if you're using MSI laptop, goto msi centre > features>general settings > disable display power saver. It also helps to keep it in 144hz even if the laptop is plugged off.

If your display doesn't keep the refresh rate you picked after reboot (shut down/restart), then go to Settings > Display adapter properties > Adapter > List All Modes > Choose the resolution and refresh rate you want for your monitor.

Does anyone know how to select a custom refresh rate? My laptop only has 60 or 360 Hz and i wanna use 144 Hz so it runs smoth and it doesnt drain the battery out. I know in desktops pc you can change it easily, but i cant find the way on any laptop. I´m using nvidia btw

i have a GF63 10UD msi laptop with 144hz screen and i got an MSI 180hz screen to get more hz but in windows display setting i can only use 120hz out of the 180hz of the monitor is there a way to use more then 120hz or is that the limit of my laptop's output?

You need to change the refresh rate by selecting the external monitor. It shows display one and display two. Choose display to and change the refresh rate.
