Totally agree about the crowds at the weekend. The impact on the arts is devastating. Its also a kick in the teeth as I am 20wk pregnant and my husband can't come to the scans to see his unborn child, but could go for a pint with 5 of his mates and (as Ollie says) 'social distance' after a few drinks 😡
I’m a beauty therapist, we (way before Covid) have an extremely high hygiene level, and we’re not allowed to open. We will have to wear full PPE (Mask, face shield, gloves and apron) changed regularly and wiping down with bleach/chlorine solution after every client,we’re still not allowed to open and yet people can squish shoulder to shoulder in Soho drunk hugging each other 😣 It’s a massive kick in the teeth and makes me so mad, it’s all to do with money completely disregarding health and safety 😣
It’s a massive kick in the teeth, I own and run a beauty salon.... I cannot open yet even though my job has a level of sanitation we have to follow to begin with PLUS we are able to apply additional PPE (which is all ready to go) I feel whole heartedly for you guys too it’s not fair on anyone still stuck in an uncertain lockdown fixture especially when we are seeing scenes like London Soho and also Locally in a Liverpool the other weekend after the premiership. I have had to come up with another business angle to keep my business and my head above water during lockdown by making and selling wax melts and home fragrances but I’m still so restricted as launching a new business venture during this time has been difficult. I’ve had people being really defensive over me fuming over pubs reopening but it just seems to be that people don’t realise how many people’s livelihoods rely on these businesses that are still shut and seeing a pub which is technically none essential reopening and people generally taking the piss xxx
We've had a barmaid near me test positive for covid, she served drinks all saturday night, the pub for some reason did cash only and they took no names ect so no way to track and trace! 😩
As counterintuitive as it feels, a temporary ban on outdoor drinking seems like the smartest move. Counterintuitive because being outside is safer than inside in terms of airflow, but with this drinking culture there's no way to cap capacities if the bars are allowed to sell to people who then immediately leave the building and mill about in the hundreds. In the US there are opposite rules in some cities where only outdoor bars are allowed to be open, but because we have stricter public drinking rules it's easier to cap people because they still have to be within certain areas to be drinking alcohol.
OMG, yes! It's SO frustrating that 1. we can't count on our leaders to deal properly with the situation, and that 2. we can't count on people being thoughtful and using common sense (I mean, just because pubs and some other non-essential businesses are "allowed" to open doesn't mean we should all behave as if everything was suddenly OK again!!). (P.S. I'm not from the UK but it's the same - maybe even worse, sadly - where I live. P.P.S. Bright side: glad to know there are other people still taking social distancing seriously - I feel less alone in my efforts/frustration! haha)
The crowding bars and clubs is what happened in America when states starting letting up on restrictions and caused spikes in the numbers of cases. Fingers crossed it doesn't spike in the UK.
My brother is the music coordinater for the performing arts industry where i live and he isn't going back to work until 2021 and then i see people just taking this whole situation for granted and like a free holiday. I work in a pharmacy and it's mental just now with people just thinking it doesn't matter if they are putting us at risk because its our job instead of us working because we have to put ourselves at risk because we are essential workers.
Seeing the stuff about Soho is ridiculous to me. Here in Ireland nearly all business have reopened but with lots of rules. For pubs and restaurants you have to be pre-book a table and if you're going to a pub you have to order food as well. Also you're only allowed stay for 1 hour and 45 minutes. At least over here there's a limit
The government have handled this so badly!! my friend was being interviewed in the early evening on Saturday on Sky news as he is the ex superintendent of the Met police and it was already packed and the police were there but did nothing to implement social distances, he was speaking about the street party in Brixton being broken up by police in riot gear yet the police on the street doing nothing ...it is one rule for one and another rule for another...they could open theatres but they don't seem to care.. i am not going to the pub anytime soon after being shielded due to my health since Feb 25th , besides that i can't stand for hours on end due to the same health issues , I really hope they find a way of opening theatres and music venues asap xxx
