Love how this episode casually revealed how abusive Stolas’ ex was when she took a swing at him. He caught it without pointing it out which shows how casual beatings were in the marriage. Hope there’s gonna be an episode where Octavia gets answers out of Stella and learns who her mother really is.

Stolas being more comfortable around/attracted to imps makes so much sense when you realize he was raised by them, spent all his time with them, and most of his positive experiences in life have revolved about the impish staff in his mansion. His infant nursemaid was an imp. The butler's an imp, the kitchen staff...
Being around the other goetia must feel uncomfortable to someone who looks like them but is not like them at all.
It was shown also in Harvest Moon episode - Stolas was clearly excited talking about IMP festival, he even called Blitzø and his crew "just for fun/taking day off" not because he grew damn bored about festival

@@praescia I think it also comes down to personality type as well. Stolas is by nature a very kind person so that kindness was extended to imps as well, even if people tried to teach him otherwise

You know, despite it all. Despite all the abuse, the hate, and berating, Stolas NEVER put his hands on her, never physically retaliated or verbally abused her back. He simply asked her to get out after all was said and done. A very respectable man.

stolas' story is extra sad when you look at it from the perspective of him being (presumably, idk if it's been confirmed but it's definitely what i'm picking up here) a gay man. homophobia doesn't seem to be as big an issue in lower circles, like hellhounds and imps, at least not that we've seen--yeah, we've seen it from sinners, but they've got completely different social dynamics going on. among royalty, however--little stolas couldn't quite understand why at the time he was so upset by the idea of the arranged marriage to stella (aside from her literally choking a dog in the photo), or why he took such a liking to that cute little imp clown. 25 years he did his best to do what he was "supposed" to do as a man--marry a woman, have and raise a child, and all the while he was utterly miserable, on antidepressants that barely did anything to help, stuck in a loveless marriage with a wife who constantly and openly ridiculed him at home and to their peers about how pathetic of a husband, a man he was. no fuckin wonder stella had to do everything in bed--in addition to her being an absolute witch of a person, he just... doesn't like girls! but that's what it comes down to, even if stolas doesn't realize it, even if stella doesn't realize it--the narrative here, the things being said about him, the pressure he faces, it's all just saying "you are a failure as a man because you are gay." it just... fuck. it's sad as fuck to see, especially since it's a very real and enduring issue. im proud that after ~25 years, stolas has finally come to terms with the fact that this isn't working for him, stood up for himself, and took a step towards happiness, even after such a gods-awful night.
Respect for the approach to the voice acting of little Stolas: we hear the familiar intonations that the adult character already has. I also think that Stolas, as a child, partly adopted the manner of speech in terms of intonation from this valet of his, as the one with whom he was forced to communicate the most (lack of friends and not so frequent meetings with his father, I think, had such a serious influence on where young Stolas could draw on verbal and non-verbal information for communication... I mean, Stolas was quite limited in these sources).
In general, respect to everyone: both the actor and those who were able to convey the technical task to him!

DEFINITELY! The moment I saw Stella, I knew she was trouble. Stolas did the right thing to get out of the situation. He's getting out of an abusive relationship that has happened for 17 long years. Seeing him become stronger within the final moment was a great move. I hope Octavia will take this opportunity to remain with her father.🥺

@@weenbeenpeen I would say the more important point is that stolas never _chose_ to be in that relationship. It was forced onto him, and in addition to that, stella clearly hated him. It was never really a relationship. It was all fake and formal.
There's a brilliant twist here, because in the beginning, stolas was cast s a cheater, and pretty much everyone in the show who knew saw it as such. he was the unfaithful husband who was chasing after blitz because of lust, and this is highlighted last episode. That's the view of any person on the outside looking in, even to blitz, and that belief hurts him because he want's a real family.
But here we suddenly see the situation is completely different. Stolas isn't chasing after blitz out of lust because of being unsatisfied with his wife. Stella isn't constantly mad at stolas simply because he cheated on her. instead, Stolas is chasing after his childhood crush because of a longing for freedom. the freedom to be with who he really loves. AFTER having tried and failed to satisfy stella and make everything work.
he's not truly a cheater. not in my eyes. This is so sad, because blitz doesn't even realize he has exactly what he wants with stolas.
And I think that little pause and blink was an internal recognition that it might have only hurt Octavia more.

kind of unrelated but i wanted to compare the two scenes (the one from the pilot and the scene in this episode) and i noticed that Stella actually isn't wearing the same thing. In the pilot she's wearing a green themed dress but here she's wearing her normal dress.

