Thank you for all for your questions so far! I hope to answer as many of them as I can in my #10k special! And of course, thanks for watching the video
One classical piano performance which has more views is the moonlight sonata 3rd movement by Valentina Lisitsa.
You've missed it! More than 20million views
ruclips.net/video/LdH1hSWGFGU/видео.html
I play clarinet, and I'm not sure exactly why that version of the clarinet concerto is super popular. Her tone is indeed quite good, but I think the main reason why it's so popular is because the Mozart concerto is probably the most popular thing written for clarinet, and that whenever you search up the piece, that recording is the first one that appears; don't get me wrong though her playing is still super good. I personally like Sabine Meyers version of the concerto the best.
This makes a ton of sense. Some people like pulling up the top viewed video anyway because they think it's the best or they're lazy lol. I hope other performances get some more love hahaha
@@PiergiorgioWilson ok
I always get chills listening to Rachmaninoff!
Every time!
as a classical guitarist, its fun to see someone's first reaction to a classical guitar piece. by the way, we do actually pluck with our nails, and in order to get a clean and strong sound we usually file/sandpaper them to be smooth. anyways, fun video :)
Hilary Hahn had a performance of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with at least 20 million views but that video was sadly removed from RUclips (but later reuploaded). Of course now the reupload has significantly less views than before, so it couldn't qualify for this list. I went crazy over that recording when I was learning the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto a few years ago lol
Pro tip: you can sort searches by "view count" on RUclips! Doing that, I was already able to find 3 that break this top 5 list.
15M views: Seong Jin Cho, Chopin piano concerto No. 1
22M views: Valentina Lisitsa, Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody (what's with these performer's last names matching the composer's name?)
52M views: Lolol Astanova & Hauser, Moonlight Sonata
I tried that actually! Depending on what words you type for the search and then use the "view count" filter, you get different results I guess lol...
That Beethoven Sonata rendition gave me gamer rage.
I was surprised Lisistsa wasn't on here...
But the list is wrong. The four seasons has 245 million views
😁Her name is Ukrainian. It translates to "fox." Liszt was Hungarian.
Hey Piergiorgio, English music student here. I believe quite a large part of clarinet concerto's popularity comes from the fact that all music highschool students have to study the piece in their final year. Many students will be constantly refreshing and rewatching the video at all times.
Bro, Ana Vidovic is a legend. I respect her so much
Anna Fedorova's performance of Rach2 is a go-to version to show somebody new what the Rach2 sounds like - it's just at the top of the list. At the same time, I'd never look for this performance on purpose if I wanted to listen to the entire concerto at any given moment.
my favourites are richter's and rachmaninov himself
#10k For every composer, suppose we were allowed to send ONE performance back in time to a composer to show off how we've been playing their pieces since they died. What are some you would love to send back?
Hope you hit 10k soon!
rach would be PROUD!
Wow, that is a tough one. Although the composer himself would be very dissatisfied with my performance. I would send bach's fantasia and fugue in c minor for piano
i dont like fantasie impromptu that much but definetly id want to show chopin how successful it was
I'm a classical guitarist and it makes me happy to see a classical guitarist at #1. Ana Vidovic is an amazing performer and the tremolo technique she uses is perfect. As for the nails question, yes, classical guitarists do get their nails done to be able to pluck the strings more easily!
Hi Piergiorgio. Actually Asturias by Albéniz is originally part of what it might be the most important solo piano piece of Spanish classical repertory: Suite Iberia, and what you showed is an arrangement (very popular, probably most that the original) for classic guitar, the canonic one by Andrés Segovia (there are a few others). Take a listen to Suite Iberia original in piano. it, is worth it, quite hard to play indeed, and there are many other beautiful passages. Ana Vidovic, btw, is a very respected classic guitar performer. Her million views are well desserved.
10k. I was on ur transcendental etudes live stream😂😂😂. Btw. And I love the vids. What is the hardest stuff you play. Would you ever consider recording for the channel. (Or Scriabin sonata 5) that would be tough. All love bro. Keep up the great work!
i play asturias on the piano and i had no idea that it was famous or it was for guitar lmao
I’m really happy to answer that! So in classical guitar, most people (including me) only have nails on the right hand because nails bring more power to the cord you’re plucking (it’s a real dilemma because too much nails sounds very cold and doesn’t bring much to the sound but too short nails lack of power but have a very warm tone).
However the way we pluck the string is kind of a mix between flesh and nail, so we also have a weird shaped nail
Also I wanted to add, ana vidovic is a great player and this performance got so well knowned that now this piece gets like a little bit annoying because everyone talks about it outside the classical guitar world 😅
@@defo3750 Astúrias W A S my favorite song before i learned it.