I could fully rant about the lifting of restrictions. Why can people act like those videos but mums cannot have partners in for antenatal appointments? And like you said that is a massive kick in the teeth for the theatre people when people are being idiots in soho. Our government are cherry picking for the economy. It's good they gave the money to the arts but I think it only came as people kicked up a massive fuss on social media. This was a really interesting insight into being an actor/actress!
First time our friends came round to meet our new cat she did that rear up double paw punch. Unfortunately she was on my friends knee and punched him right in the tender parts! >.
I saw this and was SO angry and sad about this, i live in Argentina and things are so shit here that their is no way of comparing BUT i do agree that some government decisions are so stupid... I personally believe that i much rather have theaters open that pubs. Do people realize that you can get drunk at home via zoom with your friends? It's not the same but I've been having dinners and tea and stuff with my friends. We even saw an Instagram live party MADE FOR EVERYONE TO DANCE AT HOME as if they were at the club and it was amazing. I wish pubs close and theaters open honestly. Love you both so much! Everything will be better Xoxo
I was gutted to see that footage of soho. You are right. What a slap in the face. Fast food and alcohol has taken Priority over health, wellbeing and culture. Social distancing would be manageable in. Theatre. Have a single seat free between each party.
How do you feel about this morning the Government finally helping out theatres giving a grant for them to help them through the next few months? Personally I feel it is too little too late. I had never put two and two together of the mass gathering being outside your work place. I would be pretty peeved off too and especially if I had lost my Employment over social distancing!🤯😤🤬
@@millypep Lol No I doubt anyone would say No to any help financially or otherwise 🤗 I realise alot of areas are suffering economically as well as physically at the moment, I am just annoyed for others that have lost their livelihood in the meantime.👌🌈
It's an insult that so many people are bored of social distancing and are just saying fuck you to those of us who are still worried/at risk. I have locked down further if anything (I'm pregnant) because if someone isn't wearing their mask properly near me in the supermarket and they were at the pub not socially distancing, they've put me and my baby at risk. I'm so angry that we have such a selfish society. Yes the government is to blame but we all have brains. We all have access to knowledge, it's not good enough
I don't understand why they think opening pubs is a good idea. I really don't get it. I think we're going to have a spike. I don't want us to, but I think it's going to spike in a few weeks and we'll end up with a second wave because people will bend the rules and disobey social distancing. And if they can open pubs and things like hairdressers, why can't they open nightclubs and theatres and tattoo studios and piercing studios and nail salons. More precautions can be put in place for theatres and nail salons than pubs. I don't want to go to pubs yet. Like I'm still scared and don't want to go. I will see how it goes for the next few weeks but if there is even a whiff of a second wave or the R rating rising, then nope.
I never understood the whole "We need a beer!" mentality. Did I miss something or hasn't alcohol been available this whole time? You don't NEED a beer, you WANT a beer which is entirely different. Nobody needs a beer at all! Then to do that just out on the street right near theatres when that's the entire reason they can't open in the first place!?
Totally agree about the crowds at the weekend. The impact on the arts is devastating.

Our cat does exactly the same thing to my mum as Edgar does to Oli! She also jumps down from the headboard!

I’m a beauty therapist and 100% understand this ❤️
instablaster...
Oli would be SUCH a good Corny Collins though! I can totally see him in that role!
That’s cats for you, they all do it, you will get use to it 🤣
Love starting my day with these videos especially now that it’s the summer holidays! 🥰💕❤️

Just think of that first performance you do, it will be well worth the wait ❤️
Its a good job there wasn't a stage there and people singing for them because damn that would make it from safe to do dangerous 🙄🙄🙄

My local pub fight inside now even on sun web side that bad
Would have actually watched this in the morning if my teachers didn't start zoom calls at 8 30
So agree with you about soho. There are some very ignorant and selfish. I love both your blog's. Thankyou so much.

does anyone know why Book of Mormon always has Standby Cunningham’s but no Standby Price’s??
I’d imagine because Cunningham has a specific look whereas other Mormons/swings can be price.
Rhiannon Hiscock that makes sense! :)
