nice review! i own the anorak version of this eco-shell, which has been discontinued and i love it. it's very thick and durable and makes way less noise compared to a traditional gore-tex shell with the added benefit of a casual sophisticated look. I do agree, it's quite expensive however, compared to a gore-tex pro shell it's relatively similar in cost but the benefit to the eco-shell is the better cut and fit. fjallraven is one of the rare brands that happens to fit my size and build perfectly as if though it were tailored to fit me and for that reason I own quite a few articles of clothing from this brand. i do own shells by the north face and arcteryx but the keb eco-shell brings with it a level of class that is unmistaken. i love this brand and this shell. keep up the great reviews and have fun outdoors!
Nice review. I bought one for my Fjallraven classic in 2019. I wonder how long it will last before I have to waterproof the jacket to be effective again.
Hello Chris, thank you for your review. Very informative indeed. Have you ever tried the eco-shell trousers? Are they as good as the jacket? Thank you in advance.
Chris, my good sir, I am absolutely on the fence between the Keb/Bergtagen Eco shell or the High Coast Hydratic jacket/suit. Significant price difference! Oh boy! I think I can get the whole Hydratic suit for the price of one of the other Eco Shells. I mean…?!?! Ya know, there’s also a hell of a weight difference between the 2 eco shells too? So I’m struggling w/ all that. I really keep going back to what are my needs for a rain jacket? What am I doing w/ it? Where am I use’g this rain jacket? How am I use’g this rain jacket- that’s a good question rite there, lol! But I know I need a rain jacket err suit for my hiking & backpack’g adventures. I know I don’t want to B confined by the weather!
Well hello there, I just discover the company few days ago and if prices did chocked me, quality seems to be at the rendez vous. But on this particular jacket, the Keb Eco-Shell, comments on Fjallraven web site are kind of confusing. For some people this jacket is THE one to buy, it has everything you want and deserve with a price like that. But for others there are pbs... Could you please, tell me more about rain and impermeability after 2 years wearing it ? Did it worked under real day of rain ? Or not ?.. Thanks for your understanding, hoping that you will see my post. Take care.
If you wear the keb eco-shell over top of the keb jacket than you have the full setup, and the same goes for the pants. The keb trousers fill out the keb eco-shell pants.
I can totally sympathise with that. So much so, that I kind of wish that I'd mentioned it in the review. For more "casual" walking in the Fjallraven range the Greenland eco-shell and original Greenland jacket are for sure a better choice
@@chrisgardner9018 I’m a bit of a fjallraven obsessive like yourself but ended going with the Patagonia Triolet, I love it. I’ve got the fjallraven padded skogso for when it’s freezing but it’s useless in heavy rain, even when waxxed right up
Here is how it can work. This shell jacket is not fully waterproof, not like gore-tex but it is not heavy like gore-tex and now Fjallraven has their hydratic product line which probably is fully water proof. So if you have your keb jacket and trousers on and you are hiking you have your eco-shells stuffed into your backpack. If it gets cold or if there is wind or rain you can throw on this shell over top of your kebs and this shell clothing is light weight and breathable. If you relied on gore-tex instead than you would be too warm unless it was cold all of the time outside.
Good review… i am interested in yupik parka. In most brands I am long waist. it is my understanding that yupik is designed for use with interlayers. I have doubts about choosing the size. I'm 186 cm, chest 111 cm What do you think L or XL?
Personally, I would adhere to the size guide! Because in my view, it will fit you the way in which the designer intended it to fit. So in your case, I'd go for the XL, since the chest measurement in the jackets for XL are 110-116cm, and you lie within that
@@pablomorando35 I am not sure to be honest, I am pretty unfamiliar with Patagonia's sizing! However, I think Fjallraven clothing is more generously sized, and a little more roomy, on purpose so to speak. But I could be wrong! This does seem to be the consensus amongst most Fjallraven enthusiasts though
Hi Chris your Fjallraven Echo Shell jacket review was very good . May I ask what height you are and what size of the jacket you have a small or a medium etc as I am going to buy one online , I am 5ft 9. , many thanks Scott
They are fantastic jackets, everyone who buys one loves them. However, with what they cost.. I’d expect no less. Prince William wears this thing.. and that guy could wear anything in the world he wants. So.. I kinda want one.
Holy fucking $500. I own a few pair of pants from fjallraven, which at $200 I thought was alot. I live in the pnw and Im trying to get some good rain gear but mannnn, the cost for just the top. :(
While this keb eco-shell seems like it's a great technical jacket, I would not recommend Fjällräven products in general. Most of their stuff is made of G-1000 fabric which isn't waterproof and is water resistant for only couple of minutes even if waxed thoroughly. I pity the person who is stuck in rainy weather wearing one.
@@ketle369 Gore-tex is kinda old fabric that does waterproofing over breathability, but there are other way more breathable modern fabrics out there. I do my winter running in a jacket made of drymaxx fabric. Keeps me dry inside and out.

I'm biased toward Fjallraven equipment, too. But I keep buying it because it holds up better than anything else! 🙂Great review, thanks!

How tall are you and what size did you go for ? From reviews i've read they come across as really big fitting
I really wanted this jacket it’s just the lack of hip pockets that make it a bit non practical for everyday use, it looks really cool though

I’m totally doing it
They're a great jacket. But I think you could have safely gone down a size and still had room for layers
They sure are! And you're totally right, even in a size S I reckon there'd still be plenty of room for multiple layers 💯
@@chrisgardner9018 I think it can be a suitable size for him if he wants to have some room for some extra layers

all i care about is what fjallraven stands for and what they are doing for the environment. thats what im happy to pay for.
6:07 is that Bergtagen 38?
Keb 52 😃. Although, that backpack looks extremely good too!
Can you use Greenland wax to this jacket?
Nope! Instead you use Fjallraven’s “PFC-FREE ECO DWR IMPREGNATION” 😃

450 pound lol. In Finland it's 600 euro.

I would recommend Fjellreven. Put on rain gear if it’s raining. Goretex hasn’t enough breathability for hard effort exercise like hiking.
