What are the "cons" of doing implants? Wouldn't titanium be stronger and more expensive?

No dental coverage in Canada unless it is private and/or you pay out-of-pocket. That said; due to outrageous cost and my age; I opted for a full bottom denture with two implant posts to secure/hold them in which I have found to be very effective. During the procedure of extraction (by a Dental Surgeon) I also had to have some bone grafting done to accommodate one of them. Result from the latter, I was somewhat bruised and swollen for about five days but can honestly say experienced NO pain however in respect to the surgical sutures I did have some discomfort (tenderness) for about two weeks until the sites healed. Fast forward; four months later after the implant posts fused to the bone, what they refer to as abutments were added to the posts and then I was fitted with a 'permanent full denture' (which were lined with some type of mesh alloy to give them more strength which I am not sure is a common practice). *Note: During the interim I had a temporary denture which IMO was beneficial though some people prefer not to have one. To conclude; it is a lengthy process but well worth it and I would highly recommend a) go to a Dental 'Surgeon' to have the procedureS done b) for the denture(s) themselves eliminate the 'middle-man' and go to a Denturist who not only makes them but can do ANY adjustments on the spot unlike that of your Dentist who normally seeks the outside service of a Dental Lab anyways. (My Dental Surgeon and Denturist coordinated appointments.) Apologize for being so long winded but hopefully my experience will explain some of the procedure if opting for denture implants.
Footnote: I am not affiliated with any Denturist and even though I respect the profession of Dentists; I learned the hard way as an upper denture (prior to the extraction of my lower teeth) that my Dentist did (whom I was a patient of, for 20+ years) was so inferior that it was not only wasted money ... but .... because they were so ill-fitted I just couldn't chew properly and my overall health was affected after trying to adjust to them for a little more than year. (I literally lost count of the appointments all to no avail! Even my G.P. was becoming alarmed! ). Needless to say, lesson learned as two trips to the Denturist and without exaggeration it was 'the difference between night and day' and reason why it was the deciding factor to go to a Denturist for my lower ones.

Here's what the good Dr. failed to mention... Without getting to technical, Zirconia all on 4 overdentures are very nice and yes very, very hard. Which can result in any of the following.... By the numbers please..... 5. Your opposing dentition can wear out rather quickly, perhaps even damaging it even further 4. Mouths prefer a softer material i.e. lithium disilicate or an excellent denture tooth that wears 3. If you have periodontal disease, you better take care of that before you throw $15,000 to $20,000 down the drain 2. The understanding that your patient needs to conduct daily cleansing along with routine checkups to ensure that those implants are in good health. 1. The possibility that your implant may fail. Infact 60% of implants fail at the 6 to 9 year mark. Bottom line. Do your research, speak to an oral surgeon, get a few estimates and take care of the teeth you have......

I've got to have the rest of my teeth extracted and a temporary dentures then about 6 months later I will get another set. Aspen Dental gave me a free assessment and it's gonna cost me over $4,000 out of pocket after insurance has paid. I really don't understand the cost . I have no choice I had COVID-19 and ended up with Long Haulers syndrome. One of many of the symptoms I am losing my teeth; they are just falling out, decaying from gum up. Today I had the rest left on top and I’m only 54. S devastating!
I am in process of selling my rather large collection of pricey _Pricey keepsakes. This is so bittersweet it’s breaking my heart but this is not an inexpensive procedure.
With my own and many friends and families experience stay away from store front dentistry centers such as you mentioned. Your just asking for problems down the road!
Your local dental facility can do this and honestly I did so much research it’s only pennies more when all is said and done. Remember, nothing in life is “Free” it’s always made up somewhere in the cost, the other thing to keep in mind is the old saying “you get what you pay for” please keep that saying in the back of your head
Good luck and God Bless masks for me right now

I'm in Canada, and while there is health care here, there is no dental that the state pays for... I just paid 16k Canadian for a full set of removable snap in's on the bottom. They're not mini-implants, they're full sized implants, and they snap in and out, and have a support bar as well as the implants... My surgery was 10k Canadian, and then, a brand new upper standard denture, a lower that works with the implants, and a temporary lower while I healed was 5700. Honestly though, for a completely new mouth full of teeth, it was worth it. I can also claim this on my taxes, which is nice.

