Catching Fish ON THIS!? Maggots In The Mini-Baiter!
We had a call from our good friends at Top-Baiter, who'd been busy in their workshop, to say they'd created a new product for their Mini-Baiter float. This new product was a 'Maggot Cap' and had been designed (as the name suggests!) to allow anglers to use maggots in there Mini-baiter or Top-Baiter floats. With the addition of the maggot cap, they wanted to make their product even more appealing and effective in the cooler months.
Now we've always been interested in the Top-Baiter product range and this little addition was no different, so armed with the new Maggot Cap we headed down to Reepham fisheries, on what was a pretty grim winters day to try and catch a few carp and put the new product through it's paces.
To find out a exactly how we got on and to see if we managed to catch a carp, then watch the latest episode from the waters edge…
As usual we hope you enjoy it and any feedback is always much appreciated.

Looks good I've been looking for something new to go with my fishing gear thanks Steve for the video
No worries mate, glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Great session Steve. I’ll certainly look at getting one. 👍🏻
Thanks Simon! Glad you enjoyed it. 😊👍🏼🎣
Great vid mate once again!
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it! 😌🎣
Great video Steve , also try the mini top-baiter with bread or with worms, greetings herman korthuis team top-baiter netherlands
Thanks Herman! That sounds interesting too - we’ll have to give that a try. 😊👍🏼🎣
great vid guys, stay save. greetz from Holland.
Thanks as always Erwin, hope you’re well and staying safe too. 😌🎣👍🏼
Bought one on the strength of this video. I notice they recommend rigging the baiter inline for sub surface but Steve opted for top fixing, any reason for this?
Nice one mate, we hope you catch a few fish using it! To be honest attaching it via the top is just a bit neater and user friendly. (However I'm sure you could use it inline.)
I've tried the original type and the mini one and had problems with both. The main thing is that it seems to be the perfect float to catch the wind and wanders off with the slightest breeze dragging the fish with it, how do you keep the thing still? Also had issues with the ball part sticking on the stem every few casts, very irritating
It seems like a good idea and I will persevere for a bit longer but it feels like it will be one of those promising gizmos that ends up at the back of the tackle shed, never to be used again
Hello Andy , try to put a little olivet 2 ore 3 gram in the bottum off the stam of the top-baiter. it will cast better and you have less drag by the wind.
Hi Andy, due to the nature of how its attached it's not going to be as easy using it on a very windy day, but then the same comments can apply to all floats really. Is the float sticking because bait or grit gets under it? We haven't had any issues with that?
@@carpmasterherman thanks I'll try that
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV it doesn't have to be very windy, a gentle breeze pulls it all over. With a normal float I can at least sink the line and lay a shot on the lake bed to help with this but that kind of defeats the object with this device as it's designed to fish up in the water as far as I can tell and replace a pellet waggler type setup, of course a pellet waggler doesn't catch the breeze anywhere near as much but doesn't deliver bait/ groundbait. I really want this to work as it could be perfect on some of the waters I fish
Only now getting back in to fishing, Norfolk based also, but mainly a lure fisherman, now with the season ending, looking at going to sea bass and trying for a bit till season in June again. Do you sea fish at all
Yes mate, lots of sea fishing video's on our channel. :-)
I really like it👍
Thanks mate, It did work nicely!
What was the landing net handle looked solid been looking at the Aquos 4mitre was that a Aquos
Hi Alan, it was indeed. Steve loves his!
What mitre was it they do a 3 and a 4 just wondering if the 4 mitre would be strong enough for big carp Steve's looked like a 3 mitre
Great video! Im guessing this is the same float you used for floater fishing in the summer?
Yes it was mate, it was the Mini-baiter (the one we used in the summer with sloppy groundbait in it) with the new maggot cap added. 😊👍🏼🎣
The larger version is called the Master Baiter 👍🏻
Haha! :-D
A lot of fisheries were I am won’t allow these as they class them as a fixed feeder rig.
Really? That’s strange mate, as it’s fished the same way as you would do any float or waggler!?
how do you go on with fisheries who say you must have a running feeder?
I’m not sure Steve, I guess you’d need to just check with the fishery before hand. 😊🎣
Fishing is still allowed boys
Yes Rory! Long as you fish locally. 😊🎣
I would like to see how this could be set up on the pole. I did see one with the inventor, herman but no explanation of the rig setup
We probably wouldn’t use it on a pole Paul as you could create the same/similar effect with a pole pot or toss pot. It really comes into its own when fished out of pole range. Saying all that am sure you could try it though, would set it up in exactly the same way, just on your pole line. 👍🏼🎣
Hello Paul Mennell, i never sad i am the inventor, but i fished the mini top-baiter on the pole just as i would do on a waggler rod
Do u recon u could use this for summer surface fishing?
Definitely Ted, we've actually made 2-3 video's using the Top-Baiter and Mini-Baiter. You can check them out on our channel. :-)
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV ok cheers guys tight lines 👍
Good video but please get the camera settings right as it looks far to dark .
The camera settings were right it was just a very grim day! Haha. 😂
Where do you get the mini baiter?
You can buy it on there website Mark, we’ve popped a link in the video description if that helps. 👍🏼
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV thank you guys
Your Videos are much more interesting when you don't catch an endless stream of Commercial Fishery Carp!
Some people like watching videos of commercial Carp and Steve likes fishing for them, so we try and cater for everyone.
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV Absolutely, there are many forms of Angling. Your Fishing for the Neglected Species vid was a classic! To me catching Carp all day is almost as bad as a blank. I suppose the Commercial vids help to pay the bills!👍
Nice one, what rod is that? It looks to have a great action
Thanks mate! The rod Steve was using was the Matrix Aqous, he loves it! Think it’s great value for money too.
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV feeder rods look decent too.. ? just had a quick peak
Airy-ator 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Haha, Is that wrong? Or just us Norfolk speak! 😂😂
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV ha ha no it’s a pet hate of mine. It’s pronounced air ayter no ‘i’ or ‘y’ 😆😆😆
Great vid by the way 👍
Anyone else waiting for them to release another variant and call it the "Master Baiter" ?
Haha! :-D
