Hi friends! Just an update since I see a few asking. It’s perfectly safe that I used the branches in the pots. I suppose rather than diseased I should have just said “dead” The scale feeds on living plants, so they weren’t present on the branches I removed. And I am just playing it extra safe to not add the material back into my raised beds as compost material. The braches will come out and be replaced for Summer. The branches are covered in lichen, but that’s perfectly safe and won’t harm the daffodils or contaminate the soil. Lichen tends to grow on plant matter that is dying or decomposing. If the tree died from a bacterial or viral infection, then I would pitch them all together.
Laura, it’s wonderful to see you back! I’ve missed seeing your videos. I think you should leave the lights on the boxwoods outside the greenhouse. Nice to see you enjoying your greenhouse and all the beautiful things you have growing in it. 💚
I just love your garden! You have an amazing ability to design your space and have lovely plant combinations. Please continue to share your beautiful garden with us.
So glad to see you again Laura! I love your vlogs and your garden has always brought me so much inspiration. I’ve been praying for you in case you were in a tough season….. So glad to see you and can’t wait to see your gardens when the time is right! I’ll be waiting friend. 👩🏻🌾🌷❤️😊
Hello Laura, Welcome back, l have missed you and your videos, your garden has changed and I can't wait to see things when they start to bloom, I love your lights in the garden at night 🤗, 💕 and 🙏
Passion flower is so fun and easy. It’s hardy too. It’ll drop its seeds from the bean pods in the fall and you’ll have seeds to share with friends and neighbors. At least that’s purple hyacinth bean which is also called passion flower
Ahhh! I grow the purple hyacinth beans every year on my arbor. Love them. Those are an annual for me. This one is a Passiflora. 💜
It’s so good to see you again. It’s been awhile! Hope to see you more often!
What a great surprise this morning to see your video! I love your garden and your greenhouse. The lights are warm and inviting. Looking forward to many more garden talks from you!
Good morning Ann! ☀️💜 thank you so much for watching and the nice message. I was worried everyone might have forgotten me. Been far too long! Hope you are doing wonderful!

I totally understand! I haven’t posted in a loooooooong time so you barely missed a thing. Hope you are feeling more refreshed and thinking about groeing again! Glad you’re here! 💜

Hi, Laura! It’s really warm here this week in SC. Praying my winter sown poppies do not die! They just sprouted yesterday. It’s great to see you!💗
Hi Dawn! 💜 it is warm here too. I think your poppies will be just fine. 😃 if they are sprouting that’s so exciting. Winter sowing was the only way I was ever able to grow them. Happy almost Spring!

Haha never could forget you sweetie. You don't know how good you are at RUclips. Always worth waiting for. Everyone good here. Hope by you as well 😊
Good to see you 😃. Erin did a wine and weeds a few day's ago..I left a comment about where you were so see how suprised and happy to see you. I only do youtube . Everything looks nice. I liked the evening part ❤
So nice to see you back!
I had a 6in grocery store lemon cypress that i had for 4.5 yrs and got to be almost 4 ft tall. Id been promising him and finally got him transplanted in a huge pot this fall by my potting shed. He was happy... until we had below 0 temps here in the southeast. Even tho I covered him good in pine needles and cloth... Harry didnt make it. Ugh! Broke my heart. Lol Ikr lol
Glad to see you back on RUclips! I’m not on any other social media and had wondered what you’ve been up to. Glad you are well, sorry about your tree! You’re so right about there being joy and sadness in gardening but that’s how it goes. I vote yes to keeping the lights up! They look so warm and inviting!
I’m so glad to be back! Thank you for watching and being patient. I was afraid all my friends would forget me! 💜 hope you’re doing wonderful and planning for Spring.
I really missed you. Glad to see you.

Wow ! What a Beautiful Garden and Greenhouse you have ! Love your style ! Had to subscribe 🥰🥰❤❤
I can’t wait to play outside!! 🌸🌸🌸
Oh boy, me too!!!!!
Yes! Leave the lights! At least through spring. They bring such a magical quality to the garden. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Laura, it's so great to see you back here! I've missed you and your absolutely charming garden. Definitely keep the lights up. They're so pretty, especially reflecting of the greenhouse.
Joyce, thank you so much! It feels so nice to share the garden again. I definitely will keep the lights. Hope you are doing great and getting ready for Spring! 🌷🌷
I've missed you Laura!! Your greenhouse is my dream. It's a dreamhouse!!! Everything looks so lovely. Where did you get your potting bench that's next to your orange tree? Can't wait for more videos!
Your greenhouse looks like it’s your big-girl playhouse! It’s snowing in Robbinsville and I have some daffodils in bloom. Tuesday we had a tornado, that’s really crazy weather. Now that your tree is gone you can create a native butterfly garden and reduce the lawn . Stihl products are American made - Hurray! and Happy gardening to us all.
