    Ngwenya's try never gets old. Great set up and then in and out and dusted the supposed fastest man in rugby at the time. Always a good one

    • @Martin-pb7ts
      @Martin-pb7ts 4 года назад

      No one claimed at the time that Habana was the "supposed fastest man in rugby", but he was the best at the time. There's a difference. :-)

      @@Martin-pb7ts he literally partook in a publicity stunt where he raced a cheetah. he was without doubt considered the fastest man in rugby

    • @brentmeistergeneral6074
      @brentmeistergeneral6074 3 года назад +1

      @@marliechiller it’s difficult to assess wingers true speeds when they score against each other. It’s all about getting to full speed first and how to move your opponent to suit you...
      Ngwenya put some steps in to get Habana to check his run whilst Ngwenya got to full speed, sooner. So by the time habana hit full tilt Ngwenya was passed him and near the line.
      Ngwenya’s fastest recorded time for the 100m was 10.5 seconds, Habanas was 10.4. Habana was quicker but Ngwenya stood him up just enough to get passed. If this was further from the line Habana might have caught him as he has both arms to pump whereas Ngwenya had the ball.
      Unbelievably great try though!!!! 👍

    That John Kirwan try against Italy at the first world cup was one of the great individual tries because it required more than sheer pace. He tore up the entire team he would one day coach.

    • @Martin-pb7ts
      @Martin-pb7ts 4 года назад

      I live in NZ and I have to say I think it is quite funny how much of a fuss they make about that try. I mean seriously, Italy in 1987? They are hardly a minnow country now, in 1987 I wonder if they even had a rugby team or if they just got some guys who couldn't make the soccer team. It's no different to the Springboks celebrating a try against Napier Boys High 1st XV for 30 years. Yes he beat the whole team but it was an impressively weak team who copped 70 points, giving up 12 tries, against New Zealand and lost to Fiji and Argentina.

      Rules of the game 1) As per the description, tries can only be from Rugby World Cups. Happy to see a list of tries that meet that rule that you think should also be included?

    The Try from 'the End of the World' didn't make this list OR France's Serge Blanco try in the '87RWC vs Australia to take them through to the Final? Talking of France how about the Try at Twickenham they started behind their own posts by Serge Blanco finished under England's sticks by Phillipe Saint-Andre? And how can a list like this not have the 73 Baabaas Try vs the All Blacks in Cardiff Arms Park scored by Gareth Edwards? Cmon now @WorldRugby

    God I miss watching running rugby. The game has become so defensive and dull the past few years. Nobody takes risks any longer and it's just a case of teams kicking it and waiting for the opposition to make a mistake. Rugby peaked late 90s early 00s for entertainment.

    Was expecting one of Habana's breakout tries against Aus, (there's a video called Habana's Breakout try), also Sean O Brian's try for the Lions v All Blacks, 1st test. & Francois Hougaard v All Blacks (think it was try of the year, 2014?)... There's quite few of them (Gareth Edwards, Baa Bars v AB's as special mention), or is this list not really a definitive one, just 19 random but good breakout tries.

      This is labelled as '19 of the most electric end-to-end tries from the Rugby World Cup' With that restriction in mind, what Springbok tries should be included? Genuine question. would be interested to see them.

      Spare a thought for Tony Underwood, as well. He spent the week before that game spouting about how he was going to show Jonah Lomu how to be a wing. My private thought was that Mister Underwood was going to find that difficult when lying flat on his face, watching Lomu run away from him.
      Which was exactly what happened.
