    It's tempting to time the market at times like these and it's scary when you look at all these indicators. But the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent, so we just have to stay invested. And when the market finally crashes, we go shopping. 👊

    I’m convinced that the market won’t crash when literally everyone is predicting that it will. I feel like it will crash after people start becoming convinced that it won’t.

  • @blablaba1871
    @blablaba1871 3 года назад

    You have to compare the earnings yield (inverted P/E) to the risk free interest rate you can get from bonds or a CD and look at the ratio between these. Using this metric a global index fund is still pretty cheap. For example during the dot com bubble in many countries or Japan in 1989 the earnings yield for their stock markets as a whole was LOWER than the risk free interest you could get from goverment bond. Then you go from investing to speculating in future price increases.

    Love the explanation. Another reason for the inflated pricing of the stock market is the money that US printed last year. Isn't it wierd that printing so much money, did not cause inflation? The truth is that, it did, just in a different place than usual.
    I also didn't like the misleading thumbnail. I'd point out that it's better if had "Time to Get Out?" in the thumbnail with a question mark. So that ppl don't assume based on your thumbnail.

    Hello ,
    My thinking 🤔 is this ....
    Don’t become extravagantly enthusiastic during those times when the market is running high but equally, don’t be despondent during the downturns. Take the long term view.
    Finally , Yes the prices of the Stockmarket are volatile, however the fundamentals are always benign .
    Take care

    We can say the market is overvalued, but finance is all about finding the highest return per unit of risk. There are no returns anywhere in the bond or commodity markets. So everyone is piling into stocks. The only thing that's going to burst this bubble is higher interest rates.

    I have to say Steve, this would be the first time I totally disagree with you. The S&P500 companies are expected to return $200 per share of earnings this year. If that's true we are not overvalued. Sorry Steve but I think you're just wrong here.
    Edit: so upon second look i see that earnings will not be $200 (that is the bull case but is very unlikely) it is closer to $165

    • @steveantonioni
      @steveantonioni  3 года назад +1

      No worries! I always appreciate others sharing their perspectives as well. It’s how we all learns and grow together! I assume you’re looking at forward PE ratio for the S&P?

      @@steveantonioni i am and upon second look it appears I overshot the estimate by about 30 dollars so quite a bit. That said, even if the analysts are correct and we have a year with earnings of $165 then we get a P/E of about 23 to 25.
      My bad lol

    I wonder what the percentage of people in the stock market is now vs 10 years ago.

    • @LisaCulton
      @LisaCulton 3 года назад +1

      Somewhat fewer people are investing now compared to 10 years ago. A lot of people panicked and sold during 2008 - 2009 and it took them a while to get back in, if at all. On the other hand, you have all these young investors like cash college who really only know the bull market that's been going on and on for almost 10 years and are jumping in all over the place.

  • @kenimprov
    @kenimprov 3 года назад

    Although interest rates are low, a return of 1 or 2 percent for such high risk is not a convincing argument to buy stocks. I went into the market a few months after the crash, but cashed out everything a few days ago. No one has ever gotten poor locking in profits. As a wise guy once said, "when the shoeshine boy starts giving stock tips, it's time to get out".

    There is a difference now comparing to 1929. In 1929 we had deflation, but now because of money printing, we will have inflation so that will keep the market from crashing (when you look at the dollar value). So the companies will value less in big mac value but in dollar value, they will not change because big mac price will increase due to inflation.

  • @mroberts112
    @mroberts112 3 года назад

    Good video. Its doesn't have to be an all in or all out. You could keep 80% in the market and keep 20% cash to use as a hedge in case the market crashes. You could use that 20% to buy any correction or as a way to avoid not being in a position where you might need to sell if there was a crash. To me its all about risk management. At the moment some ppl are predicting a crash while others are suggesting this boom is just getting started. That all said it so reminds me of the dot-com bubble in terms of people wanting to enter the market at these peaks but I believe the market dynamics are quite different, and this money printing seems to have no end in sight.

    • @reformedchinesecommunist
      @reformedchinesecommunist 3 года назад +1

      Solid analysis. I find it kind of eerie when the only logical analysis of the stock market is basically : keep piling your money into stocks because there is no alternative (with any genuine yields) or prepare for the largest bubble correction in world history lol. I know there is a middle road that may happen in there but it does seem to be setting up an eventual, mega correction that will either be caused by sudden In confidence in the “financial system” (very bad) or a forced raising of rates by the fed due to inflation getting out of control (somewhat less bad ?) but logically , at its core, one of these outcomes MUST come to fruition in the future. When in the future.? ...an essential answer to a impossible question.