So Stolas is at least 35? 25 years after he got given the book his daughter is 17 so Octavia was born 8 years after he got given the book, which means assuming he was married to Stella as soon as he turned 18 and it just didn't take long to conceive Octavia, he was given the book on his 10th birthday
He was actually married when he was 10, which is arguably worse, as it means they had a child... as a child... he's 32, I believe. Stolas does mention that it's been almost 2 decades, which would be about 15 years. He would be 25 when he slept with Blitz, then 7 years pass.
So he likely had Octavia when he was 15. Yikes.
I just noticed a difference in how Stolas treats the servants and how Stella treats them. He's noticeable more respectful towards them.
Stolas isn't entitled, or feels superior to others. If he has, or is, then it's because he's been forced to think this way. Look at when he bowed to greet Blitz and his father hit him for it, sweetly revealing his true character.
Stella is his antithesis. Stolas is capable of love, despite being a spawn of the Dork Lard. Or, is it the Dark Lord? Point is, he's starting to truly think for himself for the first time in his life. I suspect his abilities are key to his character.
Like, he can see the stars. He is naturally prophetic, which I assume represents his growing ability to choose his own future. Even more poignant, he can rise above Hell and actually leave it. All brilliantly symbolic.
I love a show that makes you think like this. This episode took you, pushed you into a deep hole and plummeted you down to entirely new levels of depth, ESPECIALLY as far as Stolas is concerned. I've watched it twice since I discovered it was available, a couple of hours ago.

See? This is what I mean about how the show has you happily analysing it. And, they have given us much to ponder. The S02 premier has gone unexpectedly deeper, adding poignancy and true depth of character development to an entirely new level. It was a stroke of genius for the writers to fashion it this way.
Think about it. S01 had only 8 episodes. From the pilot to S02 they have transformed Stolas. Actually, the pilot does a brilliant job of establishing the character dynamics, in only 11 minutes!
Many people in the comments say they hated Stolas. Now, his popularity has soared. This is rare, especially in such a short time. This explains why it's worth looking for hidden metaphors and symbolism.

Plebeian. Brilliant word for the writers to use, over using a modern, or crude term to say it. Actually, the fact that she thinks that way is the same reason why she shatters the glasses. 😜
I really love how they clearly got actual children to voice young blitzo and stolace, like it sounds so much more like genuine children messing around

Seeing how uninvolved Stolas' father was, remembering he actually puts in the effort to learn Octavia's passions and be present in her life makes me smile.

Literally the only relationship Stolas has had where people haven't been taking advantage of him - is with his daughter. His father just needed an heir and a line of inheritance, Blitz was originally brought in to steal from him, Stella is only there for his money/power/to make an heir, Blitz reconnected with him to steal from him again - like omfg. No wonder Stolas has so much despair at the end of this episode.

so true, but in a way where it adds so much, Stolas has good articulation cos he's a prince, Blitz and Fizz, who are working kids and probs don't receive regular education are voiced by kid actors who still have lisps, i can't believe i've actually seen ppl say the voiceacting of the kids was bad when they probs just can't tell the difference between acting out emotions and articulation, which in great majority of cases is necessary for profesional VA to have perfect articulation, but not here, the kids sound exactly like irl kids sound like with subtle lisps that are probs near impossible to replicate by an adult VA

Small detail I love: in Stolas’s phone he has pictures with Blitzø but he isn’t smiling, while on Blitzø’s phone in the end of season 1 we can see he took a happy selfie with Stolas while he was asleep, showing Blitzø does feel a sense of happiness and comfort around Stolas he just isn’t showing.

Moxxie has killed many people, and Stolas seems to be more pacifistic, such as when Blitz told him he was in a murder business, he recoiled in discomfort, and when Blitz, Loona, Moxxie and Millie needed saving, he never killed a single human even then. I'd say this puts Stolas a bit higher than Moxxie.
