If the lid still won't unlock after you plug it in; Unplug it, reach down into the lid latch hole, press and hold the small white tab on the left, and then try plugging it in again. It should unlock after a few seconds. Figure it's worth mentioning since I thought mine was broken at first because it wouldn't unlock lol
Thank you so much! I thought I was going to have to spend 700 on a new washing machine, but your video was so simple, I got it all done myself, and now my washer is working again!!
I will try the replacement tomorrow. After looking at several other videos I can understand everything you did and your video more closely resembles my washer. I believe I can do this replacement now.
Best step by step video and did fix the problem. Saved lots of time and money. Wish I would have found this sooner and maybe a step by step diagnostic video?
The only thing you could have told us is fact that when you push the top section to the front the hooks holding this section has two hooks on each side and you have to move it around till it unhooks. It took me a while to get it up and then was able to use my strap with hooks to hold the section vertical, the one with the lid. Thanks I got my switch installed.
Thanks for a perfectly clear demonstration. But I'm not washing yet. The part came locked and the lid won't close. I tried hitting reset, and unplugging, but no success. The "lid locked" light is lit. Is there anything I can do to unlock the part to allow the lid to close?
@@ayrtoncrowley6457 Thank you for following up. After a few hours of trying everything I could think of, I was leaning on the lid thinking and the latch opened. l in the end, my wife decided she wanted a new washer so out it went. I have no doubt a qualified person could have fixed it though.
If you remove the black cover on the lid lock switch, you can then unlock the mechanism inside the housing. You'll have to fiddle with it a bit and study it but that's how I did it. Be careful when prying the black cover off that the coil inside the switch doesn't come lose. I.E. pull off the black cover very carefully and slowly and with the black cover facing upwards.@@michaelnicholson572
Thank you for your video just replaced our but the lid lock is still not working. When I’m running diagnostic code it still giving the lid lock switch code not sure what else to do washer just going to was cycle and not finishing 😢
Simon, help me please. the top of my washer will only slide 1/4 inch. The back of the top can be picked up, but I can't fix it ththis way. What can I do?
Hey, I just watched your video to repair the assembley, but the "lid lock" light keeps blinking after I installed the new assembley. What did I do wrong?
You can double check to make sure the part was installed properly. If that is good, you can get your model number and call us at 1-877-477-7278 and we can provide more troubleshooting.
I replaced the lid lock with a genuine part but the new installed lid lock does not unlock, I tried going to diagnostic mode and clearing the code a few times but no success. I tried holding the white tab down unplug/plug in but still no luck. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
@appliancepartspros . The code I am getting is F41, E21 which means Door unlock fault. The new installed lid lock stays in the locked position and does not unlock, I tried unplugging and holding down the white tab and plugging it back in and waiting 30-40 secs but no luck. When the machine powers on it blinks Lid Lock a few times and then turns off.
Great video. The idiots at Maytag should be ashamed of such a stupid setup. The lid-lock tab is extremely fragile and prone to snapping off. Then your 2 mo old washer won't work. I'm going to remove this stupid feature, but wasn't sure how to open the cabinet. I'm sure this is the first of many failures for this Maytag machine. Thanks for your instructions.
If your washer is that new you may want to try and reach out to Maytag and see if that part has a warranty on it. The manufacturer normally offers some sort of warranty on their appliances.
@@appliancepartspros thank you for the response. I suspect it isn't worth the effort. I ordered a pack of replacements for about 6 bucks each, and jammed the broken one into the switch while we wait. Not worth 2 hours on hold😀 Thanks again.
These people and their safety bull crap… They do it to control you and make you accept the control. In 30 years I’ve never heard of a kid taking a spin in a laundry washer. Now all of a sudden this is a problem… My kid lock broke and I couldn’t use my 1500 dollar washer and they wanted 130 bucks for the part. Well Whirlpool can go fish! I bypassed their bs switch. Soon they will make us store kitchen knives in a gun safe or some crap. How about all the EMI and RF radiation emitted by the smart meters and all the wi-fi washing machines talking with the smart meter? All that must be all safe. lol
Are you near your washer because that looks like the start of the model. We would need to have the full model number from off your machine in order to be able to assist you.
I have a maytag. Put the top in the up pos like he shows and pop the metal pins on the switch panel underneath w a flathead pushing down. Careful the switch panel is connected. Then u can access the pin.
Thank you so very much.
I live in a rural area.
I ordered the part, watched your video 4x, and changed it out myself-AND it works!!!!
Yippee 😍
How much did it cost

I have a Maytag washer. Does the lid lock light need to be on in order for the machine to move from sensing/filling to washing?
The lid lock light should come on when the lid locks as it's advancing through the cycle.
Thanks so much man.

If you replaced the lid lock and it didn't fix the issue, you could be having an issue with the control board itself.

Does the washer have to be reset or recalibrated? Still doesnt start. Just lights up. No water runs either. Help.
ever figure it out?
No in moth balls for now. Lol

I've had to replace it 2xs in 3 months. What's causing them to go or should I chalk it up to a bad replacement part?
Best video ever
Thank you!
So you say that the lid will close once you plug it in... what if it doesn't close once plugged in? What do I do then?
What do you mean doesn't close? Is the lid closing all the way but not locking like it should? What is your model number?
