Lora McKune, Our December Shining Star 2023!

Lora was anonymously nominated for the Shining Star Award after a non-HHH employee shared an interaction between Lora and a patient’s guardian. This individual came in as a guardian to the patient - not the patient themself - yet Lora’s nursing intuition told her to ask the simple question of ‘how are you doing?’ She went on to share with Lora some personal information and that she was going through an extremely rough time in her life. Lora showed compassion by taking the time to talk to her, listen to her, and give her words of encouragement.
This individual left feeling so appreciative that she was able to talk to someone without judgment. How compassionate, empathetic, and absolutely beautiful it is that someone can take the time out of their busy schedule to connect with another human being simply because it is the right thing to do. This person was so moved and appreciative of Lora's kindheartedness that she felt compelled to share her experience with management. Lora effectively demonstrates the true meaning of being a nurse.
