We have Pony 2's in Canada, as a test market for the US. They were basically "no we have ae86 at home". But looking back they were a 1.6L solid axle, RWD hatchback. It's such a shame they were hated on as they met the same fate as the Chevette: North Americans were too dumb to get it, and it took a Japanese cartoon to make small cars cool to race, but for the pony and chevette, it was too late. It also appears that the wheelbase has been adjusted for this build as the front wheels normally are not that close to the firewall. A weird choice.
so they swapped it with an SR? that's too bad considering that car is equipped from the factory with a Mitsubishi 4g33/32 they could've easily swapped in a 4g63T and would've been an easy swap. If i'm not mistaken didn't Taniguchi also race Mitsubishi Mirage Cup cars back in his early racing career?

No it’s swapped with the Genesis motor, basically a copy of the MMC 4B11