Apparently they don't do that in the USA anymore. (See bottom for TLDR)
WHY MINE SHOULDVE BEEN COVERED BY MEDICAL
I have a heart valve issue and heart failure (for which I've had to have my chest cracked open twice, my heart sliced open, and infection scraped out.
I had to have my teeth pulled before the REST of my teeth caused further decay to my heart.
This is literally life and death. In fact I died - fully coded - had CPR bc my heart stopped - THREE TIMES!!!
So if ANYONE qualified for Medical Coverage, it would've been me.
I even had to have it done IN THE HOSPITAL!!! Not in the docs office like 99% of dentists do.
That being said, I ALSO suffered from Anorexia a few years ago. So you would think that my EXCELLENT MEDICAL INSURANCE via my Husbands EXCELLENT job would have opted to pay AT LEAST the $4100 to have my teeth pulled rather than pay another $170,000 for another open heart surgery. 🤷🏼‍♀️🙄
And I'm not even counting the $6500 for the "implants" (which aren't even implants at all but magnetic rods that will line up to regular dentures... and glue can do that much for you)
But they don't do that anymore. They do NOT care how medically necessary it is to have your teeth pulled. Your medical ins will NOT pay.
      At all.
HOW MUCH I HAD TO PAY
So, I had to pay $4100 (used our tax return) to have my teeth pulled in February this year.
I also had to buy an $1100 set of temporary dentures.
(I did have my dental ins pay $1,000 of the dentures tho)
WHY I REGRET IT AND WHY I MAY NEVER BE HAPPY
Now, these don't bite or tear or stay in place . They aren't sharp. They aren't attractive. They're cheap and flimsy and floppy... they're tiny and don't look like MY teeth at all!
(Big teeth can make a girl attractive and I had PERFECT big teeth before my life of lemon juice, partying - opening beer bottles with my teeth, all juice and fruit diet, anorexia, vomiting, tongue ring, and WHITE STRIPS to BLEACH my pretty teeth.
I CAN'T eat most foods and I end up swallowing nearly everything whole.
They don't fit right (in the way that "adjustments" wont help and whereas I used to be "pretty", now my mouth caves in around these temporary dentures. I was 38 when I had it done this yr and I now look 45).
TIME RUSH, BUT NO WAY TO PAY
So I'm going to HAVE to get implants within the next 2 months !!!
      ($8k -ish)
Or else my gums and jaw will begin to atrophy and shrink and I will NEVER be attractive again.
(Bone density loss begins 6-8 months after you pull the teeth)
      IT FEELS LIKE A MISTAKE
*even though it was necessary to prevent further heart issues
I regret it. Bc at least when i had my real teeth, if I smiled (lips closed) I still looked "pretty".
People don't even recognize me now.
I don't look right at all. As if I've aged 20 yrs. I look "skanky" now with a sunken in mouth and face. And that's WITH the temporary dentures glued in place.
*sorry, TLDR, medical insurance WILL NOT PAY FOR DENTAL STUFF ANYMORE (even if you have it done in the hospital, even when its life or death necessary, trust me I fought tooth and nail! 😄🤦🏼‍♀️😏)
AND YES, MEDICAL INSURANCE USED TO PAY FOR DENTAL, in fact, my wisdom teeth were removed 16 yrs prior IN THE DENTISTS OFFUCE and it was paid by my medical insurance.

weight watchers with tracy I have mine scheduled the end of August. I am preparing for them to have some pain. They pull teeth and drill holes into your jaw and the flesh. You will feel some pain. However, talked with 6 different dentists, and 4 people who've had them done, and they said the pain was manageable with Advil, and that toothaches are worse.
