I want to add something to this inspiring topic. Stretching doesnt only improves your high kicks but your karate in gwneral such as ease of movement and smooth transition between stances and it can improves your agility and strength too.
@@davidbun4822 thanks I appreciate that! If only .. unfortunately educational type stuff like this doesn’t get pushed as much as controversy and that kind of thing.
@jkgardiner keep going friends 💪💪 never give up who knows your channels getting big 👍👍people who famous because stupid and urgent things never last long .
Thank you for your insight. It is honestly helpful. Being away from martial arts for 10yrs has taught me how much I’ve been neglecting so many basics. Getting back into it has definitely been a challenge. With your amazing vids and Naka sensei’s vids, it has been a life saver. I studied Shotokan first and transitioned into Shorin Ryu. We used to train with chi-shi a lot in Shorin Ryu, I wonder why Shotokan don’t train with them? But my point is, I believe you are correct, when you say weight training should be apart of our normal karate training.
It is very important to breath from the tanden, and to synchronize this kind of breathing and the execution of the techniques. I would like to see the video about this subject.
Jesus your a tank, I actually didn’t know I could bodybuilder and do karate, can you give me any tips? I also do shotokan, been going on for four years now and I’m a purple belt, but I want to put on muscle and be quick like you, any advice would be greatly appreciated
Since you've talked a lot about the "how to practice in a small space" problem: maybe mention it in he title? It seemed to be an issue people might search for. 😊
BEST at home training.....conditioning your body (old school style) fists, feet, fingers, toes so you can ACTUALLY hit someone full force w/o breaking YOUR bones. In my opinion this is the most important thing that is almost universally (except in really old school okinawan styles like Uechiryu) left out of training now!
@@jkgardiner Um, I trained in Shotokan from mid 80s to late 90s (3rd Dan under Okazaki Sensei). Arguably "the heyday" of Shotokan. Had to retire due to the accumilation of all the injuries. Toughest training, toughest and best fighters, and we (ISKF) NEVER did any extensive body conditioning aside from what we gained during actual training (literally getting beat up, broken bones, torn ligaments ect.) Hitting the Makiwara a few dozen times a week does nothing. So, unless training has drastically changed since then (and from what I see, it has......for the worse. Most students today wouldn't last a month back then) I would say speak for yourself and your organization?
@@USGrant-rr2by yea I’m obviously speaking for myself. Shotokan on the whole doesn’t tend to do much if at all. But I always took ideas from elsewhere, sandbags and makiwara, all kinds of things since I was about 14
Hi just found your channel and enjoying your videos I’m looking to start taking some classes where I’m from in Middlesbrough was just wondering if you know any good teachers up this way I just don’t want to find myself at a mcdojo and I know a lot of you karate guys know each other from other areas due to competitions and seminars etc if you manage to see this and could reply , would be appreciated. Cheers
Hi, I can’t think of anyone in Middlesbrough at the moment but the best thing to do, in my opinion, is to go along and watch a few classes at different dojos and see which one gives the best feeling, impression etc, you’ll kind of know if it’s gimmicky and mcdojo like from doing that. Maybe even try a class a few places see how you feel there, I don’t have anyone make any financial commitment when they come along they are welcome to come and go as they want. Most dojos will do that.
@@jkgardinerI thought so. Jonathan Mottram used to come over as well, our club was started in Jersey in 82 by Peter Dennis. I've trained with Ticky when I was 19. Scary guy 😮
@@jkgardiner thank you for replying. I ask mainly looking at Kata as I have been taught to use negative push through the back leg to generate more power but I very rarely see it in Shotokan Kata performances? When stepping forward and punching the back leg stays bent rather than pushing through the foot and straightening.
PLEASE do the body weight session video! I do calisthenics at home and have dip and pushup bars. Would love to see one.
