For first time F1, other than Your passport + i20 + app conf You dont need anything. Dont believe what ppl say here. Its a very important rule for the visa officers to not looking into other documents like bank statement, financial proofs etc…..

So in my case funding documents will be my offer letter and i20 where funding has been mentioned. apart from this, do i have to carry other documents you mentioned like payslip, legal documents, etc....
Funding documents are basically fds or loan or other source of saving which shows that you have x amount of money to fund your living and tuition fee. Pay slips , affidavit are documents of your sponsor is required to show that he/she is earning regularly.

They only check the latest form which is linked to your appointment. To answer your second question I am not really sure if they know the amount of times you have submitted your ds160 so can't help you with this sorry.

You can back yourself by saying you wanted to study in this university only, and thus applied only for that university, because of ..... ( reason) . Funding documents are basically financial proof that show atleast 1.5 times the amount in your i20. It is shown to prove that you will be able to fund your education. It can be loan letter, fd , lic policy etc. Legal document is an affidavit that states that your sponsor is taking the responsibility to fund your education. I have attached what has to be written on it. Just buy a stamp paper write the given content and get it attested from a lawyer.

They both are different things. Offer letter - just started that you have received admission. I-20 : it is a document which you receive from University, after showing proof of funds that is required for your education .

No then just the i20 is fine. Usually they don't question why you only got accepted to one? But if you do you can say that you made the mistake of applying to dream colleges instead of safe ones.
