  • In 2022, I photographed 104 portrait sessions, mostly on film. Follow me through my 104th and final portrait session of 2022, and find out how I managed to make this happen, and how you could maybe make it happen for you. Featured in this video: 120 Cinestill 400D at night , Hasselblad 503CW, and lots of great memories! Night photography on film and portrait photography on film at night are not as difficult as you might expect!

    This is why Eric and Vania called you the "Hardest Working Man in Photography". I still rely on paper monthly planners (and I've been watching since the "Camera Insecura”days). Happy New Year my friend!

    Jamie I followed your channel long enough to not remember how long I have been following it, if that makes sense. Because of the image on the outtro I think we both agree shots 6 and 7 were the great ones of this shoot where Amber shines. Awesome work!

    That is a lot of portrait sessions! Really instructive video & I really enjoyed the photos. I've been following you for a while & I like the real life coverage of the shoots even though I never have problems.OK I really do.

      Thank you, I really appreciate that! Hahah, it's fun to think of being able to edit out bad shots or mistakes in real life, too.

    That is a fantastic milestone! Honestly hitting over 100 shoots is impressive just from being able to afford to shoot film that often! On shoots I used to do 20% digital and 80% film (mix of 35mm, MF, and instant), but I've had to cut it to more like 60% digital and 40% film.That's not just because of cost, but also plain availability as many of my favorite stocks have been harder to come by consistently. I've been watching ever since you made that cameo in that Grainy Days video and so very glad I did! Keep up the great work Jamie!

      Ahh, cool! It was so fun to meet Jason and Caleb ... hope to make another trek out that way this year. And yeah, I tend to have favorites, but I try to play the field with film just to remain in action. Gold 200 in medium format was a MAJOR boon for my shooting this year, as was cinema film and the return of some cheap Fuji 400 to local shelves. And budget black and white. Whew. Thank you, and I appreciate it!!

    Happy New Year Jamie! That is quite an accomplishment. You remind me of a saying an old writing teacher of mine had, "there is no such thing as a final draft".

    My favorites of this episode are: 3 - 5 - 6 - 10 - 12 - 13 - 16 & 17. Congratulations on this huge accomplishment, it is definitely not an easy task. Your work is amazing. I do not do a lot of portrait sessions, my main work is too intensive in time, and is difficult to found people willing to just take pictures, normally they have a very specific goal or aesthetic, I like to do it, but sometimes I wish to take more than business photos and replicate Pinterest findings. Greetings from Mexico.

      Thank you, and I appreciate that! I hope you are able to figure out some opportunities you can make portrait photographs in the near future. I often work with friends and people I'm around a lot, so hopefully you can find someone you see often that could help get the ball rolling.

    14 is my favorite. What a great accomplishment, congrats! Do you use your flash at full power and how do you meter with the light meter usually? No matter how much I meter and overexpose when working with flash I almost always end up with underexposed shots (I have Sekonic L-308) 🤦‍♀🤦‍♀🤦‍♀

      Thank you!! I usually shoot around 1/4 or 1/2 power if the bulb is basically bare with this slightly narrow-throw reflector... I may have gotten down as low as 1/16 or so on this shoot, actually. Everything would be doubled at least if I were using a softbox or umbrella, though. That's interesting about the exposure ... maybe the shutter speed winds up too slow? We can definitely talk it over and see if I can think of anything!

    Where did you get your models?

    • @JamieMPhoto
      @JamieMPhoto  6 месяцев назад

      Most of my models happen to be friends, and the ones that don't start that way are largely friends of friends who can vouch for me. If I contact someone who I can't see any direct contacts to, then I'll still refer them to a few people they can talk to independently of me. Doing that and providing examples of work and maybe basic ideas for doing a simple test shoot in a public place tends to work very well. I hope that helps at all!
