yes, better, I believe!

Also "Loves Me Like A Rock" and "American Tune".

“Me and Julio Down by the School Yard”, yet another awesome tune for you to check out by Paul Simon.

Still Crazy After All These Years. Incredible Sax solo. You'd love it. Some of the best by Mr. Simon.
