I remember listening to this for the first time, just after it’s release. My cousin Shawn bought it first and we sat in his room for the weekend listening to it over and over on the turntable . A portable at that . It was MAGIC . Like that feeling , you know , like your thinking has changed and your mind has opened . It’s Pink Floyd all the time.
"When i was a child i caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown, The dream is gone. I have become comfortably numb." Has to be one of the most beautiful parts of a song ever written.
The wall is my first musical memory from my dad playing it on vinyl. I think he was struggling himself but constantly worked and provided for our family. He did sit in the dark at times and drink and listen to this album and hiding behind his own wall. Years later I did the same. Thankfully we both overcame our problems and saw roger perform it numerous times between 2011-13. Nevertheless this album will stand head and shoulders over anything else due to how it relates to me. “Does anybody else in here, feel the way I do?” Love to all ❤️
my mom died to this song in the hospice. Favorite band of all time. RIP momma. I'll never forget you today. thank you for showing me this great band when I was young ♥
iix Aero not another group even can touch the emotion that is evoked like these guys....this is musical perfection in every sense of the word. BEST EVER ALL TIME COLABORATION.....just happy I was a part of the generation who loved and embrace it still. Words dont do these gods justice!!!!
I know what you mean. I have been feeling very badly lately; suicidal in a way I have never experienced. I have been uncomfortably numb. Listening to The Wall broke the dam holding in all my feelings. I have been listening and crying and just having music that emotes for me and puts my feelings to words so well is the relief from pain I needed.
In 1942, Vera Lynn recorded a song “We’ll Meet Again,” Considered one of the most beloved songs of the World War II era, “We’ll Meet Again” has since been covered by a range of artists from the Byrds to Barry Manilow, and was put to brilliant, ironic use during the final scene of Stanley Kubrick’s satiric masterpiece Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. With its message of hope and loving reunion, the song became an instant favorite for soldiers leaving their loved ones behind, as well as those sending their fathers, brothers and sons off to war, uncertain if they’d make it back alive.
+PlanTonto It's a cool little piece of history, but it kinda bummed me out when I learned that she was real. I'd rather imagine her as the Soldier's love interest pre-war, who had long since moved on with her life, in contrast to the armed forces, who returned to find an unfamiliar world and unfamiliar people.
My brothers favorite band was pink Floyd. He went to heaven on 3/22/16, 23 years old. This reminds me of him so much, my heart hurts. Fly high Jacob. We will be together again 💙 I love you brother. Never give up
My Father sounds just like David Gilmour when he sings and he can play all the Pink Floyd songs on his guitar 🎸 totally awesome 👏 he got me into Pink Floyd, thank you Daddy ❤️
BRING THE BOOOOOOYS BACK HOOOOOME!!! I recall an interview with all the crew and, I have nothing against Gilmoour, but it seems he really understimated that theme (bring the boys back home)... However, this pack of songs, altogether, are just amazing like they were a 4 movement sonata or something. Then I had the opportunity to attend a Roger Waters concert and he played an extra-extended version of 'bring the boys back home' and the crowd went crazy... It's a damn good song!

I have probably watched the movie close to 100 times. A friend had it on laser disc when it came out and we watched over and over through our high school days and I have a digital copy and continue watching it a couple of times a year even now. So amazing.
We were shown the movie in high school back in 87. Psychology class, late afternoon. Had to analyze the character. Maybe some acid passed around. Those who MIGHT have taken it had aced the exam.

No wonder why Roger has been suffering through so much in his troubled life. First his dad's death in WWII, then horrible times at a boarding school in England, then many other events way too many to count. At least Roger FINALLY got to visit the very spot where his dad died at Anzio in Italy recently; don't know exactly when. I hope and pray that Roger has finally found closure and inner peace in his heart and mind.
Comfortably numb has one of.the greatest guitar solos of all time in my opinion. That's what made me pick up a guitar at age 8. Been playing over 30 years now and still love to play that solo. Never gets old. Wish I could write like that ,not to be famous or wealthy, but just to be able to reach into my soul and play what I feel. Easier said than done for me. Thanks for the inspiration!!!!
I said that very thing, greatest guitar solo I heard til that point in my life.Except I didn't say one of...IMO it IS the greatest guitar solo til that point in musical History.

So I curl up in my isolation & cling to this song through it. Like reading a book takes you on a vacation in your chair, Pink Floyd takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride in that same chair. My heart just beats to the song & I breathe. And I Have Become Comfortably Numb.