Yesssss! When I got the chainsaw that was really something I look for. Thank you for such a nice message. Happy almost Spring!
Beautiful
I’m new to your channel and I AM so glad I found you, I love love love your backyard it is gorgeous, your green house is gorgeous I am looking to learn, thank you for sharing this beautiful and wonderful space and I’m looking to see it during the day!!!!!
Such a wonderful thing to read. Thank you so much Janice! I’ll have an update (in daylight 😆) up within the week.
Wonderful to see you Laura, I love your garden.
It almost looks like a bunny nest near the base of the tree you cut down. The babies are in a shallow divet in the ground covered with some hair and plant debris usually
Oh yes! I’ve found many nests. One was in my raised beds. 😆 so cute. Around thd tree is some Heuchera that got a bit smashed. I hope to save some, it’s from my parents garden. 💜
Nice to see you on RUclips again. I'm not on Instagram so I miss you!!
Gretchen thank you! It is good to be back on and reconnect again. 💜💜
That little greenhouse is so perfect! Just goes to show bigger isn't always better and it doesn't clash with the style of your house. Your yard is a beautiful suburban oasis!
Ahhhhh! You’re super nice! Thank you. This made me smile!!! 😃😃😃
Thanks for sharing. I look forward to more videos. However, I understand it’s life and you have to prioritize.
Thank you! 💜 it is hard to juggle but I’d love to find at least one day a week to come on and share. I’m glad you are still here. 🌷🌷
Nice 👍🏿
Welcome back! I'm going to try growing passsion flower in my deck container this year. Sorry about your tree but it gives you a chance to try something new. Bonny zone 5b Canada
Good to see you yes the lights are nice so sorry about the loss of you tree you’re yard is still beautiful
Hi Laura! Yes! I love the lights on the boxwoods and they should stay up all year! Everything is looking beautiful. It has been super warm here in Georgia, and the garden is waking up. Here’s to a glorious Spring 💐🌸🌷🌹🌺
My friend! I love that you are here. I’m afraid it was a pretty hum drum of a video but I want to get back at it. You know I have big plans! 😘💜 I can’t wait to see your pretty shed in all its Spring glory.
Well you know my friend, every painting can’t be the Mona Lisa. I love all your content, and they all can’t be a big reveal. We also learn from the little steps that get us to the big reveal. Thank you for that!
Good to see your post, your greenhouse looks so neat and inviting, my potting shed is a hot mess during the winter…crowed with the plants I try to winter over. Always wonder if it’s worth it. Thank you for the tour.
A pleasure. How those sprinters grew. Impressive. Love the greenhouse.
Laura, I was jonesing for some garden content, so I was so happy to see this video! Even in the dark, during winter, your garden looks wonderful! I'm in Union Co. NJ, do you expect this warm winter means we are in for another very hot, dry summer again? Last year was brutal!
Hi Molly!! Oh gosh, I’m so glad you’re here still. It’s been a loooooong time since I’ve posted. Thank you so much for the nice compliment. I’m aching to get out in thd warm again. But, I do think it’s going to be a scorcher, which I am not ever a fan of. Ugh.
It HAS been a while! So good to see you and your garden. Sorry about your ornamental plum tree. Your greenhouse is absolutely AMAZING. It's beautiful inside and out! Hope we see you on the regular again. Miss your videos! 🌿🌱
I like the dusk tour with the garden lights on. Very pretty. I'm in CT and winter here is also unusually warm. Wondering what this summer will bring 🤔 Take care Laura
Thanks Denise! 💜💜
So happy to see a new video! Have missed you! Always enjoy you and your yard!
Good to see you once again! You have been missed but we understand life happens. Sorry about the tree buy you were right-gardening is a learning process and I LOVE that!
Nice to see you again! Your greenhouse looks so cozy.
Good morning from North Carolina, you are one of my favorites. I so enjoy your videos. Please try to do more. I have followed you from the start. Love your enthusiasm for gardening. You inspire me. I'm in zone 7B. Please please more videos!
Good morning! This truly touches my heart Margie. Sometimes I wonder if anyone is interested or if I’m just talking to the wind. 😆 but then I have nice people like you say something so sweet and it means so much. I love gardening so much, and sharing it makes me so happy. Thank you for being here! Hope you have a great day! xx
I just love all your pottery and planters you have in your green house! so pretty! I decorate primitve so i LOVE the one crock pitcher looking one with the blue stripe and handle. Where did you find that? Love your potting bench too!
I was excited to see you posted a video! Yes leave the lights on the bushes! So sorry you lost your tree. I love the dusk tour!
