I know this video is 3 years old, but it just came up in my feed (prob bc I recently saw that live Ozzy Video from 82’ & searched Brad, and now he comes up all the time). Anyway, I cut my teeth playing in metal bands from 89’ thru the early nineties. Every shredder friend of mine was into a certain guitar player like Tracii Guns or George Lynch. Someone as good as you knowing Night Ranger isn’t surprising, but having them be in your top 2 is, and I think that is awesome man! They are totally overlooked in the shredder world. I am subscribing to you. Thanks for sharing this video man!
Very sweet axe my dude. Gillis and Watson are severely underrepresented in the lexicon of 80's guitar duos ~ their licks and signature styles aren't explored nearly enough (Watson's 8 finger tapping and Gillis' musical use of the whammy bar). You deserve the happiness that axe will bring. The tone is great as well. Keep rockin 🤘🏻
Jake, about this guitar..... this is my nr. One to play for about 28 years! They are fantastic for me and everything a guitar has to play! I wish i had two ore more..... thanx for posting! 🎯🪨🎯🥳
Back in 85 when I was shopping for my first guitar, I knew I wanted a red one with a trem. I didn't know what Brad used, but I knew I wanted red with a trem. I ended up with an Ibanez Roadstar II (RS-440). As for Burny, I'd love to get an LP with a trem and sustainer. Brad said he had gotten the 3rd Floyd Rose that FR made when he was making them in his garage. EVH got the 2nd. Are you a White Lion fan? Vito Bratta was another phenomenal player.
Those Roadstars's are great guitars! Our shop bought one in a while back and a co worker looked at me and said "Damn get a Floyd and you basically have a Gillis Strat"
@@jaketanis3069 The trem on my Roadstar II was a beast. I beat the crap out of it and it always stayed in tune. The pickups however....sucked major donkey balls. I didn't even know it had coil tapping until my teacher reached over and pushed on the tone knob. The salesman at Sam Ash music never pointed that out.
I am kinda suspicious of the notion that they got the first three, as Adam Bomb (Brenner) was introducing Floyd Rose to big name guitarists to get them to hopefully buy Floyd's trem unit.
Nice guitar! I'm drooling! Unfortunate that Fernandez Guitars discontinued operations July 11, 2024 and filed for bankruptcy. His guitars will become ultra-rare. Better hold on to it!
Very cool score! I always loved the guitar team of Brad and Jeff in Night Ranger, and always thought Speak of the Devil was an underrated album too. I've also always wondered if Brad makes it through an entire tour without having issues with his Floyds :)
give you a lil info on the the "pre-amp" I remember reading back in the day before it had the wireless it had an "alembic stratoblaster" preamp,, the same as in one of Zappas guitars and the Strat that Steve Vai played through his Zappa days and his Alkatrazz era, his brother helped him install the wireless and they just used the housing from the "stratoblaster". I personally would set that one up blocked and hardtail or Schaller makes what they call a vintage bridge which is basically string through non-locking(fender style) Floyd rose replacement, it's super high quality and cuts down some of the string change effort. you have a KILLER rare guitar there
I hate to tell you this but that is not one of the rare Brad Gillis Model Fernandes guitars. You have the version after his endorsement with Fernandes ended which is why it doesn't have his silk screened signature on the headstock and doesn't say "Brad Gillis Model" either. Owning two of these, I can tell you that his models had clearly marked " Floyd Rose" tremolos on top and the head stock used was identical to a Fender strat and are referred to as "lawsuit editions" since Fender threatened to sue if they didn't change it since they had the exclusive copyright on the Fender headstock shape. All of the Brad Gillis models had Fender lawsuit headstocks, Floyds and high output pick ups. (The pick guard was also 5 layers). You can try taking off the neck and seeing if the body has any markings like "BG" but that modified headstock is indicative of a cheaper version that Fernandes put out afterwards. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but thought you should know. Cool looking guitar anyway.
You don't know as much as you think you do. That is indeed a signature BG guitar exactly as Jake says. I have one too, and I know of others. What *you* are describing do exist and are called "The Function" on the headstock. *Not* like Jakes and mine. And they were indeed individually signed by Brad, unlike the original ones that were silk screened. These were made a later run. Brad told me all of this in person when he added another signature to the back of the headstock on mine. That was in Dec 2016. And I have photo documentation. The floyd on mine was replaced with a decent german floyd with fine tuners but is otherwise stock in near perfect shape. So you are not bearing any bad news. Jake's is a real as can be. lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AM-JKLUA7EuFoTGlRbCbNMZx08vOPN4rhKKJZQDqD3qO34JOv27kPEenJLm9Dxj5is-CnU0iEzK3ylHFTxpgwAlp-PVvGFQIdkqwnbsTCe3EFbVJ_4NisYbp-fGedhgqx-pytvtyD1O16Q7GJztEN_q59Yh0=w1583-h890-no?authuser=0 Jake, let me know how I can reach you privately and I'll tell you a lot more!
Looks like Fernandes reproduced that one. Not a 1980's guitar, but decent enough. If it has jumbo frets, it's a good one. If it has medium jumbo frets, it's a Fernandes Function guitar and you got screwd if you paid over $650 for it. 😅

The cheap way into a Brad Gillis guitar is buy a Fernandes Function FST. They are all black. Just paint the body red and add a EMG 85 or 81 pickup. Frets will be medium jumbo. Replace frets if you want. Total will be $850.
A black nft would probably the best replacement floyd, given theyre gonna be available again at some point. Personally I would go for a schaller vintage trem if there wasnt already a locking nut on the neck. Floyd rose hassle no mas

The trem was a "Head Banker", an early type of Floyd. Pretty sure some of them were still made by Schaller in Germany, without Floyd labeling.