I was always fond of, “Got a Grand Piano to prop up my mortal remains.” Like, I’m literally pouring my life out into this work, knowing that it’s unhealthy, but not being able to stop. Love ya friend.
@@milesteg8183 yes, Roger is a lyrical genius. He's my favorite-hands down. The feeling of how he has so much to give, yet there he is, alone. Another song that touches me like that is The Final Cut.
I often wonder. Lennon and McCartney vs Gilmour and Waters. Amazing people have fallouts. I had a friend for 35 years, then he was gone. I never did ask why. That my friends is life.
@@hyedenny she's a British singer who sang White Cliffs of Dover I think that was the name of this song among others during World War II if she is alive and I think she is she would probably be about 100 years old
They show the movie The Wall at 3am on TCM and I stayed up and watched it and now I'm so fucking depressed today. That movie is the most depressing movie ever. Its a 3 tissue movie. But the music is brilliant and the animations are amazing for that time.
Has anyone else made such deeply sad and moving music? Easily one of the best albums and works of art of all time. 70s and 80s were such creative times. This story is a great portrait of the life of an artist and what they have to go through. It will be lost on many people.
Man, I wish they put "When the Tigers Broke Free" on this album. It was such an integral part of Roger's emotional catharsis regarding the loss of his father, something every one of these tracks displays.
Thank you for posting this. This is the crux of The Wall. A masterpiece of an album, esp. this group of four. And maybe strangely, Vera is my favorite song on the album!
I have seen this movie well over 20 times and i haven't yet stopped! Admittedly, i no longer watch it every weekend like i did when it first came out :)
Interestingly, Vera may well outlive you guys! So don't make assumptions......Vera is 100 years old next March and is held affectionately in many people's hearts.
also seen Water's in 2018 in Glasgow Scotland my home city our seats were in the 9th row a surprise for my 50th from my partner and my daughters what a show old Roger put on best live act I've ever seen apart from seeing Floyd in 88 and 94 awesome live great memories ❤😂
You know how tired you get of some songs??? We'll not these!!! All 4 go so perfectly together. Love all Vera and Bring the boys back home just beautiful. Thanks for everything. Peace
No downtuned distorted guitars, no dissonant chords, no extreme vocals, no swear words even - yet this is one of the most heartbreaking song set ever. Saying as depressed nu metal fan. It doesn't beat you with horrible imagery - it goes deeper, introverted and introspective - how you feel suffering, how you reflect on it - which makes it universal, applicable to many different situations, relatable regardless of what you're suffering from. And it doesn't try to be edgy and cool and poetic - no, it is rather simple and realistic reflections of a realistic human being which makes everything even more relatable. They say that genius is in simplicity - and they are right.
Watched this film for the first time when I was 9 or 10. No other music has ever come close to breaking my shell like this album . Love Is All We Need - JL
Love this even though it makes me sick & sad. I've never experienced war except (as an analogy to personal relationships & other things in life) being blown to bits...
Listen, this is easily the best 4 track run on The Wall, and I won’t be hearing any arguments to the contrary. Having said that, I’d like to nominate Nobody Home as one of the most beautiful/haunting songs ever put to track. It stands out on this album, which is wild if you think about it, considering how many other absolute bangers are in the track list. I can quite literally weep at how gorgeously bittersweet Nobody Home is. I just had to put that out there. Love y’all.
When I was 16 me & my then girlfriend would lay together in a Christmas light lit room listening to The Wall while the snow fell outside. I'm 40 years now and even though it was a lifetime ago it still feels like yesterday somehow.
I was a disco DJ through the 80's so this music was an escape after the boom boom boom of the night club. Today, it's still great music to turn out all the lights and get a wee bit high to. Timeless.
I loved this when I was a young man expanding my mind with modern chemistry and I love it now that I'm in my 50s and sober. Just something about this album that touches my soul.
Pink floyd are the greatest composers of this era.... And roger waters specifically is one of the greatest writers of all time, he showed alot of us that it is ok to feel the pain. Does anybody else in here feel the way i do?
You're only comes trough in waves, your lips move, but I can't hear what, you're saying, when I was a child... The child is grown, the dream has gone, I have become Comfortably Numb Perfect it's all I can say

I nearly spat my coffee when a musician friend remarked that all Floyd albums should come with a razor blade!
like most floyd
Oh man! Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Moody Blues. No, these guys created ALBUMS not songs:)
unless it's put on shuffle with The Final Cut
This is the best stretch of the entire record. When Nobody Home starts, you know you've hit the darkest and most depressing part of the whole album.