Loved it 💙
Shared with my 14 year old grandson who loves classical music💙
Calling yo yo ma the goat is hilarious, instant sub from me
Guitarists are indeed mental about their fingernails in the best possible way. It's good practice to have nail files on hand in practice, rehearsal if they're in a guitar ensemble, and performance.
Albeniz has some fanstastic and very underrated piano music.
Yes, classical guitar is normally played with long finger nails on the plucking hand and on the fretting hand the nails are cut short to allow pressing the strings.
Hoi Piergiorgio, nice pieces you found! Great to listen at ❤.
Maurice M.
lol i love rach 3 playing in the background of the rach 2 reaction xD
classical guitarist here ye it s nails. gitarists do all kind of stuff with nails (there are some playing without, so they decided to only play in the softer range (90 % i guess do nails)). and since 10 yers even artificil gel and acryl nails are done.... some artists as yamandu costa even do it before touring so they dont have to deal with broken nails on tour ( and he is concidered by many (incl me) as the best). heres a link where its explained if someone is interested.
Fingers crossed for your 10k mark.
Thanks for another great video! What’s the name of the gorgeous hall in which the Rach 2 is performed? Two incidental mentions to help your algorithm: Rachmaninoff’s grave is one I visit each year in Kensico Cemetery, and I always visit Ruth Laredo’s grave a few paces away. As you know, she was the first to record all of Rach’s solo piano literature. Miss Laredo requested to be buried within sight of Rachmaninoff; the Kensico staff was able to honor her wish.
Nice to see Bartok’s name on a balcony at 7:50 Bartok's final home is on my block (where he wrote the 3rd piano concerto). Google can show you his metal bust affixed to the building, which fans decorate each March 25th, Bartok’s birthday ʕ•́؈•̀ʔ
Surely, Piergiorgio knows the original piano score of Asturia (Leyenda). It's a fun piece to learn and play on the piano.
Shouldn’t piano synthesia be counted? Rousseau’s La Campanella has 37m views
You are defenently gonna be big. 10 000 subs is just the begining, btw do you play an instrument rn and if so for how long?
The best, all time performance, Mstislav Rostropovich, Strauss Don Quixote, 3rd movement. The death of Don Quixote. The sound, projection(he was backed by a full orchestra and could still be heard), expression, color, tone, on and on. It’s all there! As for nails. It’s mandatory to have them for playing classical music. It’s as equal to the requirement to use nylon strings on a classical acoustic guitar. You will NEVER see a professional classical guitarist use a pic. Each finger is labeled to show what finger to use on each string. The best example of this is using a technique called Tremelo which is what technique Ana Vidovic was using. Impossible to play that piece with a pic. In addition, you can’t hit E, D and E at the same time with a pic. U can hit EAD at the same time with a pic( it’s called a chord) but not individually. Two requirements that will never change, fingernail’s and a classical nylon string guitar. Both are mandatory.

How do you get your hair to such precise right-angled perfection?
(And what period of music do you reckon you listen to the least out of the 4 major periods?)
Hello I just wanted to say that ive been following since your rach short and I quickly understood that you would eventually become famous
As a 14 years old classical pianist it is heart warming to see that classical music has such wonderfull communities
Indeed I am very thankful that there are still big enough classical music communities out there.

Just kidding. What would you say are the 3 hardest and 3 “easiest” fugues in Book 1 of the WTC by Bach? Would like to heard you talk about Bach on the piano in general. Your channel‘s gonna be huge!! 😎
Lol, I was at one of Anna Fedorova's performances of Rachmaninoff's concerto and the orchestra is the local philharmonic of my city!

Air Johan Sebastiaan Bach - 75 mln views
You talk about the Mozart clarinet concerto while playing the Haydn D major piano sonata?
Regarding the nails, yes!
It’s part of the classical guitar art, learning how to do your own nails to have nice sound, and to not have them catch on the strings.
It’s tricky getting them perfect every time though, too short / long/ rough and it messes with you
#10K whats the hardest piano piece you have played/tried to play?
#10k What is your religious affiliation if any? And how does it affect your music life?
Classical guitar is always played with nails. They are essential.
For the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, you should listen to the second movement for the real magic!!

if you search for "classical music" on youtube and sort by most viewed, you get videos with many more views actually.
re the beginning of Beethoven's Ninth... Jan Swafford muses in his biography "Beethoven: Anguish and Triumph: that perhaps Beethoven wished to have this beginning sound like a bunch of individuals "doing their thing" and then uniting as one... like the overall message of the choral lyric.... "all men becoming brothers".
Personally I prefer Evgeny kissins performance of Rach 2

Where did you get this information from?
It impresses me that you, being so knowldegeble about classical music, didn’t know most classical guitarrists have long and thicc nails 😂

#10k what would you say is your favorite concerto of all time?
Lolll classical guitarists use their fingernails to pluck. Some people have weaker nails and regularly use fake/acrylic/gel nails and I think Ana is using one of those in that video. It’s also common to use some sort of fake nail if you’ve broken a nail. Normally I don’t know that Ana does use fakes- there are many videos of her playing with her natural nails. Also, Asturias was originally written for piano! So go check that out :) ALSO- the guitar is not that old of an instrument. The classical guitar as we know it today started sometime in the 19th century. The guitar did exist before then, but was not how we think of classical guitar today- it was quite a bit smaller. It originated from the Spanish vihuela… or at least that’s what I’ve learned in school 😅
11:54 "So she she got her nails done..." ....um, no, I think she's wearing a special thumb plectrum haha. There are lots of basic thumb plectrums out there .. but I think she just has a bling-y one.
That was the equivalent of saying "YO! I think this singer had their voice box surgically altered!" when in reality they're just using autotune on a live mic.
Good to know! Hahaha I've never heard of a thumb plectrum before 😂
@@PiergiorgioWilson That was a quick reply!
But yes, thumb plectrums are used a lot. I don't know how much they're "frowned upon" in the classical guitar world .... I think there must be many pieces that can't be played without them.
I feel like it would be like a violinist placing "fingerboard markings/pieces of tape" of their fingerboard so they don't miss important high shifts.
Again. I only now a but about guitar - played it for two years, and have played violin/viola for over 24 years.
I'm guessing (based on your reaction videos) that you're a classical pianist? :)
I’m a classical guitarist and I think it’s safe to say she’s using acrylic, gel, or some sort of fake nail in that video. Most classical guitarists use their natural nails but often if you break a nail or just have brittle nails in general, then using the acrylic or gel that is used in salons is pretty common for classical guitarists! If you watch other videos of Ana, you’ll see that she doesn’t always have something on her nails
#10k what’s your top 5 composers?
#10k what do u think of Horowitz, Rubinstein and Glenn Gould?
