I once stayed up (and outside) all night for Yule. I looked at the stars, listened to seasonal music on my headphones (my neighbors are very close -- they probably wouldn't have appreciated me singing into the wee hours!) and thought about the Wheel of the Year, and the start of the new cycle. Then, at about 3:00 in the morning, I saw two gorgeous meteors streak across the sky!
I would live to do this this year! Not outside, because my family doesnt celebrate Yule, but trying to stay up throughout the night just thinking about things and appreciating things! This is my first year celebrating Yule, so I'm very excited!
In Persian culture, we celebrate the longest night of the year and we call it Yalda. We usually eat pomegranate and nuts for good luck and strength. All of our traditional holidays are based on the sun and earth movements such as our new year (March 21) or Yalda (December 21) .
Thank you for including Amaterasu-sama. Thank you for including a more global pantheon than commonly mentioned. I wish you a happy, safe and healthy Yule. Thank you for all you do.
I've been busy making crochet ornaments and garland to decorate our tree and windows. My son and I will be making chocolate pretzels with holiday sprinkles tomorrow. And I'm making a bunch of cookies Monday and Tuesday. We're hosting a little party and ritual on Wednesday to exchange gifts.
Wow I am so inspired by this content! I had never heard of the 12 nights of Yule!!! Nor Yule's Eve/Mothers Night!!! I love this so much! Looking forward to using the ideas you presented here. Definitely want to make some handmade gifts and mulled wine and the Yule Logs and Pine Cones. Thank you and Blessed Be!
Happy Yule and Merry Christmas. Have a blessed solstice. Happy New Year too. I have drank egg nog, eat gingerbread cookies, decorated my Christmas tree, and sung some carols. I also love games at Christmas and yule.
That video was so beautiful and informative. I didn't know about all those things and next year I hope to celebrate like that. Who was the goddess that was holding the fox? I put up a 3 foot fake tree with birds, snowflakes, hearts and a Santa. Tiny colored lights and a red bow with fake icicles. Made a gingerbread lighthouse. Put up 4 Christmas cards and a felt poinsettia wreath and a paper bag cardinal a made. Listened to carols and sang along. Then visited my elderly parents. Ate and gave gifts. Then I walk around in nature outside to enjoy it as well. That's all I knew to do. My cat enjoyed the tree. We enjoyed each other.
Thank you so much! I have never heard of Mother's Eve ... and the explanation of days between Yule and end of year. I love that! I am already thinking about how I can do daily rituals then. What a wonderful way to end this difficult year!
This is my second year as a witch and second time celebrating yule, only now have i written a page on it in my book of shadows as well as my plans and some crafts. Im excited!
Lovely video.. I plan to make mushroom ornaments for friends and family. Mushrooms being representational to the special mead which was made during this time.. And Ancient norse shamans would go about their business of bring ing about the realms of spirit closer for each to feel connection to while maintaining the reverence to each God and Goddess during the 12 days. I light candles for each day, and Offer my thanks and gratitude for the gifts this past year has taught me. With my child we say a small prayer each night while lighting the candle. And of course your video has offered more suggestions to incorporate. I love it. 🙏
Just an idea if all of us can get together and make a white candle with hysop , frankincense oil and the herbs to help cure all of us of this pandemic/ stressful time. Not only in our lives but with the government. Hysop cures us of sickness.. and frankincense for all the grounding we will need to achieve good health.
@RavenPoe just finished my candle last night. Use whatever you have on hand even if it's opening up a bag of tea. The intention is the power. I'm going to do this for several weeks until the end of the year. And then some.
Did you mean the saint Lucia? On December 13th, girls and women embody her with a crown of fire and a red sash as she walks across Sweden to bring light in the dark.
Hi Nordic Respite! Actually I was thinking last night about my response and one small correction would be that as I recall , she was an ancient ROMAN goddess...i just googled to find ( I would absolutely provide you a link to actual articles but I’m afraid that is just not in my wheelhouse...sorry!) All best!
I'm catholic but my family comes from all over I feel distant in the religion I'm in I stared to learn witchcraft I want learn about other things instead of being trapped in what I am many family members don't support my decision what should I do?
Interestingly all the gods listed are females (not sure did these came from paganism, not much educated in religions and so), yet Christianity, Catholicism and other religions are based on male personas. Please excuse me if wrong but assuming Goddess 'worshiping' (if you can call it that) is much more ancient. I wonder what happened through out the history that it changed. Of course I understand some religions include females like Indian and Asian perhaps? Maybe I'm wrong and misinterpret the whole thing. But to me it seems that way.
I get what you mean. Nowadays we say that it is the first day of winter. For celtic traditions it was midwinter, cause there was no fall or spring, only summer and winter. Depends on the viewpoint - today or in previous times
Ok sorry for my ignorance, I didn’t realise geographically alternate dates I guess. Here in the UK Winter runs from 1 Nov to April 30th, then Summer runs from May 1st to October 31st, Samhain which means “Summer’s Death”, so June 21st although not technically in the middle, is known as Midsummer and December 21st is Midwinter. Yule was usually more like a month long celebration not just on the winter solstice.

Ahh, wait, quick question? Did you stay up the night before Yule or the night of? As in, the night before, so you would stay up till Yule?

Lucina is the ancient Swedish Goddess of Light, thought to be the prototype for Christian Saint Lucy or Lucia.
@@hazelstream.5236 Do you have any sources of that? I'm Swedish and have never of her. Nor do I find anything but a Greek goddess with that name.

I thought the 12 days of Christmas 🎄 started on the 25th and ended on Jan 6th (Epiphany)? Anyway, interesting video. Merry Christmas 🤶 🎄 😊
You don't happen to be mickie mueller are you? your voice sounds just like hers.
I looked her up and she has her own channel on RUclips! But no, I am not her!
@@MagicalCrafting Yeah, i was confused because she hasn't posted in a month. You and her sound so much alike its nuts!
Winter solstice is NOT the start of winter, it’s called MID-Winter Solstice for a reason

Where I live it is 100% the first day of winter