One of My Turns and Don't Leave Me Now were quite depressing...
@@testicuslargus6477 One of My Turns may be my favorite song off the album, only one that might beat it out is Hey You.

My heart just beats to the song & I breathe. And I Have Become Comfortably Numb.
I was always fond of, “Got a Grand Piano to prop up my mortal remains.”
Like, I’m literally pouring my life out into this work, knowing that it’s unhealthy, but not being able to stop.
Love ya friend.
@@milesteg8183 yes, Roger is a lyrical genius. He's my favorite-hands down. The feeling of how he has so much to give, yet there he is, alone. Another song that touches me like that is The Final Cut.
Something like that 😂
I often wonder. Lennon and McCartney vs Gilmour and Waters. Amazing people have fallouts. I had a friend for 35 years, then he was gone. I never did ask why. That my friends is life.
But I got no where to fly to
Join the club 😑
At least we have amazing powers of observation
Hana Saiko and only thirteen channels
rustedromeo I was singing the part "but I got no where to fly to" right when I read your comment. coincidence? I think not, lol
fly to ....fly to... fly to... fly to.... fly to.. [...]
Love it
VERAAA VERAAAAAA
some Sunny day!!
Raise your hand if you know who Vera Lynn is, or what this lyric is referring to.
@@hyedenny she's a British singer who sang White Cliffs of Dover I think that was the name of this song among others during World War II if she is alive and I think she is she would probably be about 100 years old
R.I.P Vera
103 Phenomenal age
May you be taking into the Angels arms of your long lost Loved One,s ✨🤗✨
Oh I get it. Dislikes were just mad from crying their asses to these incredible songs
Having a depressing weep for myself, Elliott Smith is up next
I think its people who think it'll skip the song like on Pandora. But it doesn't, it just leaves a thumbs down. :(
the debate is part of the plan.
indeed
I've got a strong urge to fly but I got nowhere to fly to brilliant
Vera Lynn is still alive. She's 100 today. Happy Birthday to her.
Sadly passed today :(
RIP Vera Lynn
RIP Vera ;'(
103 years old
@@josephliptak3183 103 o my

beautiful eh
Unless it rains
My favouritte
Possibly the best four song segment of the whole album. Magnificent x
I knew a guy in college who announced he EDITED The Wall to fit it onto a cassette. We're still friends, but he's never heard the end of it.
One of the best comments I've ever read
They show the movie The Wall at 3am on TCM and I stayed up and watched it and now I'm so fucking depressed today. That movie is the most depressing movie ever. Its a 3 tissue movie. But the music is brilliant and the animations are amazing for that time.
I've watched The Wall on acid and on mushrooms multiple times. Its an amazing, beautiful movie.
Best depressing movie ever!
The story of Syd Barrett is truly a sad one. Any artist can relate to Syd.
TIME TO GO!!!! TIME TO GO!!! TIME TO GO!!! TIME TO GO!!!! TIME TO GO!!!!! A classic!!!
TIME TO GO!!!!(WRONG DO IT AGAIN!!!!)TIME TO GO!!!!(Are you feeling okay???)TIME TO GO!!!
@@Cdubbz905 (there's a Man answering see he keeps hanging up)
Literally a build up to the best song in the album
Vera has been my favorite song forever. Does anybody else in here feel the way I do, I ask this question on a daily basis!!
Vera Lynn R.I.P. Condolences.
they just don't make music like this anymore
not to mention the lyrics
This is more than music ...
I sang "Bring the Boys Back Home" at the baseball game the other day. I don't know if anyone got the reference.
...or the pun...? :)
DON'T LEAVE THE RUNNERS ON THEIR OW-OW-OWN 😂😂
Hope you had a very happy 100th Birthday "the Forces' Sweetheart"............Vera
Bring the Boys Back Home and end all wars
Has anyone else made such deeply sad and moving music? Easily one of the best albums and works of art of all time. 70s and 80s were such creative times. This story is a great portrait of the life of an artist and what they have to go through. It will be lost on many people.
hard agree!
Yep!
Been listening to this for 30 years and it takes me on a new journey every time
does anybody else in here feel the way I do?
I to have amazing powers of observation
Welp, here comes another Pink Floyd binge!!