👍😊💚🌿
Yes to leaving the Christmas lights on the boxwoods. This video was giving Me McGregor vibes.
Haha! This made me laugh out loud. 😆💜🐇🐇🐇
So great to see you here again. Your “dark” garden looks great! Very sad about your tree, but it was time. I don’t like to cut trees down but sometimes it’s necessary. And It’s definitely faux spring. I’ve got snow again (but I am 3 hours north of you)
It’s so sad to lose a tree. But I will plant more. Snow! You know I looked at the weather app and saw a snowflake coming up in the next week. Stay warm! 💜☀️
@@HowsItGrowing you stay warm too and thanks so much for sharing- love your videos!
It’s great to see and hear from you , Laura , will you replace the tree with another one ? If yes , what kind of tree are you considering?
Hi Amy! Thank you for being here! You know, I’m still not sure. I think rather than plant in that same space again, I’ll probably plsbt more trees around the perimeter of the yard. It gave great shade to our family room though, so I wonder what summer will feel like.
I love the lights on the boxwoods. I say why not all summer?
👍👍 I’m going to leave them! Thank you!
Glad I watched it’s been awhile.
Was excited to see your video this morning. Your garden is about the same size as mine here in KS. Love your greenhouse and leave the lights on the boxwood. You have a wonderful collection of pots in your greenhouse.
Hi Phyllis, Good morning! I was hoping my familiar friends didn’t forget about me. 😆💜 thanks so much for watching. I hope you had a good Winter, ready for planting!
What a WONDERFUL greenhouse you have! Beautiful with the variety of plants! If the plum tree had pests, aren't you afraid of impacting the soil that your placed sticks from it? Beautiful garden and home and THRILLED to see you again! Some of my dahlias were planted late last summer and some are in pots, I'm hoping they'll survive this warm winter.
Hi there! Thank you! With the scale, they are dead and gone. But they would return again soon if the tree were still standing. They wouldn’t feed on the dead branches, and I made sure there were no signs of them on the ones I clipped. It wasn’t bacterial or viral, which would be of concern and I’d just get rid of them. I definitely didn’t want to chance it by adding into compost situation for my raised beds though. These are just temporary and I’ll switch out with summer plants. 💜☀️
Love the greenhouse. Wish I had one.
You must have heard me thinking of you! Great to see you!!
Hi Jill! 💜 thank you!!! Hope you’re doing great!
...I was too, actually!... 🤗❤️👩🏼🌾💚 =^..^=
Me, too! Happy almost spring!
There is a very good reason to commit "crape murder". If a crape myrtle is planted next to a foundation, pollarding it will maintain the root size. (They looks a little unsightly for about two months but they are fast growers.) Otherwise, they don't need to be pruned. Just plant them away from sidewalks and driveways. The seeds that drop can be slippery and really messy. I've never seen one on standard, how cool! All the ones that I see here in North Carolian are multi trunk. I can't wait to see the purple clouds! Love your channel!
This is true! My neighbors hard prune because they are on the curb line! Good point, thank you for mentioning it! I’ve never seen them single trunk. I’ll be very curious to see how they grow since I know they can get top heavy especially after rain. Thank you so much for watching! 💜
In the Boston area here, 60 degrees yesterday, it is snowing this morning! I always love when your videos pop up, I'm zone 6b and your yard is a similar size to mine so you are so relatable! (As much as I love all the gardens I follow!) Yay to spring....I'm ready!!
Hi Christie! See that, I’m getting excited too fast again. 😆 I just saw a snowflake on my forecast. You just never know. Thank you for such a nice message. I appreciate it, and you being here. Hoping you have a beautiful Spring! 🌷🌷🌷
I have a passion flower vine planted outside in my zone 6a garden. So far it has come up every year but it does like to spread quite a bit.❄️💚🙃
Ooooooh. Good to know! I didn’t realize it could take the colder weather. I bet it is BEAUTIFUL!!
Saw the bunny!
Okay, I wrote that before she filmed it and talked about it 😂
Where did you get your two wooden workbenches on the left when you walk in? They're lovely.
Thank you! They are from the company I ordered the greenhouse from BC Greenhouses. My husband added wood to the bottom of the shelf’s to hold my flower pots.
@@HowsItGrowing Thanks! We just built a BC Greenhouse similar to yours (10x12) and your video helped us make some decisions. Thanks again!
