One single cast of Inferno could also dish out 3 or 4 missiles at once, which would mean that you could overlap several of them when you cast for a while.
and in addition to that, each missile should indeed be 3 tiles wide and not just 1 as you said.

Good observation there GGM. At 5:30 I'm thinking it may have to do with a hit cooldown, so that the individual projectiles might be firing at 8 per second but the cooldown of the skill to hit might not be short enough so that all 8 projectiles hit but only 3 (for example), otherwise the sounds the monster makes would be like "ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch" per second instead of "ouch ouch ouch"

One of the skills that is deadly when monsters use it, but absolutely crap when players use it.

Yeah, like when those midget shaman guys use it, it's almost instant death. It's the same with the druid's frost thing. The ice troll dudes frost breath is pretty strong in comparison.

Would be cool if the more u level up Inferno u can shoot lightning flame like Diablo does. And u can have that sound it does. Make the range longer and longer so u reach further with it. And the flame get hotter and leaves burn marks that will burn all monsters in the area. :D

I wish they would just turn this into a Fire Nova instead. I think That’d be a lot more useful.

It'd be cool to see faster cast rate effect this ability. That'd be significant

It seems like some sort of consecutive hits increase would work as a possible change too given that it's made up of those individual flames. No prerequisites and just the one synergy does leave open some space for other skills though

Ggm, i have a question. I am in act 1 hell with a sorceress, and i have a nightmare act 2 merc with holy freeze, but when i go to hell, the holy freeze of jemali , becomes the defiance skill, instead of holy freeze..... So how can i use the holy freeze merc in hell?

I used inferno as an shotgun variation like just clicking and releasing quickly instead of holding and I can pretty much clear act 1 in normal with only that, noticed that's how pit lords use inferno they don't hold instead spray small amounts

What they could do is every 4 levels or so add projectiles that come out. And maybe add the line while channeling attackers take fire damage 5k to 10k or more🤔 just some ideas

I'd like to see it shooting out a cone instead of line, with increasing angle, maybe at cost of little less range increase... Thinking of burning hands spell from Baldurs Gate 1/2

Honestly while you were rotating with inferno it looked like poison nova, it be kind of cool if they reworked it so that its a fire version of the novas

full dps is when youre close and that means dps comes faster, same when small objects approach and take their dps faster. Old effect was more epic. That tiny thing is lol. Compare old to new.
Old version range was like 2.6 yeards at first, meaning you hit full dps. I wonder how many frames 1 missile takes up, it also could or, should be subject to FCR. Multiple hoses would means Dmg reduction would be applied even more so individually if Im right. This, or area widens with dmg drop off - at range. I imagine is like a propane flamer. The longer the flame, it cools down, heat dissipates oxygen burns at the start. Missile travel time also too slow. At first, fast, as it slows down, it widens. If it is a liquid flamer it shoots liquid to a point where it makes contact over an arc similar a it to what meteor leaves. Meaning, no piercing. more of a fireball without explosive, more of that AoE but no instant effect.

I always was hoping for a starter fire build as I build enchant early on for pre buffs for my other HC toon's. I'll just shop a +3 inferno staff and max warmth O_o Ps. nvm it continues to be crap. I'll stick with my charged bolt and frost nova staff's for ladder start twenk gear.

They should make this skill like it was in d1 at least. Other implementatiom could be a cone of flames, like a dragon's breath weapon weapon.

I always thought why inferno was not like what diablo shoots. Not the lighting spell, but the one that sticks on the floor. THAT is the real inferno, they should change it to that.

Thank you for the video, but you didn't understand well how the spell actually works. The skill is no more than a sustained Damage Over Time skill, similar to poison but you have to keep casting it. In the video at around 9:25 you suggest that the damage is done when you manage to cast a whole string of fire to the edge of the screen, but that is not how it works. Once you spend one whole second casting inferno, that single small-ish string of fire will do 11520 (in your example) damage to whatever enemies are hit by it even if you stop casting after that second. At 9:46 you casted Inferno for about 1 second and you said "this is not" but actually yes, that medium/small sized string of fire will do 11520 damage to any enemies hit by all of it (it is the third example you do counting from 9:42).
In the end, what inferno does is create xxxx number of small projectiles in one second, and 11520 damage is divided by these 9 or 10 projectiles, so each projectile that hits an enemy will do 1152 damage. You don't need to keep casting inferno for more than 1 second to output 11520 damage one single time.
What I would suggest is that you do proper testing by finding a monster with a bit more than 11520 health points of life for example 13000 HP, and without any fire resistance, then you can see if 1-second cast of inferno will leave that monster with 200 HP left only.
Also, you are not using using inferno correctly. You have to actually hard-target the enemies (left clicking on the enemies). If you randomly left-clicking around without hard-targeting, the spell will miss a lot, but if you actually left-click on each enemy, the spell will hit the enemy 100% guaranteed, given that the enemy doesn't dodge or move outside the range. With that being said, you have to use inferno in close proximity, or against distant enemies that do not move (much).
Also, re-targeting to new enemies that you previously hard-targeted is possible if you target a new enemy before the casting animation ends. That way Inferno will not stop casting (i.e. won't enter cooldown animation) and it will 100% hit a new acquired target. The way you are using the skill is quite bad.