Fuck ya
Simplemente maravilloso, un álbum extraordinario, no importa cuanto tiempo pase, lo seguiré escuchando, muchas gracias PINK FLOYD 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍😉😉
And maybe strangely, Vera is my favorite song on the album!
same wit my mom
yes, vera song is my favorite too, i think its the surprising beginning, when he suddenly begins to sing. also he uses his most sad voice.
Yes
I have seen this movie well over 20 times and i haven't yet stopped! Admittedly, i no longer watch it every weekend like i did when it first came out :)
Chez Kr It's amazing, isn't it?
basrrf yes it is; an album of pure genius. "When the tigers broke free" is one of my favourite songs ever.
+Chez Kr i wish i could like your comment more than once maybe 100 times
*****:) Thanks!
when i discovered the movie at 15, i watched it every day until i wore out the old vhs tape.
Se você compreende, você consegue sentir. Bring the boys back home! 🇷🇺 🇺🇦
anyone else think this album blows away Dark Side of the Moon? I mean, Moon is good, but c'mon
A Razz dark side of the moon is overrated
A Razz Wish You Were Here > The Wall > Animals > Meddle > Division Bell > Dark Side of the moon
A Razz i personally like darkside of the moon better but they're really close imo
A Razz
Depends on my mood.
Personally I prefer Dark Side of the Moon and Division Bell over The Wall most days.
I always liked momentary lapse of reason too, it's up there but I still think the walls the best
Interestingly, Vera may well outlive you guys! So don't make assumptions......Vera is 100 years old next March and is held affectionately in many people's hearts.
Martin Platt Vera is alive and will be 102 years shortly! Cool stuff!
Martin Platt i didn't even know vera lynn was still alive wtf...
@@clydecash2212 she died at age 103 in 2020.
These songs get stuck in my head so easily
I saw Roger waters just last week. I got the biggest chills and agrenalin rush in my life! it was so amazing!!!!
If you mean "adrenaline" I get it.
The shot you wrote I don't know what the fuck that is you got. Some kind of vd?
This comment sent shivers up my spine, hopefully I might get that chance
Too see them fuck that guys comment hes just angry he don't enjoy good music
I did too a couple of years ago, with my dad
also seen Water's in 2018 in Glasgow Scotland my home city our seats were in the 9th row a surprise for my 50th from my partner and my daughters what a show old Roger put on best live act I've ever seen apart from seeing Floyd in 88 and 94 awesome live great memories ❤😂
You know how tired you get of some songs??? We'll not these!!! All 4 go so perfectly together. Love all Vera and Bring the boys back home just beautiful. Thanks for everything. Peace
My childhood soundtrack 🎼👍💖
Everybody stay safe 😷
Simple yet elegant and absolutely unique - nothing like Floyd before, during or since.
Watched this film for the first time when I was 9 or 10. No other music has ever come close to breaking my shell like this album .
Love Is All We Need - JL
Love this even though it makes me sick & sad. I've never experienced war except (as an analogy to personal relationships & other things in life) being blown to bits...
The ''Vera'' and ''Bring the boys back home'' scene in the movie makes me so sad
ur lips move ,but I can't hear what u say
I’m going to name my daughter “Vera” someday after this song.
13 channels of shit to choose from. Now more the 300, same difference.
Love y’all.
Jesus the guitar solo on comfortably numb gives me goosebumps
Which one? There are two of them!
One of the most underrated guitarists ever, David gilmour.
masterpiece
Thanks to my brothers I have heard the all the best quality rock music growing up.
When I was 16 me & my then girlfriend would lay together in a Christmas light lit room listening to The Wall while the snow fell outside. I'm 40 years now and even though it was a lifetime ago it still feels like yesterday somehow.
Vera, what has become of you
Vinny A she's over a century old and fine
I was a disco DJ through the 80's so this music was an escape after the boom boom boom of the night club. Today, it's still great music to turn out all the lights and get a wee bit high to. Timeless.
R.I.P. Vera
A masterpiece!
Ever since I saw the film, I love it so much, never got tired of watching it time after time.
You're only comes trough in waves, your lips move, but I can't hear what, you're saying, when I was a child...
The child is grown, the dream has gone,
I have become Comfortably Numb
Perfect it's all I can say
I was 14 years old when a friend of mine told me about pink floyd..and thank you..now im 43 years old and still listening to
it...and i wont stop.
Wall all the way !
Dark side of the moon great, but the wall is the 1
The incredible valor displayed by the soldiers in the world wars brings me to tears at times, to think of the devastation.