Good Tuesday morning! 🙋🏼♀️ It's naturegirl plus 4 sevens (I can't properly type my whole handle, because then this comment will probably get deleted) 🤷🏼♀️ What a treat this morning to take a tour of your beautiful greenhouse and backyard. For sure, in nearby Maryland (6b) winter hasnt been normal! I say keep the lights on your boxwoods for over summertime. I hear ya', about the meter spinning with your greenhouse heater(s)! How are you set up for electricity in the greenhouse? I spied a beautiful yellowware pitcher -- is that a modern-day Rowe Pottery piece? Everything is just beautiful, Laura! Keep the inspiration coming! 🙏🙌🤗👩🏼🌾💚 =^..^=
Hi Laura, I vote for leaving the Christmas lights on the boxwoods. I live about 100 miles north of you and we haven't very much of a winter, temperatures well above average and almost no snow ( maybe 3 or 4 inches ) total all winter.
27 days till spring!!!
Hi!! I just saw a snowflake on the forecast coming up. I love how it waits and happens just as plants are coming up. 27 days! 🥳
I believe all of those branches have scale. Please reconsider disposing off every last bit of that plum tree.
It’s really ok. 💜 I picked all healthy looking branches with no visible sign of scale. They will only be in for a short period. This particular scale begins its lifecycle in June. These will be long gone by then.
Wonderful to see you again. As a fellow NJ gardener, your space is inspiring. Quick question, are the lattice trellises a DIY project or a purchase? If a purchase, would you mind sharing? I ask because I have a looonnng white vinyl fence and I'm trying to break up all of the white and that's a great solution! Thanks!
Hi there! I’m so happy to be back and that you didn’t give up on me. 😆 Thank you! The black lattice trellis are by a company called Achla. I got them from lowes a few years ago online. I’m sure if you were to search up Achla trellis it would definitely still come up. That’s exactly why I got it too. So much white glare, this helps! 💜🌷
I had an ornamental plum that got sick and died but for a couple of years it made delicious little plums, I suppose it was trying to make offsprings before it died! I wasn’t too heartbroken as I’d only paid about $10 or$15 for it but it was pretty! I sure would like to have a few of them at my current home, we’ve got 5.5 acres now with lots of large trees but none have that beautiful color that ornamental plums have😍
Aren’t they just beautiful? The flowers are so pretty, and the fruits. The leaf color stole my heart. I think you may have convinced me without even trying to plant another one. 😆💜
Things looks wonderful in the greenhouse ….so hopeful for spring 🌱🌱🌱. Is it okay to use the diseased branches in your pots and baskets? I hope so.
Loved loved your video! Made my day. ❤
I’m so glad it did. Good morning! Thank you for watching. 💜
Where did u get your covers for your water features? Love your gardens. Thank you
Thank you! 💜 I got the online from Home Depot. Amazon also has fountain covers.
I saw at the end of the video that it looks like you added a peak at the top of the door that I do not remember seeing before. Was this a add on? I ask because we have gotten a quote this month from the same company but had decided to build from wood because we wanted a vestibule in our green house because of how we have to situate it on our property and it was not cost effective.
Hi Dorothy! Yes we added that overhang on after.
Hello, I have watched your last video a few times, and I noticed your heater, I ordered it and got it today, it’s working great in my greenhouse. Love your bird house, may I know where I can order that too! Leave your lights on the boxwoods all year, 19:42 19:43 so quaint. Hope to hear from you
Hi! Very good to hear about your heater. I think it does a really good job. The birdhouse was bought at a local shop many years ago. But I can recommend Good Directons online. I’ve gotten other birdhouses from them, great company and similar styles to this one. Thank you! 💜
Oh Thank you so much, I had one built by my dad who has since passed unfortunately and it finally had to come down before it fell down. I will check out your recommendation.
I so wish I could have this but I’m zone 5a so keeping a greenhouse at 40 degrees in the winter would be astronomically expensive. 😭
It would. 🥹 but you could look into solar panels for heat. Or a little pellet or wood burning stove. 💜
@@HowsItGrowing I love the idea of solar panels!!!
New to your channel and I absolutely love your terracotta pots that have a stamp on them. I would love to order a few, can you share where you got them. Are they Wakefield?
Hi!! Thank you so much! Good eye! They are by Wakefield Handmade. Peter and I have become good friends over the years and if you shop from his page he gave me a coupon to share (I’m not paid, no commission, but love him and his art) “howsitgrowing” code for 10% off. He sells out quickly, but he makes new batches every couple months. 💜🌷
Oh thank you so much I will inquire, still really cold here in Puyallup Washington. I have a greenhouse like yours and I could spend all day in there. Lol. Enjoying your videos.
Hi Laura! I just finished building a BC Greenhouse! I wanted to ask you how deep are the shelves that you added and where did you get the L brackets?
Hi Cindy! I’ll have to measure. They were cedar boards Marc got from Home Depot. The brackets were from Amazon. I’m so happy you got your greenhouse. All the best to you! Enjoy it! 💜
Is the greenhouse single or double pane?
Single
