    This is 2022. I have a Dyson DC01 Antarctic solo special edition (because it was the only model they had in the shop at the time I bought it to mark the Sir Ranulph Fiennes Antarctic expedition) I am still using to this day, and I wouldn't change for the world! It is still just as powerful as the day I bought it back in around 1979, and over the past 43 years, I've only ever changed one drive belt. It was serviced the once by a Dyson servicer who came to the house, and she told me the DC01 model I had was not made that long because "it is too good, and never goes wrong" so he would have gone out of business!

    We had a DC01 Absolute with purple tools. Ours did not have a rubber protector where the cord entered the machine. My mum was using it one day and sparks flew where the cable wore through at the entry point. Dyson collected it and we got a practically brand new machine back when they returned it to us. Excellent service.
    I also remember turning it on when the bin was removed and the HEPA filter blew out of the hole under the bin where it was stored. I shit myself because it made quite a bang lol.

    If you had the Absolute or De Stijl models there was a hole on top of the second stage filter for the Hepa cartridge, which meant the dust that drops of the cyclone fell on top of the filter and blew off when you started it up.

    I had one of the very first DC01's in 1993. It practically ate my carpets and then the motor blew up. Dyson replaced the motor with a less powerful one as apparently, it was happening a lot and people were claiming for damaged carpets! The second one lasted until 1997 when I got the pink and purple DC04 for meningitis research. That went down the tip a few weeks ago and had outlived Miele's, LG's about 6 Vax's (complete rubbish) and a few other vacuums as well. I don't like the new Dyson's, they don't seem to pick up properly or be very sturdy so I've replaced my old trusty with a Shark rocket and love it!
    BTW, the original DC01 & tools were plain grey with no flecks! I used to put a carrier bag underneath the cyclone when I emptied the bin and then brush all the muck off LOL

      Back in the mid 90s, the US had the Fantom cyclonic vacuum cleaner, which used Dyson's designs, and there was also a direct Fantom equivalent of the DC02 canister as well, so you did "sort of" get Dysons in the US in the 90s.

    As much as I hate Dyson’s I bought one of the last ones before they were discontinued. It had the fins on the bottom of the cyclone instead of just smooth. I used it every day for 4 months instead of my Kirby G4. Before doing this though I used the black pads from my Kirby dem kit and vacuumed until nothing came out the carpet. This didn’t take very long at all considering how much shake n vac I used. After 4 months I put my dem kit on my Kirby and went over my lounge like I did before using the Dyson. My Kirby pulled out 6lbs of shake n vac that the Dyson had missed. ( my lounge carpet was very very thick ) I took pictures ( had to have them developed back then ) and put them in an envelope with a letter I wrote. Saying how much they lied about maintaining 100% suction 100% of the time and how much mank it had left in my carpet. And how the filters clogged and made a noticeable drop in power. I told them how often it was cleaned out ( every day ) and that the filters were changed twice a week The letter I got back asked me to send it back and they would strip it down and check it over them send the same machine back. I put a small piece of tape where the two halves of the motor housing met to see if it was really going to be taken apart. It was sent back with the tape untouched. So another letter telling them what I had done and that they lied about taking it apart. They sent me a brand new one as an apology so I did the same again. I had letter back from them telling me they would look into it and not to talk to anyone about it. I then got a letter a few months later telling me they had addressed the issues with the the DC04. So low and behold I did the same again. I was asked not to speak about my findings and to stop sending letters and pictures and videos about the failings in their vacuums and the lies they told and claims they made

    90 Airwatts for the DC01 Roger? Thats exactly how many Airwatts the latest Dyson Light Ball has, but I'm sure the Light Ball cleans a bit better than the DC01. Amazing that after 25 years of progress, with the current Light Ball, we end up back at the air wattage of the very first Dyson upright. Its the same for motor wattages too, we had 700 and 800W motors as standard back in 1993, when the DC01 ws launched, then we went up and up until we reached the dizzy heights of 2300W for many vacuums in 2014, and now we are right back at 1993 levels again with motors of 700W or under. I wonder if dirty fan motors will make a comeback too?

    I still remember my 'unboxing' experience of a DC01 back in the early nineties - as a result of which I resolved never again to buy a product made by James Dyson.
    Having read in the national press the stories of the impressive British inventor who was about to revolutionise the world of vacuum cleaners, I purchased my DC01 and returned home in anticipation of the promised revolution in my domestic life.
    The first thing that struck me on unboxing was the disappointing number of commercially-inspired stickers it was covered with. It took me over an hour to remove the stickers and clean off the residue from the stubbornly resistant adhesive. But I trusted that engineer Dyson (whom I had presumed to a be purist) would soon rid himself of the commercial lot he had fallen in with and that future models would no longer require this burdensome task of the new user.
    Having given the machine a quick try on the carpets upstairs, I thought I would give it a try downstairs - at which point I discovered that this machine had been designed by a man, to be used by a man - and only by a man. The placing of the carrying handle was such that the only way the machine could be safely carried down a flight of stairs without finishing up with broken bones at the bottom was by holding it with a straight arm outwards, away from the stairs, so that the lower part, naturally angled inwards by its weight, could not catch on the stairs below and send you tumbling head-over-heels to the bottom. Given the not insignificant weight of the machine, masculine Mr Dyson or his equally masculine product evaluators clearly thought that there would be no problem. I wondered if he had considered the fact that, regrettably, it is women who are called upon to carry out the majority of cleaning tasks in the home. I wonder now if his wife managed to survive the dangers he presumably would have exposed her to and if she had any advice to offer him on the science of ergonomics.
    But what about cleaning performance? Yes, it seemed to have plenty of suction, more than my previous cleaner, but did it fulfill its promise of saving us the trouble of getting rid of the all the mess that had plagued earlier vacuum cleaners? Well, yes - in a sense. At least we did not have to hunt around for replacement bags any more. But, having once emptied (so conveniently), the cylinder into the waste-bin, we then had to hoover up all the dust that had unavoidably spilt on the floor while removing the cylinder from the machine. So one was not sure exactly where the improvement, heralded by the DC 01 lay
    Maybe more recent Dyson models are better. I don't know: I haven't bought another one. After the above experience, I resolved that Dyson would get no more chances with me.

    • @mathismuller6033
      @mathismuller6033 Год назад

      During my exchange year in England, I used a much later iteration of the DC01 and can confirm the problems you had. I thought it was rather heavy and annoying to use under any sort of furniture. Carrying it down the stairs was downright dangerous and the hose was a pain to use. Emptying it however was no problem. They seem to have perfected the bin. At home we only ever had a Miele standard vacuum which was good enough. Having moved out I bought a second hand Dyson V6 and must say, it is a pleasure to use.

    This looks like a Malaysian DC01 as it looks higher quality than the early Dysons.

    Awkward to empty??? You kidding ain't ya. The DC01 dustbin is the easiest bin to remove, dump and slot back into the machine I've ever seen.

    • @ibaisaic
      @ibaisaic  Год назад

      As long as you don’t mind the dirt that falls out of the cyclone and onto the cleaner when the bin is removed.

    • @jazzdub4958
      @jazzdub4958 Год назад

      @@ibaisaic Well I understand that basic procedure, but what I've been doing since I ever used it was to wiggle and tap the yellow cyclone head on the inside of the bin as it's removed thus dislodging excess dirt and dust into the bin. Then with a damp rag run it over and around the vented shroud to initially clean and collect any remaining clogged dust so it doesn't fall onto the exposed vacuum HEPA filter. As I say it's an easy process but I do get your stance that Dyson could have implemented a cleaner operation.
