I know what Jim feels when it comes to rocks, they have mesmerized me as long as I can remember. I never tire looking at rocks, in fact I don't know what it's like to look up when I'm walking 😁

I grew up in Barstow and have always loved collecting rocks, nothing more. I remember going to the gift shop at Diamond Pacific all the time as a kid. I drove past there last weekend to check it out, but it said something about the gift shop being closed permanently. I never knew they had a rock yard open to the public. One time in kindergarten, we had a field trip there and we each got to take back some cool specimens they had thrown in the desert that we had to look around for. I move back to the Hi-D in December and I hope I can get some cool rocks and petrified wood when I go back.
I’ve been slowly watching more videos about rocks and minerals and have heard many people mention Diamond Pacific in their videos, but didn’t know they meant this company in Barstow. I never would see people in their parking lot, so I just knew they would go out of business one day, but they seem to be quite popular with all the equipment they sell. So cool to see that they’re still going strong.

OMG!!!! I can't believe you said that about howlite!! I have said that for quite some time! I don't think it needs any dye and it shouldn't be used to make fake turquoise because howlite is great on it's own. I'm trying to make it popular in it's white form because it's just gorgeous! it's so nice to hear someone else say the same thing!

Used to drive by here all the time. I never know the Mojave desert had so many different rocks. I only ever found a bunch of cinder and basalt lol. Oh there are some cool fossil locations out there. Found a bunch of oolites.

Who would have thought that such an interesting and informative video could be made looking through barrels of rocks? Yeah, I'd walk in with a fist full of cash for sure. I do enjoy the irony of you visiting Diamond Pacific and advertising Cutting Edge. I think that first piece of Montana agate you picked up (and I think wound up getting) looks like either an agatized piece of pet wood or a limb cast, I think I saw wood graining under the skin.

I think the purple stuff just before the end is probably amethyst lace agate. I have a few pieces from old stock that (to the best of my knowledge) originated from the Pacific Northwest or California that look extremely similar.
Some of the other fancy agates of uncertain vintage are probably crazy lace or Mexican lace agates, the older ones I've seen are a lot brighter, having more varied colors and intricate patterns than anything found in recent decades.
