The preview was really cute. Hi there I'm from Pacific Northwest the. I started my backyard garden last year. Picked out the half a dozen items as fillers all perennials.
Great information! I was wondering about how to tell when the coneflower seeds are ready. This answered my questions. Last year, I pulled seeds from my echinaceas and scattered them around, thinking some might grow. Not one grew by itself. So I'll be looking for vlogs on how to start coneflowers from seed.

Which are the seeds in your pot, the little white or the little black items?
Do you pick the flower stems with heads while they are still green for wait until they start drying up on the plant?
So I can wait until mine dry up to get seeds? I don't see the tiny seeds on mine, I have the long prickly part with white ends... Is that the seeds?
Thanks. I'm going to try this. I have tried it with Gerber daisy and nothing sprouted. I probably need to let them dry out more 🌼

I'm so confused...I have always been told to let the flower mature and wilt back (turn brown) on the plant to get viable seed. This is what I have always done. This year I am seeing videos saying to cut off the flower in its prime, let it dehydrate for a few weeks, then collect the seed. Wouldn't that leave you with immature seed???
I collect my seeds every year. I just take the heads and put them in a vase in my greenhouse for a couple of weeks to finish drying when we’re were having such a rainy to the end of our season. I was afraid of them going moldy. Is this a real problem in wet areas?
Hi Kathie! 👋 Oh, that's sooo fun you collect your Coneflower seeds too! 😃👍 That's a really good way to let your seed heads finish drying, in your greenhouse. We are going to try that next year for sure. In our climate, we have seen the seed heads get moldy, under the right moisture and temperature conditions. You guys are awesome thank you! When can the seeds be planted? Any time during the season like spring summer fall ? As long as it’s before freezing or is there a special time ? I’m from Minnesota - zone 4 . And also, is there an expiration date on the seeds? If I’ve decided to hold off until planting them until the next season, is that OK? Thanks again.
Hi @kellyneveu7311!! 👋🏼👋🏼 Thank you for saying that! Great question about coneflower seed sowing. You can sow in fall or spring, but since you garden in zone 4, you will probably have more success with germination and plants actually growing up if you sow in the spring. If you sow in the fall, you might get good germination, but your new small coneflower plants will be more susceptible to freezing damage. You can start indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date in the spring. Totally good idea to wait to sow until this next spring. 👍🏼👍🏼
Seeds should stay viable for at least 3-5 years, but as each year passes, seeds are less viable. Hope that helps and thank you for watching our video!
My cone flowers don't turn dark until after the snow falls. So they freeze. Is that too late to save them for seeds? TY

WHAT FLOWERS CAN I GROW WITH PUMPKINS TO USE AS A PEST GAURD?

Hey G! 👋 Thank you for saying that and Allison is definitely feeling better. 😉 Great questions and we have found that our nasturtiums suck aphids to them from around our garden. Another plant that works as pest deterrents around your veggies and other plants are marigolds. There are lots of options to choose from and we have found a great reference book is "Plant Partners: Science-based Companion Planting Strategies for the Vegetable Garden", written by our friend Jessica Walliser. amzn.to/3eMivVJ Great book and we have our own copy, too!
